PROF: RYSZARD LEGUTKO: "Two minutes of truth, of bitter truth" in the European Parliament

- During ceremony of the 70th anniversary of the European Parliament, the European Conservatives and Reformists made cutting criticisms. Speaking on behalf of the Group, Chairman Professor Ryszard Legutko pointed out that in the strict sense it is only a quasi-parliament, alienating millions of voters.
"Madam President, Prime Ministers. Two minutes of truth, of bitter truth. And the bitter truth is that the European Parliament has done a lot of damage in Europe. It has been sending a false message it represents the European demos. There isn’t, and there won’t be any European demos. The Parliament infected Europe with shameless partisanship and the infection became so contagious that it spread to other institutions such as the European Commission.
The Parliament has abandoned the basic function of representing people. Instead, it has become a machine to implement the so-called European project, thus alienating millions of voters. The Parliament has become a political vehicle of the left to impose their monopoly with their fierce intolerance towards any dissenting view. No matter how many times you repeat the word ‘diversity’. Diversity is becoming an extinct species in the European Union and particularly in this chamber.
The Parliament is a quasi-parliament because it rejects the essential principle of parliamentarism, namely accountability. The deputy - let me remind you - is elected by the voters and must be accountable to the voters that elected him. Not so in the European Union. The idea that, say, Spanish, German, French, et cetera, deputies accountable to their own national electorates can dictate something to, shall we say, Hungarian society or any other society to which they cannot be held accountable and which cannot take them to task is simply preposterous.
Call it what you will. But democracy, it is not. To sum up, the Parliament represents the demos that does not exist, works for the project that ignores reality and law, shuns accountability, turns its back on millions of people and serves the interest of one political orientation. And this is just the tip of the iceberg. Having said that, ladies and gentlemen, I rest my case."

Most of the EU are under the influence of the US , particularly Germany and other NATO countries. This man is perfectly right in his assessment and if the EU wants to survive, it better changes course.
The EU is an economic union meant to enhance and stimulate the economic activity of it's member states, not to destroy them for misguided ideological goals.
It has no right to infringe on the internal judicial nor on the foreign policies of it's member states and surely doesn't have the right nor the authority to intervene in the military decisions of these states.
The EU trade and economic policies are 17th century. They were discredited several times over between 1700 and 1900. They are a slow motion disaster.
The Treaty of Rome requires " ever closer political union." It was intended to prevent further conflict, but has been abused ever since Jacques Delors interpreted it as a plan to create a European Super State.

The tyranny began when the EEC, which most here in the UK supported, became the EU. Treaties of Maastricht and etc.

I agree with your sentiment, but listen to his words. He is describing the reality, which is that the institutions are a law unto themselves, and thus will never change.
The very existence of the EU has suckered the people of Europe into believing they have an infinite right to lead a peaceful existence. Our brothers in the East, the true defenders of Christendom and hence democracy in Europe, really believe that their freedom depends on membership of the EU.
Joining the EU means giving up the right to national sovereignty which is so obvious.

Some form of democracy has been around for more than 2500 years and has not yet reached the stage of true democracy anywhere. Christianity, barely 2000 years old, did not achieve political acceptance until it became the official religion of the Roman Empire in the 4th century AD and has only given up some measure of dictatorial power in the last 100 years.
They are so self-righteous and believe they couldn't be wrong. None of them have the humility to examine their own views and admit when they are wrong about anything and more importantly change their minds and chart a different course.

Yet Poland has been a net beneficiary every single year since joining the EU in 2004, and never a contributor. However, I have huge admiration and respect for Poland in keeping your culture and native population safe and clean from foreign, non-European invaders.
