Our medical industry has become a Cartel for sheer profits. It’s disgusting. Obamacare was really to destroy individual doctors and their ability to give true care and healing and put everyone under the “hospital administrators” tying the hands of Docs and mandating profits over care and true health. It’s hard to enjoy this when myself and my family are the ones suffering and stuck in psychiatry-especially my son 28 years old. They forced overdosed him of Haldol injections and stuck him in isolation to die. My husband saw him dying. We weren’t supposed to see it. We did and I had to argue to get help to stop his death. He has also been held on the floor and kicked in the head by med techs in a psych hospital. Last year he lost his right eye when they forced haldol injections AGAIN and put him in isolation for two hours. He tried to get off his med his way last year and that is what landed him in a hospital. Now he’s on even more drugs. And when he was in there they kept introducing more and more drugs (as usual) and he had reactions to them all. He’s extremely sensitive to these drugs. Yet they blame the patient for his behaviors after poisoning him and causing the hallucinations and agitation and aggression. Which, after having been abused multiple times in psych hospitals, is a normal reaction when he is in withdrawals and they’re coming at him with injections and restraints and more. I don’t know how to get him free. There is no help. There is only torment. I’m trying to taper myself off Klonopin. Have been trying since 2017. It is all evil. I have so many traumatic experiences now because of psychiatry. It is a trap and it is pure evil. We need help. God help us. I cannot live a normal life. The life has been sucked out of me through their drugs, trauma of seeing my son suffer, their intimidation of me and gaslighting when I am advocating constantly for him. I feel I’m facing the mental health mafia. We need help.

They are going against the current and if Chris Palmer was not affiliated to the most prestigious psych hospital of the US- mc Lean and Harvard University. @@MindShiftChronicle It’s easy to see that processed foods with a lot of chemical additives are unhealthy. Produce & grains are sprayed with glyphosate and other pesticides. Cut down on these poisons and the body can heal. Low carb diets eliminate a lot of toxic food. Ruminant animals with 4-chambered stomachs (cows, lamb, deer) are able to process out a lot of these harmful substances that may be fed to them.
learning French years ago I read Le Mal du Sucre... all about the use of sugar in so many canned foods; I gave it up and use pure maple syrup or honey; I do believe it has been beneficial to my health.

Its not torture of the weak that is judgemental but I agree it is torture, and usually the strong are tortured as they want control and power over the strong.
Gaslight, taunting, and pushing all the blame on patients for a medication they never asked to be prescribed on from the first place when thing goes south and worst of all, "forced" to be taken off the medication either on a fast to virtually no taper schedule,leaving us as patients suffering the agony of mind torturing withdrawal symptoms, we are literally at the mercy of some unethical and greedy doctors. I'm glad we have some doctors like Dr. Josef, who comes out and speaks up. Medical systems across the globe need to do something.
This is a great interview. To add a bit to it, I think that what doesn't get mentioned enough, is that the 1980 move toward a disease-model of psychiatry, is openly called "neo-Kraepelinian" psychiatry by its practitioners. Emil Kraepelin, of course, was the inventor of Nazi eugenics, and was the teacher of the better known Ernst Rudin who actually carried out the vast eugenics campaigns of Nazi Germany. American psychiatrists of today -literally- refer to Kraepelin as the "Patron Saint" of their profession, and unironically call themselves Neo-Kraepelinians. Kraepelin wanted to rid the world of, "poets, dreamers, gypsies, and Jews." Psychiatrists of today consider this man a hero, and are not taught that he invented Nazi eugenics. It is one of a million things that young psychiatrists are not taught.

Dr. Ewott, it seems you have some knowledge about this. While it's true that Emil Kraepelin made significant contributions to psychiatry or so we are taught-- the rest of the story is never taught! Personally, I entered this field with idealistic and nye-naive aspirations to serve the underserved without the whole context and i didn't understand why psychiatry was so criticized by other fields in medecine before this. However, upon beginning residency, I was confronted with the stark realities of the profession. Residency has led me to experience the greatest personal and professional crisis of my life. Currently, I feel trapped in residency due to trauma responses-- freezed in residency-- due to the field, doubting my ability to complete such a challenging specialty and earn the title of psychiatrist. These doubts persist even after four years. Despite advocating for a paradigm shift in the profession, it appears unlikely to happen. What advice would you offer me in this situation?

