Rameshwaram Chennai Full Journey: Palk Strait and WDP3A

- Presenting a full journey compilation between Rameshwaram and Chennai aboard the Rameshwaram Bhubaneshwar Express (I later switch to the Guruvayur Chennai Egmore Express). We start off bright and early from Rameshwaram, led by a Golden Rock WDP3A, delayed by a few minutes due to the arrival of the legendary Boat Mail from Chennai, also led by a sparkling WDP3A.
Soon, we cross the choppy waters of the Palk Strait across the 2 kilometre wide Pamban Bridge. We subsequently cut through interior Tamil Nadu, through the small towns of Ramanathapuram, Paramakkudi and Sivaganga. In the process, we meet the Madurai Rameshwaram and the Tiruchirapalli Rameshwaram Passengers, both with Golden Rock Alcos - the first with a Golden Rock WDP3A.
We reach Tiruchirappalli at lunch time. Due to track work in the Trichy Villupuram main line, we take the chord line and fly across the dried up Kaveri and Colleroon rivers. We are made to halt at Virudunagar where meet the Vaigai Express and the Bangalore Kairakal Passenger. We subsequently proceed towards Villupuram and meet the Villupuram Mayiladuthurai Passenger on the outskirts of Villupuram.
I switch trains at Villupuram to board the WAP7 hauled Guruvayur Chennai Egmore Express and we fly towards Chennai as dusk settles around us. A bunch of south bound trains from Chennai fly past, the most notable being the Tiruchendur Express, hauled by a Tondiarpet WDM3A.

in my child hood a comparatively smaller engine with code name WCP1 was used on Pune Lonavala Locals .When after so many years I visited Rail museum in Delhi ,I climbed upto driver window and took a snap as past memory .

Your thoughts were wrong . After Trichy (towards Rameshwaram ) there are so many hectares of agriculture lands are there . But All are in other side which means the train track is far away from agriculture lands . Only Rameshwaram doesn't have agriculture lands . Others have. If your going to take a tour to Rameshwaram October month is the best mild weather all over Tamil nadu. And one more Devakottai road also a big station too .

But, I am not able to understand, why the WDP3A was used for the entire RMM-MS stretch since TPJ-MS is fully electrified. Anyone has answer to this?

Nice.. But I think this was in March as you travelled through thebdiverted TPJ-VM Chord line via Ariyalur.. The Usual route is the main line via Thanjavur and Mayiladuthurai which is a single lie diesel section..
