@@pd4104lang Oh wow! I have to try to catch them then! Incredible musicians and this song goes hard!! Thanks for the info and hanging out for a bit! Have a great one! 🤘🏻
I've seen this band live when they were touring with The Rolling Stones as the opening act. They were AMAZING. What you see in the video is exactly the stage presence they had when I saw them. They blew everybody in that stadium away.
@@carllouisyoung I did not know that! How cool! Well, Mick has good taste in music because they were the perfect opening band to get the crowd hyped up for the Stones to perform.
@@setonhillstudios The stones had 2 giant inflatable women on either side of the stage when they Played 'honky tonk woman' and Mick stood at the top of the stadium dressed all in red for 'sympathy for the devil'...it was epic.
There's an amazing performance of this song they did on Howard Stern in 2016 - they sound just as good as ever, in fact maybe even better. Corey's voice is as strong as ever, and Vernon still shreds like a badass mfer 🤘
There have been many Cults of Personality not just in politics but every profession and social Media has hyper-magnified it to the extreme! It allows instant access to the Masses side note Living Color is on tour in the US right now.
The speech at the beginning was by Malcolm X, a famous Black rights activist in the 1960's, who was murdered at a speech in NYC. Vernon Reid is an incredible Guitarist. Saw Living Colour open up for The Rolling Stones on their "Steel Wheels" tour in 1989 in Philadelphia, Pa.. About six months later I met Lead Singer Corey Glover in Florida, and I told him I thought LC was much better than The Stones on the night I saw them, but he wouldn't hear it, a true gentleman. Corey was also in the movie "Platoon", about the Viet Nam War.
For as amazing as Corey Glover and Vernon Reid are, it's the rhythm section that makes this band special in my ear. Will Calhoun and Muzz Skillings are locked in. They don't overdo anything (that's Vernon's job), but every LC song has a rock-solid foundation. "Type" is my favorite from them.
Your analysis is spot on! Also, the production is so good and the rhythm guitar sound is really heavy! First time I heard this on the radio in the 90's I thought "What the heck, are they playing metal on pop radio now?!" 😀
I heard this watching wrassling as CM Punk's theme song. I agree, its hard to pay attention to the lyrics cause the beat has you in a choke hold. As I got older & listened, I'm like WOW 😮. This song is definitely ahead of its time but so real and raw and should be a cautionary tale for today. Love you reaction & realization of how deep this is.

Glamour Boys' song is pretty good. Their guitarist Vernon Reed is killer. Very underated. At the end of the song, that is, Frankin D. Roosevelt saying : The only thing we have to fear is fear itself. He was giving a speech during the Great Depression for america to keep its head up and not to give up.
You have to check out their version of 'American Skin (41 Shots)'. The song was written by Bruce Springsteen. Read up about why it was written and then watch Living Colour's performance. Incredibly powerful.
I am one of the people who suggested this. Thank you for getting to it so quickly. I had said it was the anecdote for Wild Cherry (because they sound like a Black band and Living Colour is 4 Black guys that sound like Black Sabbath). Their entire first album is excellent. It’s called Vivid. It came out in 1988, which is the year I opened my retail music store (Music Matters). There were, IMO, 5 groundbreaking albums that year that changed the direction of music a little and all still sound fabulous today. This was one. I am happy you like this song. Thank you again for getting to this and so quickly! Brought me a big ol smile when I saw it come up.
I laughed seeing you count this off. The sax led band I worked with for 5 years occasionally got snarly. I used to tell them “you guys have it easy, you spend the whole night counting to four, then at the end of the night divide by five.” 😂 I saw these guys 3 times. First time as opening act for the Stones in zbelooit, WS where SRV’s chopper went down. Next 2 were headlining at Kalamazoo State Theatre. One of my faborie lyrics by anyone in this song You gave me fortune You gave me fame You gave me power In YOUR God’s name

Pretty awesome tune, huh? They kill with the music and their singer uses his major talents to lay down some heavy truths. This song has it all. Great reaction! Subbed.
Not all their song are this banging musically but they all have a very deep meaning that makes you think and open your eyes. Personally I think they didn't do quite as well as they should have is because most people couldn't grasp how deep and meaningful their lyrics are. great band i have their first few CD's then they seemed to disappear. Now thanks to great reactors like yourself and others their music seems to be making a bit of a come back. A song by them you should check out is the live version of their cover of 40 shots it willl bring tears to your eyes . Another band you may want to check out is Savatage they eventually turned into Trans Siberian Orchestra.
Oh my dude, this is one of my absolute favourite 80s tunes, what a great choice to fire up my Friday morning. Great reaction as always - much love from Canada!
There was only really one small bit of misrepresentative propaganda in the whole video, it was their use of JFK saying at his very famous speech ask not what your country can do for you but what you can do for your country, along with showing Vietnam soldiers. In actuality Kennedy was pulling soldiers out of Vietnam after his military advisors lied to him and he found out that American peacekeeping soldiers had already been killed in Vietnam in an engagement that they weren't supposed to be involved in. What he was referring to in that quote was about volunteering at home for things like the Peace Corps and different charitable organizations that help Americans in need. Kennedy was all about peace. His negotiating skills kept us out of a nuclear conflict with the Soviet Union and was in the process of ending Vietnam before it escalated. Immediately after he was assassinated his successor LBJ sent thousands of troops into Vietnam and it began in earnest. It was all the things that not only Kennedy but his predecessor Eisenhower warned us about. And here we are now in the situation we're in because of it.
One of the hardest songs I ever tried to play Steven. There is some real tricky off beat stuff in here. As an older guy. It was so refreshing to see these guys burst on the metal scent in the late 80's when music was mostly image conscious in which they called hair metal. These guys put a wedge in it and they were beloved. ruclips.net/video/65Z-0bt7IA8/видео.html Came out in 1988
You pretty much captured what the song is about. What's wild is that the song came out in the late 80s and its still relevant in 2024. Definitely ahead of its time. Not sure if you have checked either band on your channel yet, but Rage Against the Machine and System of A Down recorded very political songs in the 90's and 2000s that are still relatable. Im not a political person by any means, but if you check their songs, especially their lyrics out, i think that you'd be both amazed and impressed.

The absolute best thing you can do for understanding of what they're talking about, is to look up the term "Cult of Personality". Living Color didn't invent the term, and they are very definitely using it in the usual manner. The various comments made along the way "am I understanding this?", etc indicate you're not wrong. Or at least, you're close enough.
Nothing has really changed. We still follow the cult of personality - by holding up celebs, leaders, politicians, religious leaders .... we hold them as gods. Unholy and absolutely wrong.
I've heard this is one of the most difficult solos to play in history. The man has undeniable talent. I am not a fan of watching him play though. His playing style just doesn't do it for me.