My name is Drew Ott, not Dr Ewott, and I’m amused that you thought I was a physician, because I’m actually an incorrectly-diagnosed “schizophrenic” who’s been fully recovered without meds or a shrink for 6+ years now. However if you can keep listening, you’ve actually asked the right guy, as I work in marketing, and I’ve been thinking about psychiatrists career issues for 10 years, as well as lurking psychiatry forums where they discuss money and career. You have two big career obstacles ahead of you. The first is getting your starter job in a group practice that is usually a pill mill where you will have little say over how patients are handled ethically. Your main metric will be “customer lifetime value,” and most likely your employer will encourage you to overdiagnose since that’s how you get customers. Most psychiatrists are scared to “make the leap” to a solo practice, because they’re unsure how to run a business. Let me encourage you that this is the easiest “leap” in the business world, as there is supposedly a mental health crisis, a shortage of psychiatrists, you have a legal monopoly on drugs, and you’re backed by billions of dollars of free propaganda money by the pharmaceutical industry. It is the easiest business to start in the entire world, so I’ve always been shocked to see psychiatrists discussing how scared they are to go out on their own. Once you go out on your own, your new obstacle (the second one) is going to be liability. If you want to run a practice based on ethics, you are going to have to walk a tightrope regarding legal liability. Anything you do that’s outside the “standard of care” is something a patient can sue you for if something happens to them later. For example if someone comes in saying they’re sad, and you don’t recommend them antidepressants, and then they complete s*icide, their family could potentially sue you. But! If someone comes in, says they’re fine, you diagnose them with depression and prescribe antidepressants, and THEN they complete s*icide, now you’re safe from lawsuit because you were just following the standard of care. By being an anti-psychiatry, ethical psychiatrist, you’re basically up against lawsuits in a big way because you aren’t protected by your profession’s ridiculous control of the legal system. It seems to me that some psychiatrists such as Dr Josef are able to pull off this new business model. Focus on de-prescribing, tell patients the truth, actually listen to them, and actually help them. It’ll be a little riskier and you’ll be carving a new path, but as far as I can tell, it’s the only way possible for a psychiatrist to fulfill their aspirations to serve the underserved. I would also say, if a patient doesn’t have any reason to come back and keep seeing you, tell them that and accept that you may lose a customer. The fee-per-appointment business model of psychiatrists is abusive when the psychiatrist doesn’t inform you that you aren’t required to keep returning. By rights, tapering oversight should be an option for anyone who was lied to about the safety and effectiveness of the drugs, not just those with resources to pay out of pocket. We need class action lawsuits.
I had to face it on my own. I still see a doctor and lie to him that I am taking the meds because they are foreceful and he keeps saying I am worse because I need higher doses so he keeps upping my dosage. Imagine if I was taking it. Therapist tells me that pretty much therapy won't work if it's not accompanied by drugs. In fact some are even reluctant to give theraphy. I get horrified that if people dont have out of pocket money, they cant even get anyone to even talk to.

I can't take any penicillin drugs because of severe reactions. Dental care is not available for me. I'm very careful with my diet and brushing my teeth every day. Dietary issues are the cause for every single illness and disorder.
Hospital medical staff barely exist now - each of the hospitals in Niagara Falls have 2 physicians/shift. The ERs are included under this staffing - yet more staff is hardly needed, as long as disease-like Labeling and drugging is the Treatment!
I was prescribed Zoloft ...after two weeks on the drug I developed homicidal and suicidal thoughts ....when I disclosed this to my so called doctor, he raised the dose . From that day on I never trusted a psychiatrist.
I grew up I’m the 60’s early 70s with my mum always on antidepressants & other mental health drugs. I wish I could go back as a doctor to really help my precious mum. About 9 years ago my kids stepsister had a beautiful baby and I heard she was suffering from post postpartum depression. I warned anyone who would listen this could be serious and should not be left to a young father and her “doctor” (I believe the doctor was her primary. ) a few weeks after being p prescribed antidepressants she took her own life. Even though I was detached from their family I was mortified. I remember myself going through a postpartum and Thank God did not have to go on antidepressants from a doctor that could have been clueless. Since then I believe hormones, such as progesterone can help with postpartum and other types of depression. Hormones can be 1 life preserver even for one poor soul that is suffering.
Mozart's sister did not suffer from depression - since her aesthetic Training was Prenatal. Her mother was a violinist, who constantly played Leopold's music! / All of us can take up Talent Training, as offered by Peter Breggin, Madan Katara, Howard Glasser and the Sukuki School of Violin!
Long story short - 10 years ago my doctor took me off effexor cold turkey!! What followed was a very prolonged horrific nightmare. Beyond anything I even knew was possible. It's a pity that it takes decades before people are wise enough to learn how incompetent and corrupt the system actually is.

I'm fairly certain that my CPSD is not mainly from childhood trauma but abuse at psychiatric hospitals. I have been to one non-abusive one that I was sent to that normally takes care of well-off people.
I so love you guys and all those that are speaking out about what is happening with taking psych drugs and benzo's etc...we are getting a new Dr here in NZ for my son because the other one there was a conflict of interest he threatened my son years ago and will not give on a lot of issues but in saying that the other Dr is older and stayed in his view am guessing with the staunch view of meds and psych way of doing things...will be praying...10 years coming up and no change, no getting better...I even asked a nurse what is the definition of getting better and he walked away...you guys with Dr Peter Breggin and others are legends as mentioned...❤❤
As a future psychiatrist, I increasingly feel disheartened by the current state of psychiatry. Despite the demand for treatment and support from patients, there's a pressing need for change. It's saddening to learn that fear is preventing many individuals from seeking help from psychiatrists.

I read his books many years ago. Along with Peter Breggin's work, his books have been a major influence in my perspective about the mental health system and more critically, the psych pharma industry.
6:50 So sad that this experience is so prevalent and common. Mine was in being surrounded by people who treated me like they were doing me a special FAVOR by treating me this way! Its revoltingly perverse.
A good friend of mine ended up getting very sick. He had bizarre symptoms like stuttering vision, extended episodes of pacing, inability to initiate normal tasks, nonsensical thoughts etc etc. He ended up going to the hospital and they wanted to put him thru as a mental patient, but he said he really didn't think it was a psychiatric issue. After he was bounced around a bunch someone finally listened to him and reservedly offered a trial of steroids. Turns out he had some kind of encephalitis!
Those f****** put me on Prozac for 6 years and it precipitated an addiction to some other types of substances that I don't want to mention here because everything is monitored and judged by the eye of sauron. It wasn't until I hit rock bottom and started reading the books by Abraham Hicks that I realized my thoughts were the causes of my emotions and my emotions were the cause of my actions. And my beliefs are just thoughts I think, so to change my thought patterns I need to change my beliefs and that takes practice and discipline and some time but it works and it did, and now I'm a free man.

