I had a great fortune to be present in that Cassette release function where his Hello led to standing ovation. Miss Him. Ashitbhai and Hemaben had very close association. Once after recording he came to their home especially to have Guj food. Kuldeep ji. Congratulations and thanks to you and all your honoured guests to put together this wonderful program for Pundit Shri Jagjit Singh Ji. Pease elaborate a lot more and throw a lot more light on the mastero's mastery over pure classical music. He is mot merely a ghazal singer. He was a complete singer and that included his poweress as a classical singer. Who else can do film playback and composition, ghazals, bhazans, geets, folk music with equal ease in recording studios as well as live on stage. And dare I say this that he could do this all because of his solid base in understanding and training and riyaz in the classical music. What the world of ghazals gained was what the Indian classical music lost. Though he didn't dwelve a lot in sufiana qawwali but in some of the interludes he had with Deepak Pundit in his concerts clearly showed that he had full understanding of this genre of music as well. Kuldeep ji , please put together a programme focussing on his singing classical folk like thumris, dadras and other classical babdishes like Hori.etc. Gujrat should raise a very very strong and effective voice in honouring the Mastero with a Padma Vibhushan at least if not Bharat Ratna. If Mehndi Hassan saheb and Ghulam Ali Khan are Ustads and Nishane Pakistan then Jagjit Singh ji is definitely Pundit Jagjit Singh Ji and worthy of a higher recognition and appreciation and award than Padma Bhushan. Jagjit Singh Ji started his music from Gujarat. Let Gujrat get him his overdue recognition . Amen
