    1.54 is actually air void ratio which is consist in dry mix when we mix water the air has released and material volume has decreased.

      When air is released and those spaces are occupied by water, vol should remain same. Isn't so?

    During dry condition the particles of concrete i.e, cement sand and aggregates are held together by friction leaving pores and voids in the dry concrete which occupy a space of (54% of wet concrete) inside the dry concrete mix. On addition of water the particles of dry concrete slide over one another due to the loss of friction between particles as the water acts as a lubricant between the particles resulting in readjustment of particles in a closely packed pattern reducing the volume occupied by the voids and hence reducing the volume of concrete mass.....     Sir my question is dry volume=wet vol. +( 54% of wet vol.) is it according to IS Standard. ? And whether 54% is always considered or does it vary? Plz clear this doubt....

    because as far as i understand and please correct me ; the ratio of 1.2.4 applies to mix in general use. some other ratio composition can also be used under various circumstances.

    Ratio ke bare mein thoda jankari chahiye ki jab mix design banaya Aur total weight/density 2400 kg for one M3 hua to iska Ratio nikalne ke Liye Liquid (water & Admix) ko hata kar nikalna hai ya sath mein ? Aur ye Ratio wet Dry Ratio kahlayega ya wet Ratio?

    Sir.ur concept on wet n dry volume is a little tricky for me.when a column size of 1m(l)*1m(b)*2m(ht)=2m3.acc to m30 mix design ,cement consumption is 7 bags/m3.then acc 14 bags cement must to be consumed.but by multiplying by 1.54 we get 3.08m3 which in turn 21.56 bags cement will be consumed.is this the way.

      2 m3 is the wet volume. we have to convert wet volume into dry volume by multiplying with 1.54. then from that dry volume we have to calculate the cement sand and aggregate. This is the main funda sir