The psychiatric industry is profit driven and turned me into a drug dependant zombie. My issues, by and large, came from childhood trauma (poverty, mother addicted to alcohol and nicotine, etc) and married to a man with autism (not diagnosed until 2009, despite seeing 30 + psychologists/psychiatrists from 1980 (what a coincidence)). Instead of advice to leave dysfunctional relationship, with two children and stressful job, I was doped up on prescription antidepressants. I met 3 "good" ones, but, it is the most disgusting industry. Ninety per cent of my issues were (and are) situational.
* I got off the final antidepressant in 2011 (from 1991). Last one Effexor-SR. First an MAO (Aurorix?), then SSRIs including Zoloft, Citalopram and probably others along the way (memory issues, many of those years forgotten). Never heard of PSSD until now. Explains a lot.
I just love Robert. (Watched many interviews of him) But you was a great interviewer, too. Probably one of the best Ive seen interviewing him. You are concentrated and polite.
My head is exploding with ideas. I’m a licensed counselor and have worked in community mental health for years. Here’s a big thing: psychiatrists stopped being therapists. As that happened the field opened to other professionals who are disposed to caring about life events, feelings and all the thing’s associated with surrounding stories that make up a person’s life. Psychiatrist have become remote, detached figures. I tend to recognize psychiatric nurse practitioners. I think this is because they are better listeners and more current and aware. I also wonder if there are significant difference in personality and priorities in mental health counselors and psychiatric versus a person who leans toward medical careers. Multi-factorial issue.
You make a keen observation. Essentially, you're questioning whether there's a disparity in behavior between someone with a three or four-year degree versus someone with a 12 to 15-year degree. In essence, doctors are akin to soldiers, trained to think within a certain framework and discouraged from questioning the system. Would you risk being expelled from residency for challenging the system? Who would shoulder their $300k medical debt? This is compounded by financial and insurance pressures to swiftly diagnose and medicate. Nurses and therapists don't have all these pressures!

I would love to see a journalist investigate how many suicides in this country have a history of antidepressant exposure-whether it be short term, long term, tapered to sudden and rapid withdrawal. I would put money on the fact that most suicides today as well as the increase in suicides is directly and absolutely related to antidepressants. But money is more important than human life so I’m sure we’ll never see that investigation not to mention the fact that big Pharma owns our information highway.and too much money is at stake -the criminal priority of putting profit before people and human life is sickening. And how warped the mental health establishment has become is beyond mind boggling. And if the pharmaceutical agencies believe there could be an inkling of this to come out, they’ll just use more coercion to silent any form of dissent or information that doesn’t support their narrative. This is some of the most egregious criminal activity out there. Harming people in the name of helping them and profiting from not just the negligence of but purposeful destruction of the whistle blower whether it be the ethical doctor, outspoken family member or “difficult” patient. How we got here is group think at its worst and reflects a side of humanity that can make one easily lose hope in how we will ever get out of this mess especially now that we’re sunk so deep in. Whitaker and this doctor are small but brilliant rays of hope-it would behoove us to support them and follow their lead. But it will take us coming forward in numbers speaking out collectively to change it, I don’t believe there’s any other way.
No actually, psychiatrists now say that people aren't committing suicide. They now say people are dying of natural causes because it's easier than excepting they haven't seen the actual suicide attempt. psychiatrists also continue to deny that all medications have no relationship to suicide. They all say that it's the people being non-compliant to their treatment protocols or mixing their drugs with other drugs. Excuse after excuse after excuse. and still no accountability held for so many suicides.

trainee psychiatrist here: the best psychiatrists, the wisest, are specialists in psychotherapy. the drugs are crap, especially long term. i used sertraline myself with initial success, but after a few years the sexual side effects led have seem to have culminated in PSSD and chronic anhedonia. the only thig that has worked a little for me is psychotherapy, exercise, gardening and meditation. a good psychotherapist is worth their weight in gold.
As a trainee psychiatrist you won't be taught to cure anyone, just suppress patients' symptoms until they die. I used the "orthomolecular" approach to taper my relative off of THREE DAILY antipsychotic drugs. It took 4 months but his mental health was restored.The APA has been FIGHTING restorative treatment for at least 80 years. Yes there very difficult to get thru so you have to find the right time n place to listen to and then have an immediate outlet to journal,talk to someone, exercise or just beat a pillow.
I wish that somehow all the prescribers could be given the drugs laden with side effects (not the good kind) and see how they fare and leave them be.. do not listen to what they have to say afterward.. leave them on their way with all the horrific side effects. Shame on them!
Also the accountant run ACA, with its 110,000 statistical categories, $400 premiums and $13k Deductibles. If there's going to be treatment, the doctor has to call ACA to ask permission to treat, yet is often asked for "more information!"

