It's genuinely so sad that Roger missed out on seeing Joyboy. He was both too late and too early and had no chance for either but that was his wish.

Not gonna lie this kinda felt like the last episode of One Piece... And the song memories was used very well in this scene... I almost cried watching this scene for the first time.

Oden said "ill be happy if people talk about me over a drink". In this scene Roger says "its such a funny story." The One Piece has to be a poneglyph that Joyboy wrote about his story so people can talk about it when they arrive at the island. This is probably why Roger and the crew laughed as well because Joyboys story parallels theirs and Joyboy lived in a world that was free and endless. In this sense the One Piece is something physical, its a poneglyph but its a sacred treasure because its the only transcription of Joyboys adventure. Like Luffys hat, he probably left an item there that has sentimental value next to the poneglyph. This would be similar to Whitebeards and Aces grave where whiteboards staff and aces hat are their items. This is just my assumption from the details we've been given so far. Excited to hear what message joyboy left. Also hope this isn't a spoiler haha
I think that may be part of it for sure but most likely not the whole thing. Oda has stated that it wont be something sentimental but something practical that has a literal purpose. Maybe the Poneglyph doubles as a story/cipher with instructions or code for how to use the ancient weapons and their purpose?
@Nerfular I think its way more serious than that and I dont think one piece will end by reaching the one piece, remember rayliegh said to luffy maybe you will have a different answer to us, and roger knowing he will die couldnt complete the journey so he trusted the next generation to complete it
we know there's poneglyphs on laugh tale, because roger's crew learned the secrets of the world there.
the question is, what is one piece itself? is it just the poneglyphs? because oda confirmed its a physical treasure and not just "the adventures we had", so is there gold on the island?
my bet's on there being at least one ancient weapon there.

I started watching OP in 2002 when it was aired on Greek Tv. Now I’m 29. Getting married in a week. We waited so long for this moment. I’m just jealous my kids are going to be able to watch it in one go, and I will be there watching with them.

Wrong, no need to make stuff up. Katsumi Tokoro the director behind this episode chose it because he was the assistant director on Memories back in the day.
It’s such a great song. I broke down in tears with a smile on my face. All the years of mystery about Roger and his crew, building up to us getting to see his final year venturing to find the final island. Seeing the looks on their faces when they finally got to look at the One Piece made me feel somewhat relieved and excited for our own final part of the journey. The song choice really brought back old memories too❤

I like how Oda play with the fans all the years. All the years everyone belive the name was Raftel and then Oda show us the Romaji writing and it's actually Laugh Tale, with japanese acent.
Probably Oda contributed, the translation was wrong because in Japanese the "l" and "r" are pronounced the same and are often exchanged, even the "v" and "b" (example: Bibi / Vivi), also "Marijoa" it's actually "Mary Geoise"

This episode felt like a mortality check. Made me realise that this story...this journey, that so many of us are a part off, be it since the beginning or joined along the way here, that so many of us grew up with and were along for this ride...this story is actually wrapping up and will come to an end in the near future. For sometime i didn't even think i wouldn't be able to see One Piece to the end. But now that it's closing in on us i don't want it to ever end :,)

It is so hecking genius the name of the last island, with both earlier interpretations and the new info disclosed:
1). Raftel - composed of "raft" (flat floating structure for travel over water) and "el" (semitic word for God), which could be interpreted as "God's Raft" which would symbolize the final/last island in created by "God".
2) Laugh Tale - composed of "laugh" (it connection to the will of D. as the they all die smiling) and "tale" (the journey that all leads to here), which could be interpreted that the One Piece is not really a "treasure" in the normal sense, but most likely related to the sense of freedom and adventure that is the main theme of the series.
Raftel is just something the translator assumed based on the katakana and it is wrong. Why bring God here? One of the themes of One Piece is defying and defeating God so it doesn't make sense for the last island to have anything to do with God. If anything, Laugh Tale hold the key to take down God and the island was created by the people who wanted to take down God. Remember that majority of Japanese are atheists, Shinto or Buddhists and they don't think god is the creator of the world.
This moment absolutely surprised me. Throughout the story they learned that Void Century held a secret the World Government wanted to unknown at all costs. Even killing many people to make it so.
But this moment, reaching this fabled island we heard so much about which we knew at Raftel at the time, which seeing what was there would answer what happened during the Void Century; made them laugh to tears and calling the island its actual name, Laugh Tale.
It just makes you wonder, "WHAT THE HELL IS ON THAT ISLAND?!"

the day this story ends all of us will be laughing and crying because its been a funny story. we went on this journey together not knowing how close we would get and in the end we were all witnesses to the tremendouse treasure known as one piece. @Itachi Is Invincible sure its good but the world of one piece is bigger and richer it tells the story of racism, human trafficking, tyranny, government corruption, injustice etc the list goes on and on. A story like Itachi’s has probably happened in the world of one piece 🤣 anyone thinking that Itachi’s back story makes Naruto better is laughable
