  • Here you can see a small comparison/test between a Trabant 601 and an Opel Corsa E. Of course it is a comparison between apples and pears and is intended more for entertainment. Viewed soberly, it's a comparison between two small cars that are separated by a good 60 years of science. It's really difficult to compare a classic car with a "modern car".
But, from how many KM range does a feeling of freedom arise? In any case, everyone has to decide this question for themselves, in GDR times it was definitely enough. :)
But no matter, we do a range test and compare a Trabant 601S (with economy carburetor) from 1989 against a current electric Corsa in the Ultimate Edition - who gets ahead?
To make everything as realistic as possible, both cars drive exactly the same lap at the same speed. (Which benefited the Opel a lot :))
The test round begins in Werdau in Saxony, takes us via Schmölln, to Altenburg, on to Glauchau and then via Zwickau (the origin of the Trabant) to get back to Werdau. The round is almost exactly 100km long and offers all kinds of variety such as city traffic, country roads, motorways and mountains.
    But....
...Can you actually compare two cars with almost 60 years of science between them?
Not really, but it doesn't matter!
After a brief presentation of the two cars, we start with the Trabant, which stands out from other cars simply because of the steering wheel gearshift and the unmistakable 2-stroke sound. Anyone who has never driven a Trabant may also be concerned about the driving noise. In fact, you immediately feel transported back to a time long past.
Driving pleasure arises as soon as you drive off and you can imagine how some of our parents or grandparents drove across the country back then.
If you then climb from the Trabant into the E Corsa, it comes very close to a leap into the future.
A gentle murmur accelerates you powerfully, but there is definitely no question of annoying driving noises. Nothing here actually reminds of a small car. As for the driving experience, it's just fun in a different way.
You can feel the efficiency of this car and enjoy the quiet. Starting off is a bit reminiscent of a tram, just with more bang. Despite all the advantages, emotions only really come up in a Trabi, at least if you have a heart for vintage cars.
Already after the second round, it becomes apparent that the Opel will not quite get that far.
To be fair, one has to say that one can certainly tickle a few more kilometers with the Opel.
In any case, it is specified with a range of 359 KM.
I think it's a shame to drive the Trabi every day now, it's also possible that I'm getting older.
Much more relaxed is such a "I drive empty until nothing works test" with the Trabant, thanks to the canister with petrol.
You are naturally much less afraid of stopping than you are with an electric car. Well, and that the Opel is superior in pretty much every point you could make, was clear from the start. well the Trabant has come a couple of kilometers further. albeit at a higher price.
    Attention spoilers:
For those who just want numbers:
    380KM the Trabant 6.84 liters/ 100KM.
25 liters with oil total 60 euros
    ________________________________________________
    325KM the Opel. 14.15KW/ 100km. 15,- costs