My Benzodiazepines started 2x daily, but at one time in AM 1982 til I left wrk angry ended up in a Hospital. Stressful Job & neck issues typing & phone same time. Been a mess. Today 6/10/2024 starting to get thru Psychiatric mess, when I settle on a GP hope to move forward
You're right and it's so so sad! Not everyone needs to be on these drugs! I think it's scary too that people need to be medicated for reasons that are all part of life. Life isn't easy. It's good sometimes, and sometimes bad things happen. You can get through these things.

Even if you do have a legitimate disorder , Medication rarely if even fixes it . But it can make things so much worse , on top of dealing with your disorder .I think there needs to be more hands-on help and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy . Learning about your embracing your talents , then addressing your obstacles .. Nero- divergent ( a person who thinks differently) is a better way of looking at this , rather than Mentally Ill . Some people when they develop as people , are different in the way they think . This difference is not always an illness . It can be a gift also . Most Musicians , Scientists and Mathematicians as well as great minds in art and literature and more have traits that would qualify as a mental disorder . More than likely they were never diagnosed , and possibly that was a good thing .
Psychiatrist Harry Stack Sullivan had been given the run of Queen's Hospital during the 1950s. He would have intense conversations with a patient, to find out 2 or 3 problems he had not be able to deal with. Sullivan would help him to plan on improvements!

Psychiatry's power comes from 1) lies, 2) the state, and 3) stigma. Without stigma, the coercive methods they use would seem nakedly barbaric and traumatizing, as they are.

Psychiatry had clearly lost its way well before DSM 3. The self-interested ruse that refrigerator mothering doesn't cause autism comes to mind. Harry Harlow made monkeys autistic by feeding them from a wire mother and allowing them to seek comfort from a cloth mother (but no real monkey mother). When these monkeys matured they did not want to mate. Harlow found a way around that and I'm unsure if any of the unwanted baby monkeys of unmothered (autistic) mothers survived, and remember specifically one was killed by his mother eating his fingers off his hands. They may have been less filicidal toward daughters though I don't think the experiment replicated the human social phenomena responsible for the four times higher prevalence of autism in males (maternal daddy issues). This is strongly analogous though to social pressure on developmentally challenged women to secure their futures not entering the dating pool as women who don't want to be mothers. The recklessness of subjecting their unborn children to a "genetic" risk of unknown severity speaks to their developmental immaturity (magical thinking) and taught (environmentally acquired) uncivilized moral savagery. Clear (to me anyway) the so-called "dark empath" = one part autistic low cognitive empathy + one part autistic high affective empathy + some circumstance like unwanted (particularly single) parenthood or intellectual disability. Regardless of disability surely few are better-positioned to abuse more-mercilessly than single parents of only children. Babytrapping monsters like my mother are in-part one consequence of Medicine obfuscating autism's etiology. Guess what else? Diogenes syndrome is adult autistic regression in undiagnosed untreated ASD L1 without intellectual disability. Think about it. The Collyer Brothers (hermits of Harlem) were autistic. Nietzsche too. That wasn't schizophrenia or dementia coming out of his bedroom to which his sister took him out of the sanitarium and CHARGED PEOPLE ADMISSION to listen in her living room. Diogenes self-neglect is a psychiatric sequela of the maternal emotional neglect that causes autism. The deterioration of executive function is a neurological sequela of pruned motor neurons, which are themselves a sequela of neglect. The genome's been sequenced for over a dozen years. Behavioral heritability within families will of course appear "genetic" to people who take no accountability (like the refrigerator mothers who ANNOUNCED they were ASD's etiology when they stopped bringing their children for treatment rather than wanting to find out how to be better mothers). Quite clearly the kids who stop making eye contact do so for finding no delight in their mothers' faces and echolalia is the perseveration of failures to flatter her into games of simon says. Continuing to point to genetic aftermath trying to misrepresent it somehow as an etiological perturbation is as preposterously obscene as o.j. continuing to look for the real killer but far more unconscionable.
@@SamStone1964That's actually more the description of narcissism, not autism. There are overlaps, though. Narcs have no empathy and autistic people have trouble showing it. People tend to mix up a lot with this topic. Also vaccines do not cause autism, yet, they may cause symptoms that look like autism, for example. Huge confusion what is autism and what not, even among professionals. Some of them are on the spectrum and don't realize it. 😂
Exactly. In my observation and anecdotal experience, there is a genetic predisposition of the inheritance of autistic style of behaviour. Some people just are not "into a heavily social, must appear empathetic, support the latest cause and conformist lifestyle" that has become increasingly the expectation of our society. How they are raised will influence their ability to interact with the broader society. So much of the rise in autism lies in lost nurturing (as well as diet). Babies as young as 3 months in day care. Look at the studies of babies in orphanages in Czechoslovakia (? Country) in 1980s. And then we're supposed to believe the nonsense it's all genetically predetermined to relieve the parent's guilt.
Psychiatry never knew the way. They see a car but never notice the driver, so they confuse a cause with an effect. They see all car accidents on the road, they name it and sell different kind of oils or fuels to fix the problem.

We finally came to say that your depression is NOT caused by a lack of Prozac deficiency of the brain. Anxiety isn't caused by your not having enough Xanax and so forth.
Psychosis can be cured. Not with meds. But with healthy nutrition, sunlight/daylicht, working outside. The entire school of psych.. never found it's way. It's unscientific, you prescribe different things until you give up, usually not following any sense. I treat myself successfully, meanwhile, everyone I know is switching meds up multiple times every year.

