The description of this video has links to some playlists I've made for Basic Soldering. I also added some links to help you find items that are similar to what I'm using in this video.

At 2:30, you did what welders call "tacking" the part in place. It's a good term and technique, and since soldering ~= brazing, which itself is welding, it makes sense to continue using it (rather than coming up with some niche jargon for the exact same process, not that you did that but someone's gonna)

I think "tacking" is the perfect term for this, especially since it's already being used (just like you mentioned.) Thanks for sharing the info!

You did such a great job explaining everything except the technique you use to snip the legs. 3rd video in a row (other people) everyone skips this. Any tips?

I don't know why I forgot to show this. Any type of wire cutter should be ok, but flush cut snips are recommended. Here is a link to the pair I have: amzn.to/3lr2WEf they work great for cutting the leads very short.

@@HowDoYouDIY Could you comment on the technique if there is any? Is there such a thing as too short? Thx

What I do is after soldering the legs, I snip them as close so the solder as my cutters will cut.
Parts that come with short legs, like ICs, don't need to be snipped.

how do you know what part goes where on the board though? i'm assuming they are not interchangeable in their locations.
