What also I appreciate is all of you starting to see the common threads of supposedly different methods. It was that realization which lead me to understanding what elements worked.
Thank you so much for your insight. I shot 82 yesterday from the regular tees at age 78 with 2 doubles. I am starting to get it and this video and maybe the next is icing on the cake.
Your insights are fantastic! The way I have come to understand the swing(through 10 years of serious effort) is that the wrists release the club and your body levers release the wrists. Your body does NOT release the club. Each individual will have more and less use of wrists as well as body. Your swing for example is more wrist than body which is fine. It's all individual. We all have the same levers and are strong and weak in different ways.
Trebuchet is a lever . There is a fulcrum(axle) and counterweight on opposite side of the fulcrum. A golf club , also a lever, has fulcrum between the two hands. We provide with our left hand, counter weight on opposite side of fulcrum to the clubhead. When we use lag, our wrists are free hinges and power transmitted from proximal to distal. IMO, C Motion is the same except the right hand is used to make the wrists a power hinge, using muscles of the forearm(finger muscles). IMO, more power may be transmitted with C Motion but requires more timing and iresult ill therefore be more inconsistent than true lag with wrists as free hinges.
Hi Michael. I'm going over many of your videos. Did you do a Part 3 to this one? I love your KISS principle. I've often said of myself that I'm my own worse enemy on the golf course and could use a big dose of KISS. Thanks for what you do.
Your getting close, but you left out a few goodies. Since the trebuchet has a fixed base, it does not transfer weight when slinging. If you stand on one foot and swing a club, you will quickly understand you are cherry picking the physics and neglecting the kinesiology and biomechanics needed for a better understanding of the golf swing. The hip/compound pivot requires an anterior rotation of the body which involves the release of your left side. This pendulum action of the COM is absolutely necessary for real power. Fully loading to your right side/glute (left shoulder past the ball) will get about 75% of your weight over your right femur. Once you accomplish this, your shoulder turn will improve greatly. Right now, you are less than 90 degrees because of inadequate weight shift and improper use of the erector spinae muscle/right sliding shoulder joint. When your weight is supported by your right femur, the torque is extended down the right leg (eliminating lower back issues) which will enable you to make a greater than 90 degree shoulder turn "IF" you use the ES in combination with positioning the right humerus bone in a throwing position. This equates to an approximate 20% increase in turn for added power. A complete loading of the right side also creates the reflexive "Shift left" action necessary to enable a "Step and throw" on the downswing. I'm a huge MA fan and I think you are too :) No offense.
None taken. You almost got it right. Your statement about a trebuchet not transferring weight is incorrect but teasing aside I totally agree with your statements about going to the right side for power then left. I love Mike Austin. Thank you for the great observations and comment.
Hey Michael, your videos keep getting better and better, unless i missed it, but can you explain why it’s called Cmotion. I heard Lee mention it in one video, but I really didn’t follow what he was saying.
maeu59 c's everywhere in the swing. Comeaux motion. Hands, hips, T1 vertebrae , sternum. How do they move? Like the shape of a C, Spirals, and 45's. It's just a motion!
That is very interesting. How much must the counterweight weigh in order to fire a golf ball 300 yards? In other words, how much power do you need in an efficient flail?
You are smarter than me. I don’t see the relationships in the trebuchet device dang it. Counterweight and stall? Stall and the energy transfer. I am trying to turn that light bulb on, start understanding the swing.
I know this is a late comment and I hope you see it. How do you get your left arm to do what it's doing after impact? I'm confused because I thought that after impact the left arm stay enlongated or stretched. Looks like the clubhead past your hands before or at the time you have made contact with the ball. Was my perception of impact way off? I feel like something in the swing is holding me back from getting to where you're at impact. Can you help me to understand this phenomenon? This is probably why I'm not getting the distances that I could be capable of if I had the right perception. Thanks, I hope you receive this and can send me a response. Charles
Pendulum: Specifically, the force equals the mass times gravity times the sine of that angle - (F = mg sinθ). ... This is the force pushing the pendulum bob, measured in newtons. Above is definition of Force pushing the pendulum bob. The golf swing is not a pendulum. This is the measurement of Centripedal Force. Please stop misinforming that golf swing is a pendulum. It is not. Centripetal force is the force on an object on a circular path that keeps the object moving on the path. ... Centripetal force is measured in Newtons and is calculated as the mass (in kg), multiplied by tangential velocity (in meters per second) squared, divided by the radius (in meters)
If you could put aside the ego and the know it all attitude, actually do the things that Michael is suggesting in this clip and others; you'd come to the realization that you just stumbled on to pure golf instruction genius. The ball goes so far, effortlessly with a flight that resembles a laser beam. Oh and it's easy to do again and again and again.
@@@jayscott1380 , FYI I am a big fan of Lee Commeaux. Have been since SITD. It is the explanation that golf swing is a pendulum that I take exception to. Fill in the blanks. We know mass of the clubhead(blob of pendulum) is 200 grams give or take. We know the force a golfer like Lee puts on the ball. How long would a pendulum have to be for blob to produce that amount of force? (F = mg sinθ). What Lee does IMO is create Angular Momentum(lag) and in kinematic chain, the great mass (much more mass than most others) of his arms(proximal) decelerates faster than most everyone else to create greater acceleration of the distal, golf club(lever)
@@dtgpsCool Lee is a genius. Based on what you are telling me, and no offense meant, just giving you my opinion, for whatever that is worth (probably not much). The swing technically being this or that is too complicated for 99.9% of golfers, you might be part of the .1% where labeling the swing a pendulum versus angular momentum means something. But to most people that doesn't mean anything. It's just using the body to move little white ball from point a to point b. If an example is used that helps someone understand how to feel how to move more efficiently to move that ball, then that is more meaningful than being technically correct, to most.
if your trying to show off with your physics jargon then you didn’t get the man’s point; the point is there’s a simplicity in the swing that needs to be felt properly.
@@reillylie-nielsen3844 In 1/4 second it takes for the DS, it is IMPOSSIBLE to know where our hands are in space, in real time. Nerves in hands send signals to the brain, that controls muscles. It all takes more time than is available. 90% of golf instruction is guiding golfers to consciously control golf swing when during the DS it is not humanly possible. It has to be a preprogram in the subconscious. Do your own research then you will know; rather than believing what someone said or wrote in a book.
Thanks much. Every video you make adds to my golf IQ and helps move my game forward. I always look forward to your next video.

Thanks Michael, you are a great ! teacher in golf !
Forever grateful for your teachings!count yogi radio interview at 8min i believe is very important to making swing automatic!

Michael, would you be so kind as to comment on Freddie Couples swing? Thank you!
TheCharliehudson count yogi.
Ahaaa!
TheCharliehudson Freddie read the book 5 steps......when he was a young teen.
Interesting. I used to play with a very good golfer( he played at Florida State) who began to use Count Yogi’s mat and book. I’ll revisit.
Mike I am being a bit thick but where is Part1 please?
Gordon T. That's thick Gordon. Last video that says part 1. Be well my friend.
LOL.
Gordon T. Sorry Gordon couldn't help teasing you. Awareness! Hahaha.

At impact..where is your sternum actually facing?..at ball??...in front of ball??..thank you
It depends. Irons at divot entry. Woods on top. Driver just behind as we look down.
