Good Job Mike! Little heads up for next time. That code means that the compressor overheated and tripped on thermal overload 3 times for low stage, 82 for high stage.
Caps have internal contacts arranged to break upon distention of case (doming) due to internal pressure. Opening of the internal contacts protects against case rupture (thermal events) and damage to loads from capacitance value changes.

It make them run hotter and that must impact their efficiency and life ? And that impacts you making return calls . Yes you make more money but the customer must be made aware of these situations so as they don't put the blame on you .
3 ACs and a mini-split all packed in there like a bunch of Mexicans in a Coyote transport van. Any more? Is the black unit on the far end a heat pump for the pool?
How much did that cost you? I just had the same error code 81 and 82 . The tech changed out the dual voltage stabilizer $600. Does that sound about right?
I had exactly the same issue with my 4 yr old 25HNB6 heat pump. In my case the 7.5 uF capacitor section (which connects to fan motor) measured OK. The 30 uF Compressor cap section measured at about 7uf. When the cap gets to low, compressor can’t start…it draws current until it trips the internal thermal protector. Control board will retry every 15 minutes. After three start failures it throws the 82 or 81 code (depending on it it was a high stage or low stage start attempt) and locks out for 4 hours. Explained on page 52 of Catalog No. 24-25-6SM “Application Guideline and Service Manual”. I’m an electrical engineer and had to figure it out when my local dealer could not. Carrier told him to replace thermal sensors, but my measurements showed sensors to be fine. My own queries through Carrier web site went unanswered. Worthless “support”. Thanks to the web site operators who place the manuals online.
Good morning Mikey! Thanks for breakfast. Any suggestion on cap brands which are more robust and less prone to failure? Do the USA made caps from vendors like AmRad or MARS seem to last longer?

hello Micky Pipes I live in Mobile home and we have all electric no gas so we having a problem with central air it seems its working outside system but we not getting no blowing in the vents in the home and the Furnace making strange noise so I was wondering if that could be Capacitor in the Furnace too ?? sorry for my writing
If you get no inside fan at vents you need to check the inside blower first. Is it blower locked up? Is the blower fan still attached to shaft? Is the inside blower capacitor good? I would start at that basic investigation.
@@01Hokiefan when I turn on the furnace on heat I hear the fan but when I turn on AC It makes strange sound with no fan so I think it is the fan in the furnace
There is a reason that cap failed. Most of the time its heat from a dirty condenser coil and the amps of the compressor are driven up. Also voltage drops from the neighborhood all using AC could have caused higher amps and also burnt out that cap. But its a first gen Infinity system.. not today's DC powered ones.
