2000 years are compresed into these songs! This folklor songs are the romanian esence on this earth ! We balkan people have the richest culture on the face of this earth
Greetings from Northern California. I have been following your klezmer recordings for weeks now and have. Even sharing them with friends. We’re supposed to have a klezmer concert by a San Francisco group for the 45th anniversary of the synagogue in our retirement community of Rossmoor. But no one compares to you!! Joy Danzig
@@jiltedjohn9294I didn't write this, but clearly your Klezmer was inspired (much more theft) by Romanian folklore. BTW, even Israel's national anthem is based on a Romanian folk song. Anyway, it's good that you are so protective of something you "borrowed" from others...
Thanks! Much appreciated. As I understand the last piece in 9/8 is a Şchioapa dance form and the geampara is in 7. At any rate, its great stuff, and I'm working on more Romanian music...
Șchioapă means walking with a limp - as the rhythm suggests :) To me (as a Romanian) klezmer sounds like Romanian music but with a Middle eastern twist. It's like speaking the same language but with a different accent and story.. Well done 😁👍
Absolutely Brilliant, I have watched this performance every few weeks. Such a talent and performer, with amazing back up musicians. Right at 2:00 I start getting emotional, such emotions and humanity.
I only just discovered your channel Daniel Hoffman, I really enjoy your videos. I listen sometimes to Itzhak Perlman but I guess I have a new channel to follow as well. You play with so much emotion as well...wow.
This music is close to Jewish soul, there’s a lot of similarity with the Yiddish sounds, being that they’re mostly from Eastern Europe. Slalom to our Jewish friends
Atentie ! Succes !!!
this might be a longshot but..just wondering if there's a sheetmusic of yout performance or at least something i can memorize it with. sure i could do it by ear, but if there's something i can start with let me know. much appreciated.
@@DanielHoffmanViolinist Ahh thank you 😅 I kept listening to it and I never thought to actually look for somebody sniffing. It actually works incredibly well with the energy of the whole piece I just couldn't for the life of me figure out what the sound was. Thanks again!
Bonjour Sylvain.
I have no words to express about Hoffman's mastery of Romania's heart - Doina

Romanian folk music at it's best! Both happy and sad at the same time
Interesting! Jewish music also is both happy and sad at the same time. Great!!!
that is not Romanian folk music is Romanian music interpreted by someone, so it can't be the best Romanian folk music

By the way you may want to change the title, since "din Dobrogea" actually means "from Dobrogea"(a region in Romania at the Black Sea)
love it. the sound is absolutely Balkan though. :)
Well that's where Romania is
As balkanik as it should 😉
The music is pure ethno-Roumanian, geographically it’s Balcanic!

is he a romanian jewish or how does he know our folklore so good?
Isn't this terrific?
Why fine tuner on A string? Seen this a few times lately. Beautiful playing!!
Steel strings, probably

Corect ! Geampara = 2+2+3, Cadânească = 2+2+2+3
de acord! Asa este :-)
Nu stii cum se numeste prima melodie? Multumesc

Can somebody tell me what the noise at 6:39 is? It sounds like somebody sniffing to the beat but I can't see which instrument is making that noise.
that was indeed my nose in the break, but I think you're hearing the high hat of the drums throughout that section that makes a similar sound.
@@DanielHoffmanViolinist Ahh thank you 😅 I kept listening to it and I never thought to actually look for somebody sniffing. It actually works incredibly well with the energy of the whole piece I just couldn't for the life of me figure out what the sound was. Thanks again!
Mainly a 5/4 in the end.

What is the time signature on this?
The last tune, Din Dobrogea, is in 9/8. The subdivisions are 2+2+2+3
Daniel Hoffman thank you!
Sababa!
