  • Presenting a full journey compilation between Rameshwaram and Chennai aboard the Rameshwaram Bhubaneshwar Express (I later switch to the Guruvayur Chennai Egmore Express). We start off bright and early from Rameshwaram, led by a Golden Rock WDP3A, delayed by a few minutes due to the arrival of the legendary Boat Mail from Chennai, also led by a sparkling WDP3A.
    Soon, we cross the choppy waters of the Palk Strait across the 2 kilometre wide Pamban Bridge. We subsequently cut through interior Tamil Nadu, through the small towns of Ramanathapuram, Paramakkudi and Sivaganga. In the process, we meet the Madurai Rameshwaram and the Tiruchirapalli Rameshwaram Passengers, both with Golden Rock Alcos - the first with a Golden Rock WDP3A.
    We reach Tiruchirappalli at lunch time. Due to track work in the Trichy Villupuram main line, we take the chord line and fly across the dried up Kaveri and Colleroon rivers. We are made to halt at Virudunagar where meet the Vaigai Express and the Bangalore Kairakal Passenger. We subsequently proceed towards Villupuram and meet the Villupuram Mayiladuthurai Passenger on the outskirts of Villupuram.
    I switch trains at Villupuram to board the WAP7 hauled Guruvayur Chennai Egmore Express and we fly towards Chennai as dusk settles around us. A bunch of south bound trains from Chennai fly past, the most notable being the Tiruchendur Express, hauled by a Tondiarpet WDM3A.

    Your thoughts were wrong . After Trichy (towards Rameshwaram ) there are so many hectares of agriculture lands are there . But All are in other side which means the train track is far away from agriculture lands . Only Rameshwaram doesn't have agriculture lands . Others have. If your going to take a tour to Rameshwaram October month is the best mild weather all over Tamil nadu. And one more Devakottai road also a big station too .

    • @palebluedotdenizen689
      @palebluedotdenizen689 5 лет назад +1

      @ Dana Mack
      : Thanx for your interest. As a matter of fact, the WAP 7 electric loco you see in this video and ALL the electric and diesel locos, passenger coaches and freight wagons of the trains on the vast network of rails in India, belong to a single Govt. of India owned Public Sector Enterprise, viz, The Indian Railways [ IR ] : www.indianrailways.gov.in/.
      Fun facts on IR from : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Indian_Railways :
      "Indian Railways (IR) is India's national railway system operated by the Ministry of Railways. It manages the fourth largest railway network in the world by size, with a route length of 67,368-kilometre (41,861 mi) and total track length of 121,407-kilometre (75,439 mi) as of March 2017. Routes are electrified with 25 kV AC electric traction while 33% of them are double or multi-tracked.
      " "A total of 30,212 route km was electrified by 31 March 2018 (primarily on high-density routes), 48.98 percent of the total rail network. About 54.0% of passenger traffic and 65.0% of freight traffic is operated by electric traction."
      "Indian Railway (IR) runs more than 20,000 passenger trains daily, on both long-distance and suburban routes, from 7,349 stations across India. The trains have five-digit and four-digit numbering system. Mail or Express trains, the most common types, run at an average speed of 50.6 kilometres per hour (31.4 mph). Most premium passenger trains like Rajdhani, Shatabdi Exp run at peak speed of 140-150 km/h (87-93 mph) with Gatiman Express between New Delhi and Agra touching peak speed of 160 km/h (99 mph). Indian railways has also started a pilot project by the name of "Train-18", with successful trials between Delhi-Varanasi and Lucknow-Delhi and clocked maximum track speed of 180 km/h (112mph)." [ Update : "Train 18" is renamed "Vande Bharat Express", and now runs on two routes : one, between New Delhi and Varanasi, 5 days a week and the other, between New Delhi and Katra Vaishno Devi, 6 days a week : en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vande_Bharat_Express ]
      "In the freight segment, IR runs more than 9,200 trains daily. The average speed of freight trains is around 24 kilometres per hour (15 mph). [Maximum speed of freight trains varies from 60 to 75 km/h (37 to 47 mph) depending upon their axle load with container special running at a peak speed of 100 km/h (62 mph).
      "
      "As of March 2017, Indian Railway's rolling stock consisted of 277,987 freight wagons, 70,937 passenger coaches and 11,452 locomotives. IR owns locomotive and coach-production facilities at several locations in India. The world's eighth-largest employer, it had 1.308 million employees as of March 2017."
      "In the year ending March 2018, IR carried 8.26 billion passengers and transported 1.16 billion tonnes of freight.[2] In the fiscal year 2017-18, IR is projected to have revenue of ₹1.874 trillion (US$27 billion), consisting of ₹1.175 trillion (US$17 billion) in freight revenue and ₹501.25 billion (US$7.3 billion) in passenger revenue, with an operating ratio of 96.0 percent."