I work in a psychiatric inpatient facility, where we have people presenting in acute psychosis. Many of these patients do not get better without treatment, in fact, they end up admitted involuntary due to discontinuing psychotropic medications. Maybe you both should volunteer and work in such facilities? Or, provide your contact information so we can send these patients to you so that you can offer the non medication treatment and then give us your outcomes. Where can the population find you?

Our medical industry has become a Cartel for sheer profits. It’s disgusting. ETA: I've also seen plenty of psychologists and social workers and therapists, etc., totally 'bought in' to the medical model of psychiatry, even working alongside psychiatrists, telling their clients things like "therapy will work better if you're seeing the psychiatrist and taking your meds" (this was my own experience w/ a therapist in a mainstream psychiatry practice).

It’s hard to enjoy this when myself and my family are the ones suffering and stuck in psychiatry-especially my son 28 years old. They forced overdosed him of Haldol injections and stuck him in isolation to die. My husband saw him dying. We weren’t supposed to see it. We did and I had to argue to get help to stop his death. He has also been held on the floor and kicked in the head by med techs in a psych hospital. Last year he lost his right eye when they forced haldol injections AGAIN and put him in isolation for two hours. He tried to get off his med his way last year and that is what landed him in a hospital. Now he’s on even more drugs. And when he was in there they kept introducing more and more drugs (as usual) and he had reactions to them all. He’s extremely sensitive to these drugs. Yet they blame the patient for his behaviors after poisoning him and causing the hallucinations and agitation and aggression. Which, after having been abused multiple times in psych hospitals, is a normal reaction when he is in withdrawals and they’re coming at him with injections and restraints and more. I don’t know how to get him free. There is no help. There is only torment. I’m trying to taper myself off Klonopin. Have been trying since 2017. It is all evil. I have so many traumatic experiences now because of psychiatry. It is a trap and it is pure evil. We need help. God help us. I cannot live a normal life. The life has been sucked out of me through their drugs, trauma of seeing my son suffer, their intimidation of me and gaslighting when I am advocating constantly for him. I feel I’m facing the mental health mafia. We need help.

2 Harvard psychiatrists, Chris Palmer and Georgia Ede, report that they have more success in treating major psychiatric disorders with a nutritional diet (low carb, low processed foods) than with current psychiatric medications.
-Saturated fats from animal products were essential; all hormones and all cells in the body (especially the brain) need animal cholesterol as a basic building block.
They are going against the current and if Chris Palmer was not affiliated to the most prestigious psych hospital of the US- mc Lean and Harvard University. I'm not sure if his ideas would be seen and heard. There's just so much politics in medecine that's patients-- and visibly also psychiatrist don't know what to believe anymore( since studies seem to be biased).
@@MindShiftChronicle It’s easy to see that processed foods with a lot of chemical additives are unhealthy. Produce & grains are sprayed with glyphosate and other pesticides. Cut down on these poisons and the body can heal. Low carb diets eliminate a lot of toxic food. Ruminant animals with 4-chambered stomachs (cows, lamb, deer) are able to process out a lot of these harmful substances that may be fed to them.

Gaslight, taunting, and pushing all the blame on patients for a medication they never asked to be prescribed on from the first place when thing goes south and worst of all, "forced" to be taken off the medication either on a fast to virtually no taper schedule,leaving us as patients suffering the agony of mind torturing withdrawal symptoms, we are literally at the mercy of some unethical and greedy doctors. I'm glad we have some doctors like Dr. Josef, who comes out and speaks up. Medical systems across the globe need to do something.

This is a great interview. To add a bit to it, I think that what doesn't get mentioned enough, is that the 1980 move toward a disease-model of psychiatry, is openly called "neo-Kraepelinian" psychiatry by its practitioners. Emil Kraepelin, of course, was the inventor of Nazi eugenics, and was the teacher of the better known Ernst Rudin who actually carried out the vast eugenics campaigns of Nazi Germany. American psychiatrists of today -literally- refer to Kraepelin as the "Patron Saint" of their profession, and unironically call themselves Neo-Kraepelinians. Kraepelin wanted to rid the world of, "poets, dreamers, gypsies, and Jews." Psychiatrists of today consider this man a hero, and are not taught that he invented Nazi eugenics. It is one of a million things that young psychiatrists are not taught.
That is just wild! What a bizarre connection. You should write a book or make a movie about this. It certainly explains how things have shaped up the way it is going nowadays.

Dr. Ewott, it seems you have some knowledge about this. While it's true that Emil Kraepelin made significant contributions to psychiatry or so we are taught-- the rest of the story is never taught! Personally, I entered this field with idealistic and nye-naive aspirations to serve the underserved without the whole context and i didn't understand why psychiatry was so criticized by other fields in medecine before this. However, upon beginning residency, I was confronted with the stark realities of the profession. Residency has led me to experience the greatest personal and professional crisis of my life. Currently, I feel trapped in residency due to trauma responses-- freezed in residency-- due to the field, doubting my ability to complete such a challenging specialty and earn the title of psychiatrist. These doubts persist even after four years. Despite advocating for a paradigm shift in the profession, it appears unlikely to happen. What advice would you offer me in this situation?

