I don't own or even know a thing about tractors, but I find this fascinating. In fact, I'm a semi retired finance professional living in NYC. It's interesting how old machinery operated. Simple but solid.

I am in awe of your knowledge and skills. My 81 y/o husband is going to help me rebuild our 1948 Farmall C. You have given us so many ideas in how to do this correctly and with minimal hassle. Our total off the frame rebuild kit came 3 months ago and we are just now tackling it. We have the tools necessary to complete the job but your expert tutorial/explanation is giving us confidence to get her back mowing and towing in the field.

Each winter my Dad and I would rebuild some piece of equipment including tractors so it takes me back to those days of fun !

Hi Pete, it is so cool that you have decided to go completely through your Super C. As I think back to the late 50’s and60’s and list all of the chores we did with our Super C. I am really amazed at all we were able accomplished with it. We had both of the two row planter, and cultivator attachments. And the mounted cycle bar mower. Thus I remember spending endless hours under the umbrella, planting & cultivating while trying to stay awake! We also pulled the hay rake with it four hours on end. And had fun while I gave many hay rides pulling the old bale wagon filled with all of my friends & family. Yes! she was a good old faithful tractor our little Super C. Have a blessed day Pete!

Pete.... It just goes to show us all that back in the day... they made things of good quality and built to last. Normal wear and tear is normal, that's what Engines do.... and they do it well better if they're taken care of and not beaten into the ground or abused...! Good maintenance, good quality motor oil & filters, and good coolant... if one skimps on any of the 4... they pay the price later on down the road.....! =)

When we'd visit the family ranch during X'Mas holidays, I would always run to the machine shop on the place and go down into the pits below the two bays (which, during the winter, always had a tractor above me) and just be hypnotized with everything mechanical. Today's episode sort of reminded me (after six decades) of those times. Thanks again for jogging my rusty brain.

Growing up in a green tractor mechanic shop in the 60s and 70s I can relate to project creep. I remember a 2010 that had a blown head gasket and ended up needing everything you mentioned. At around 12 years old this was a fun project but now is more work than I would tackle so I have a new orange tractor but still reminisce of my younger days like the Little River band song goes but with tractors.
