I received my R5 two weeks ago. I am blown away. I am into Wildlife and this camera is maybe what I was waiting for? Somehow yes. There may never be the perfect camera for me I guess :) But the R5 comes damn close. Taking short 8k/30 video clips and extract 35MP images out of it - how great is this??? And the EF lenses work perfectly, I use on the R5 my Canon 600mm 4.0 III and this lens performs like being on an EF Mount body. Excellent!!! The Animal Eye Autofocus??? Wonderful, stunning performance. Well done, Canon!
Kathy Filipovich The AA Filter? I don’t think so, it was not an issue with the 1DX Mark III, I don’t see this as an issue now with the R5. At usual, what counts is lens quality. I use the R5 with an adapted Canon 600mm 4.0 III and this combo really rocks for wildlife. Once you tried the Animal Eye Autofocus on the R5 you hardly will go back to something else. And I can compare this directly with other gear like a Sony A7R4. So for me the R5 is currently one of the best cameras for Wildlife. For high speed action though I would select a Sony A9 II.
The footage is awesome man, it does not matter what other people are saying about the brand, what matter is you are happy on your purchase. Good luck on your new gear.
Same experience here one week in with the R5, Teppo! The only regret I have right now is not having bought a more powerful MacBook last year for the 4K footage... 😂
I pre-ordered the R6 and cannot wait! I'm primarily a photographer and will use the R6 for wildlife images, as well as RUclips B roll. There is no IBIS as good as a gimbal, period; but for stills shooting, the IBIS should be great. I still have my 5D Mark IV for landscape photography. Until that rumored 75 MP body comes out one day.
This is what a good review is all about. Using the camera the way a realistic person will use it. Thanks man. I can understand the overheating issue for those shooting a long format videos though. By the way I'm shooting mainly with sony for stills and video but for my vlogging I'm using the EOS R with the 15-35mm. Pls make more "realistic" shoots with the R5 for vlogging.
I've been using the R for about a year and a half now primarily for weddings and filmmaking, absolutely love it! Looking forward to getting the R5 which is going to produce great prints. Going to make it my A cam and the R will be my backup body.

Nice!! Making me want to go to that spot and buy an R5. Everything looks great! Proxies should help a lot, I used to have to do that when I shot SONY 4k since their files dont playback very smoothly in premiere. Congrats!!

I tested a few times doing 5-15 second clips here & there over an hour and. Half period. Then just recording straight through, let it cool 10 min & record again. I was only able to get half of the total recording time by doing short clips which makes no sense to me. I have seen that when the camera gets hot & says something like "5:00" remaining, if you do a 10 second clip, it will likely then say 3min remaining. Compared to if you recorded until it shutoff, you would get 7min of recording.
@@TeppoHaapoja Yeah. There are some videos out today that show you can record forever in 4K HQ with an external recorder IF you remove the memory cards from the camera. So apparently the cards build up a lot of heat even on idle. I think Canon will at least fix some of this through firmware. Glad your camera is working for you!
Nice video. Your enthusiasm really comes through. This helps a lot because I was feeling bad with all the negativity surrounding it. I did see (from other reviewers) that the ambient temperature doesn’t affect the internal heating as much as in the Sony A7S3. It is good news for me in India.
I've had mine for a week now and no overheating issues. The caveat is that I'm using the camera as it was intended, which is to shoot stills interspersed with occasional video. I wouldn't buy this camera if I were a videographer.

I'm a videographer who loves to shoot stills also... My last canon was a 5D Mark 3. Now I have a A7R3 and a red epic. But I just bought the R5 and A7S3 I'm stoked for both!
I pre ordered the R5 and then was turned off by the overheating reviews. I ended up cancelling and ordering the R6 since I don't need 8k and 60fps in 4k is great for my work. I understand R6 overheats as well, but not as bad.

Teppo Haapoja Nice one 👍🏻. I’m in a similar spot to you with my R5. Gonna upgrade to filming in 4K 24 as my base line, only using 4K 120 for short bursts. Don’t even know what I would do with 8K footage 🤷🏼♂️. The 4K looked great, that sunset shot as you went into the lake 👌🏻👏🏻
The viking cam I’m just stating if you have to ask, you probably wouldn’t be able to tell between HQ mode or standard 4k...it will be even less noticeable going from the standard 4k to A7SIII . I’m watching it on my LG65 OLED and can tell you The image quality when playing back The A7Siii and the standard r5 4k30fps you wouldn’t be able to tell the difference, however the 4kHQ if shooting a cinematic scene you can definitely tell because it has a smoother roll off due to the super sample from 8k, but if you’re just shooting RUclips videos not really a noticeable difference. People need to know when the benefits will show up and a screen shot is not going to show you what quality is, you have to see it in motion

How did you manage to use in-lens IS, but disable IBIS at the same time? I thought that currently the only way to disable IBIS with an IS lens is to switch the IS-slider on the lens to OFF!? Otherwise: nice shooting!

Roland Csuka I am not taking long clips, Max maybe 1 Minute. I never had any issue with overheating in this way. For me the R5 works greatly.

It doesn’t overheat one the regular line skipped 4K. It’s the 8k , HQ, and high frame rates that overheat.
Just update the firmware on your 15-35. The wobble is now fixed (supposedly) for that particular lens.

It didnt overheat becoz u used the 4k 24fps ...in this mode the camera dont heat...just in the 4k 120fps after 18 min..and 8k after 27 min!!

I’m next to you in Latvia and usually running my camera in 25/50 fps. Not sure if I’m doing it correct now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

what i want to know is how bad the shortage is.

How did you manage to use in-lens IS, but disable IBIS at the same time? I thought that currently the only way to disable IBIS with an IS lens is to switch the IS-slider on the lens to OFF!? Otherwise: nice shooting!

@@TeppoHaapoja Image Stabilizer Mode selection is greyed-out when using a lens with IS. You turn it all on or all off with the lens IS button.

Why did you go with the R5 and not the R6. For wedding photo/videographers the R6 seems the more obvious choice?!
I shoot weddings only 1/3 of the time and I also have the EOS R so the R6 wasnt that necessary
Did you notice that there is space in the package for an EF-RF adapter that is not included? Besides, everything flies like a rattle during transport?
