Not a "fire tornado" looks like plume dominated fire behavior. Much worse. Please be careful all my Cal-Fire brothers and sisters and everyone else on the fireline and in harm's way. You all deserve to go home safe.

@@paulmaassen1806 respectfully, when all or a major portion of a large timber fire smoke column takes on the cyclonic motion the fire behavior term is plume domination. This phenomenon has a profound effect on rate and direction of spread and has killed people in the past. I used that term because it means something very specific and dangerous to my fellow firefighters.

Rain will be “allowed” to come in as soon as the land is prime for floods/ profitable destruction on the catastrobonds market. There actually is a large pacific moisture flow NW of the coast which is being blockaded with weather satellites. But tv news won’t mention that

It's been really humid here in socal we've only gotten a few inches of rain but at least it's something! In order for it to rain it has to be somewhat cool and 100% humidity and lately the heat wave is making it very humid because it won't let it rain

Yeah it’s Insane, was on Black Butte fire the other day in Oregon, dug line for 6 hours up a ridge, right when we tied in with another crew, weather picked up and was throwing spots 200 yards over the line, and the fire completely blew over our line and just about trapped us down in this saddle. Main fire was putting up 30 foot flames, and then the spots that crossed our line started to burn behind us and the whole area we had prepped just blew up in flames in a matter of less than 5 mins. Pretty crazy what weather can do in a matter of seconds, literally had 8 spots pop up like it was nothing and they immediately just turned into quarter acre fires like it was nuthin, and that goes to show what low RH does, everything combusts with no issue 😂

Part of it had spread over a large open field and was jumping off the treetops. The firefighters were able to take a water cannon type truck out into the burnt field and shoot water onto the trees, but it took hours to bring it totally under control. This was one day only. My heart aches for everyone's losses.

We have 20 rotaries out here… fixed wing cant fly in this, nor when we were under an inversion layer…. They did have fixed wing at one point dropping retardant on both sides of containment lines… but it still jumped the line..
      its a mess for sure.

Look up Blancolirio aviation channel for a good explainer on how these operations are conducted.

Well, its not helping. We’re most likely evacuating soon. Wildland firefighters are setting up around my end of town.
They better bring in the natgrd because people are very angry. It never should have gone on this long.

That's a story about one's existential reckoning as they accept the truth about reality. It has nothing to do with the physical world that is currently on fire around us.

Only thing that will stop this fire is no fuel and a week of rain. this fire will still be burning in November. They are dumping millions of gallons of water on it daily. (As long as they can fly due to smoke.)

Great idea. But that's not how it works. What actually needs to happen: Log it; Graze it; Keep the floors clean; keep the trees limbed up.....or watch it burn. If they had the water (they don't) all the water in the world would not stop the advance of a fire like this. It's too late. If you want to avoid fires like this, you need to prevent them from starting by maintaining the land. Something California has not done for decades.

@@mattphillips1910 Most of this area is federal property: maintained by the USFS. California has spent tens of $ millions on forest thinning project in recent years. There have been historic droughts over ¬ 15 of the last 20 years; the forest acts like tinder in these extremely hot, dry, windy conditions as there is almost no moisture left in the trees. See also large fires in every other western state. And see catastrophic wildfires in western Canada, where clearcutting is very common. While some people do need to do a better job of clearing space around their homes, they have found that embers in these conditions are traveling unusually long distances.