My name is Drew Ott, not Dr Ewott, and I’m amused that you thought I was a physician, because I’m actually an incorrectly-diagnosed “schizophrenic” who’s been fully recovered without meds or a shrink for 6+ years now.
However if you can keep listening, you’ve actually asked the right guy, as I work in marketing, and I’ve been thinking about psychiatrists career issues for 10 years, as well as lurking psychiatry forums where they discuss money and career.
You have two big career obstacles ahead of you. The first is getting your starter job in a group practice that is usually a pill mill where you will have little say over how patients are handled ethically. Your main metric will be “customer lifetime value,” and most likely your employer will encourage you to overdiagnose since that’s how you get customers.
Most psychiatrists are scared to “make the leap” to a solo practice, because they’re unsure how to run a business. Let me encourage you that this is the easiest “leap” in the business world, as there is supposedly a mental health crisis, a shortage of psychiatrists, you have a legal monopoly on drugs, and you’re backed by billions of dollars of free propaganda money by the pharmaceutical industry. It is the easiest business to start in the entire world, so I’ve always been shocked to see psychiatrists discussing how scared they are to go out on their own.
Once you go out on your own, your new obstacle (the second one) is going to be liability. If you want to run a practice based on ethics, you are going to have to walk a tightrope regarding legal liability. Anything you do that’s outside the “standard of care” is something a patient can sue you for if something happens to them later. For example if someone comes in saying they’re sad, and you don’t recommend them antidepressants, and then they complete s*icide, their family could potentially sue you. But! If someone comes in, says they’re fine, you diagnose them with depression and prescribe antidepressants, and THEN they complete s*icide, now you’re safe from lawsuit because you were just following the standard of care.
By being an anti-psychiatry, ethical psychiatrist, you’re basically up against lawsuits in a big way because you aren’t protected by your profession’s ridiculous control of the legal system.
It seems to me that some psychiatrists such as Dr Josef are able to pull off this new business model. Focus on de-prescribing, tell patients the truth, actually listen to them, and actually help them. It’ll be a little riskier and you’ll be carving a new path, but as far as I can tell, it’s the only way possible for a psychiatrist to fulfill their aspirations to serve the underserved.
I would also say, if a patient doesn’t have any reason to come back and keep seeing you, tell them that and accept that you may lose a customer. The fee-per-appointment business model of psychiatrists is abusive when the psychiatrist doesn’t inform you that you aren’t required to keep returning. If this means you might make $250k a year instead of $400k, so be it.

By rights, tapering oversight should be an option for anyone who was lied to about the safety and effectiveness of the drugs, not just those with resources to pay out of pocket. We need class action lawsuits.
I had to face it on my own. I still see a doctor and lie to him that I am taking the meds because they are foreceful and he keeps saying I am worse because I need higher doses so he keeps upping my dosage. Imagine if I was taking it. Therapist tells me that pretty much therapy won't work if it's not accompanied by drugs. In fact some are even reluctant to give theraphy. I get horrified that if people dont have out of pocket money, they cant even get anyone to even talk to.
Amen to the idea of class action lawsuits! The APA is evil, in my opinion. They know they don't cure anyone but they like the big profits and staying in control of all mental health care. It's disgusting.

Also, can someone please explain why both medical doctors AND psychiatrists completely ignore oral/dental care? I mean, shouldn't the fact that an odontogenic infection can cause inflammation in the brain be enough reason to administer Augmentin and to make dentists, dental hygienists, periodontists, and oral surgeons part of the psych hospital and medical hospital staff???
They only care about and “treat” symptoms. If they find the root cause they lose a patient.
I can't take any penicillin drugs because of severe reactions. Dental care is not available for me. I'm very careful with my diet and brushing my teeth every day. Dietary issues are the cause for every single illness and disorder.
Hospital medical staff barely exist now - each of the hospitals in Niagara Falls have 2 physicians/shift. The ERs are included under this staffing - yet more staff is hardly needed, as long as disease-like Labeling and drugging is the Treatment!
They not only ignored the patient's reports of the drugs causing a problem, they responded by raising the dose.

I was prescribed Zoloft ...after two weeks on the drug I developed homicidal and suicidal thoughts ....when I disclosed this to my so called doctor, he raised the dose . From that day on I never trusted a psychiatrist.

I grew up I’m the 60’s early 70s with my mum always on antidepressants & other mental health drugs. I wish I could go back as a doctor to really help my precious mum. About 9 years ago my kids stepsister had a beautiful baby and I heard she was suffering from post postpartum depression. I warned anyone who would listen this could be serious and should not be left to a young father and her “doctor” (I believe the doctor was her primary. ) a few weeks after being p prescribed antidepressants she took her own life. Even though I was detached from their family I was mortified. I remember myself going through a postpartum and Thank God did not have to go on antidepressants from a doctor that could have been clueless. Since then I believe hormones, such as progesterone can help with postpartum and other types of depression. Hormones can be 1 life preserver even for one poor soul that is suffering.
Mozart's sister did not suffer from depression - since her aesthetic Training was Prenatal. Her mother was a violinist, who constantly played Leopold's music! / All of us can take up Talent Training, as offered by Peter Breggin, Madan Katara, Howard Glasser and the Sukuki School of Violin!
Long story short - 10 years ago my doctor took me off effexor cold turkey!! What followed was a very prolonged horrific nightmare. Beyond anything I even knew was possible. It's a pity that it takes decades before people are wise enough to learn how incompetent and corrupt the system actually is.

I so love you guys and all those that are speaking out about what is happening with taking psych drugs and benzo's etc...we are getting a new Dr here in NZ for my son because the other one there was a conflict of interest he threatened my son years ago and will not give on a lot of issues but in saying that the other Dr is older and stayed in his view am guessing with the staunch view of meds and psych way of doing things...will be praying...10 years coming up and no change, no getting better...I even asked a nurse what is the definition of getting better and he walked away...you guys with Dr Peter Breggin and others are legends as mentioned...❤❤
As a future psychiatrist, I increasingly feel disheartened by the current state of psychiatry. Despite the demand for treatment and support from patients, there's a pressing need for change. It's saddening to learn that fear is preventing many individuals from seeking help from psychiatrists.

A good friend of mine ended up getting very sick. He had bizarre symptoms like stuttering vision, extended episodes of pacing, inability to initiate normal tasks, nonsensical thoughts etc etc. He ended up going to the hospital and they wanted to put him thru as a mental patient, but he said he really didn't think it was a psychiatric issue. After he was bounced around a bunch someone finally listened to him and reservedly offered a trial of steroids. Turns out he had some kind of encephalitis!

Those f****** put me on Prozac for 6 years and it precipitated an addiction to some other types of substances that I don't want to mention here because everything is monitored and judged by the eye of sauron. It wasn't until I hit rock bottom and started reading the books by Abraham Hicks that I realized my thoughts were the causes of my emotions and my emotions were the cause of my actions. And my beliefs are just thoughts I think, so to change my thought patterns I need to change my beliefs and that takes practice and discipline and some time but it works and it did, and now I'm a free man.

The psychiatric industry is profit driven and turned me into a drug dependant zombie. My issues, by and large, came from childhood trauma (poverty, mother addicted to alcohol and nicotine, etc) and married to a man with autism (not diagnosed until 2009, despite seeing 30 + psychologists/psychiatrists from 1980 (what a coincidence)). Instead of advice to leave dysfunctional relationship, with two children and stressful job, I was doped up on prescription antidepressants. I met 3 "good" ones, but, it is the most disgusting industry. Ninety per cent of my issues were (and are) situational.
* I got off the final antidepressant in 2011 (from 1991). Last one Effexor-SR. First an MAO (Aurorix?), then SSRIs including Zoloft, Citalopram and probably others along the way (memory issues, many of those years forgotten). Never heard of PSSD until now. Explains a lot.

My head is exploding with ideas. I’m a licensed counselor and have worked in community mental health for years. Here’s a big thing: psychiatrists stopped being therapists. As that happened the field opened to other professionals who are disposed to caring about life events, feelings and all the thing’s associated with surrounding stories that make up a person’s life. Psychiatrist have become remote, detached figures. I tend to recognize psychiatric nurse practitioners. I think this is because they are better listeners and more current and aware. I also wonder if there are significant difference in personality and priorities in mental health counselors and psychiatric versus a person who leans toward medical careers. Multi-factorial issue.
Ethical, Standard of Care psychiatrists - for their Rules Based Order!
You make a keen observation. Essentially, you're questioning whether there's a disparity in behavior between someone with a three or four-year degree versus someone with a 12 to 15-year degree. In essence, doctors are akin to soldiers, trained to think within a certain framework and discouraged from questioning the system. Would you risk being expelled from residency for challenging the system? Who would shoulder their $300k medical debt? This is compounded by financial and insurance pressures to swiftly diagnose and medicate. Nurses and therapists don't have all these pressures!

I would love to see a journalist investigate how many suicides in this country have a history of antidepressant exposure-whether it be short term, long term, tapered to sudden and rapid withdrawal. I would put money on the fact that most suicides today as well as the increase in suicides is directly and absolutely related to antidepressants. But money is more important than human life so I’m sure we’ll never see that investigation not to mention the fact that big Pharma owns our information highway.and too much money is at stake -the criminal priority of putting profit before people and human life is sickening. And how warped the mental health establishment has become is beyond mind boggling. And if the pharmaceutical agencies believe there could be an inkling of this to come out, they’ll just use more coercion to silent any form of dissent or information that doesn’t support their narrative. This is some of the most egregious criminal activity out there. Harming people in the name of helping them and profiting from not just the negligence of but purposeful destruction of the whistle blower whether it be the ethical doctor, outspoken family member or “difficult” patient. How we got here is group think at its worst and reflects a side of humanity that can make one easily lose hope in how we will ever get out of this mess especially now that we’re sunk so deep in. Whitaker and this doctor are small but brilliant rays of hope-it would behoove us to support them and follow their lead. But it will take us coming forward in numbers speaking out collectively to change it, I don’t believe there’s any other way.

They now say people are dying of natural causes because it's easier than excepting they haven't seen the actual suicide attempt. psychiatrists also continue to deny that all medications have no relationship to suicide. trainee psychiatrist here: the best psychiatrists, the wisest, are specialists in psychotherapy. the drugs are crap, especially long term. i used sertraline myself with initial success, but after a few years the sexual side effects led have seem to have culminated in PSSD and chronic anhedonia. the only thig that has worked a little for me is psychotherapy, exercise, gardening and meditation. a good psychotherapist is worth their weight in gold.
As a trainee psychiatrist you won't be taught to cure anyone, just suppress patients' symptoms until they die. I used the "orthomolecular" approach to taper my relative off of THREE DAILY antipsychotic drugs. It took 4 months but his mental health was restored.The APA has been FIGHTING restorative treatment for at least 80 years. Now I know a second approach that is also wonderful. -Linda from YT, "Linda Van Zandt's Mental Health Recovery Channel."

Even if you do have a legitimate disorder , Medication rarely if even fixes it . But it can make things so much worse , on top of dealing with your disorder .I think there needs to be more hands-on help and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy . Learning about your embracing your talents , then addressing your obstacles .. Nero- divergent ( a person who thinks differently) is a better way of looking at this , rather than Mentally Ill . Some people when they develop as people , are different in the way they think . This difference is not always an illness . It can be a gift also . Most Musicians , Scientists and Mathematicians as well as great minds in art and literature and more have traits that would qualify as a mental disorder . More than likely they were never diagnosed , and possibly that was a good thing .

Psychiatrist Harry Stack Sullivan had been given the run of Queen's Hospital during the 1950s. He would have intense conversations with a patient, to find out 2 or 3 problems he had not be able to deal with. Sullivan would help him to plan on improvements!

Psychiatry had clearly lost its way well before DSM 3. The self-interested ruse that refrigerator mothering doesn't cause autism comes to mind. Harry Harlow made monkeys autistic by feeding them from a wire mother and allowing them to seek comfort from a cloth mother (but no real monkey mother). When these monkeys matured they did not want to mate. Harlow found a way around that and I'm unsure if any of the unwanted baby monkeys of unmothered (autistic) mothers survived, and remember specifically one was killed by his mother eating his fingers off his hands. They may have been less filicidal toward daughters though I don't think the experiment replicated the human social phenomena responsible for the four times higher prevalence of autism in males (maternal daddy issues). This is strongly analogous though to social pressure on developmentally challenged women to secure their futures not entering the dating pool as women who don't want to be mothers. The recklessness of subjecting their unborn children to a "genetic" risk of unknown severity speaks to their developmental immaturity (magical thinking) and taught (environmentally acquired) uncivilized moral savagery. Clear (to me anyway) the so-called "dark empath" = one part autistic low cognitive empathy + one part autistic high affective empathy + some circumstance like unwanted (particularly single) parenthood or intellectual disability. Regardless of disability surely few are better-positioned to abuse more-mercilessly than single parents of only children. Babytrapping monsters like my mother are in-part one consequence of Medicine obfuscating autism's etiology.
Guess what else? Diogenes syndrome is adult autistic regression in undiagnosed untreated ASD L1 without intellectual disability. Think about it. The Collyer Brothers (hermits of Harlem) were autistic. Nietzsche too. That wasn't schizophrenia or dementia coming out of his bedroom to which his sister took him out of the sanitarium and CHARGED PEOPLE ADMISSION to listen in her living room.
Diogenes self-neglect is a psychiatric sequela of the maternal emotional neglect that causes autism. The deterioration of executive function is a neurological sequela of pruned motor neurons, which are themselves a sequela of neglect. The genome's been sequenced for over a dozen years. Behavioral heritability within families will of course appear "genetic" to people who take no accountability (like the refrigerator mothers who ANNOUNCED they were ASD's etiology when they stopped bringing their children for treatment rather than wanting to find out how to be better mothers).
Quite clearly the kids who stop making eye contact do so for finding no delight in their mothers' faces and echolalia is the perseveration of failures to flatter her into games of simon says. Continuing to point to genetic aftermath trying to misrepresent it somehow as an etiological perturbation is as preposterously obscene as o.j. continuing to look for the real killer but far more unconscionable.

People tend to mix up a lot with this topic. Also vaccines do not cause autism, yet, they may cause symptoms that look like autism, for example. Huge confusion what is autism and what not, even among professionals. Some of them are on the spectrum and don't realize it. 😂
Exactly. In my observation and anecdotal experience, there is a genetic predisposition of the inheritance of autistic style of behaviour. Some people just are not "into a heavily social, must appear empathetic, support the latest cause and conformist lifestyle" that has become increasingly the expectation of our society. How they are raised will influence their ability to interact with the broader society. So much of the rise in autism lies in lost nurturing (as well as diet). Babies as young as 3 months in day care. Look at the studies of babies in orphanages in Czechoslovakia (? Country) in 1980s. And then we're supposed to believe the nonsense it's all genetically predetermined to relieve the parent's guilt.

Imagine living in a world where we needed large scale studies to coherently describe alcohol intoxication.
The entire school of psych.. never found it's way. It's unscientific, you prescribe different things until you give up, usually not following any sense. I treat myself successfully, meanwhile, everyone I know is switching meds up multiple times every year.

I work in a psychiatric inpatient facility, where we have people presenting in acute psychosis. Many of these patients do not get better without treatment, in fact, they end up admitted involuntary due to discontinuing psychotropic medications. Maybe you both should volunteer and work in such facilities? Or, provide your contact information so we can send these patients to you so that you can offer the non medication treatment and then give us your outcomes. Where can the population find you?
What a load of nonsense. You know why many end up admitted involuntarily when they stop their psychotropic medications?. Because of the severe withdrawal symptoms not their so called "mental illness", there is no such thing as mental illness. Mental illness is created and induced by psychiatrists. They NEVER get better on these drugs they always get worse. Those are facts you are clearly in denial of.

i witnessed a patient have a terrible reaction to a mix of two prescribed anti-depressants.
It's the way medicine is practice, just take drugs. I wish we focussed on diet, holistic practices etc. I'm a psych nurse and the mess are horrible. The patients stack on the weight but never get better
