People are always harping on the v6. It was rated 254hp. The mustang gt 4.6 was rated at 260 for that year. The fact is that no one else built anything like it. This is a very cool car.
This ones in instant classic, I remember seeing alot of these when they were released, now its a rare sight. The design is incredible, very unconventional, more car companies should take such a leap.
That was actually really neat, considering at first I was like ooh it's trinagular in a way. But It's really cool, and sounds amazing. It's kind of a throwback to the hot rod cars from the 40's I think.
Holy crap! I forgot these cars existed!! It's so badass looking and definitely one of the most unique cars out there. I'd love to drive one and see how it felt considering the shape and style.Thank you for videoing one Kyle, I now know a lot more about it! You're the man!!
Actually, the 3.5 was a great motor. My family's had 2 cars powered by that engine and neither one ever missed a beat. You're thinking of the 2.7L Mitsubishi V6 used by Chrysler, which was never used in the Prowler. It was famously used in the Dodge Stratus and Dodge Intrepid though.
I bought my dream car new in 2001, Pontiac Firebird. I know longer have it due to my husband, said he couldn't get in and out of good. I regret every selling it. But, If I had he bucks now, I'd be trying to buy one of these beauties!
Now that is one mean looking car with it's "evil grin" and it's headlights. I can actually picture Kelly from RID driving one of these cars while wearing a witch costume. I would also picture the Night Prowler himself driving this car. For those of you who don't know, The Night Prowler was a short that was done by Cinemassacre. It's a shame that you can no longer see it. I know it's not Halloween, but this car does look pretty darn scary. Even if it does look scary, it's still one of the most unique cars in history. It paved way for the Volkswagen New Beetle, the ugly Chrysler PT Cruiser, the newer Mini Cooper and other retro futuristic styled cars. This car is a also part of 90's culture and that's why I like it. You may remember seeing this car in Cruis'n: Exoitca (The Arcade version, not the N64 version).
I remember when these first came out I was all amazed and crap about these cars but now that I got a look at the interior it looks like any other Chrysler with the exception of the gauge cluster setup. I've only walked or drove by these cars when I saw them in person but never really got a look in the interior.
I really love this car if I could find one I would have bought it. I ended up with a SRT-6 Chrysler Crossfire the only thing I hate about it is the drivetrain Diamler forced on chrysler. Both awesome cool looking cars.
Theres only 2 of these in my city, ones bright yellow and the other is a dark maroon, one is an older model maybe 97, the other is a 2001. I love these cars, I still wish I could get one
actually, the 2.7L V6 was Designed in house by "DaimlerChrysler", the Engine YOU are thinking of is the 3.0L Mitsubishi V6 used in the Stratus and Sebring Coupes, which were pretty much Mitsubishi Eclipses with Chrysler Body Panels. the 2.7 was the Unfortunate Recipient of Extreme Cost Cutting by the Daimler-Benz German Bean Counters, and its Reliability suffered dearly for it.
@yamahonkawazuki The Prowler used Chrysler's A606 Automatic transmission. It's the same tranny used in the LH sedans (300M/Concorde/Intrepid). In the Prowler, the tranny is mounted in the REAR of the car. That's the transmission oil pan you see back there.
@macbookpro57 Yeah it was a Chrysler brand. During the 60's & 70's it was like a performance car brand and competed against Pontiac. But during the 90's most Plymouth's became re-badged Dodges. Like the Plymouth Neon, and Plymouth Breeze, which was the same thing as the Chrysler Cirrus and Dodge Stratus.
@blaknite1 did you notice what looked like an oil pan underneath the rear of the car? when he was back there. any idea what it was. ( could see it between the driveshafts)
Haha nice I can't believe you found a Prowler. I remember when they came out I was like 13yrs old or something. Everyone wanted one. They was selling them for over 3x the price at launch. They looked cool still do I think. Too bad they got rid of them. Was nice while it lasted though. NOW I'm really pissed when I found out they where getting rid of the Viper! Urgh I hate you Mopar. lol
no. The PT Cruiser used a variant of the Dodge Neon's engine. The PT never had a V6. This V6 was shared with Chrysler's luxury full size sedans of the time, the Chrysler Concorde, 300M, LHS, Dodge Intrepid, and such.
I have one exactly like this one. I bought it this past Labor Day weekend. Coincidentally it too had 17K miles. I'm debating about taking off the front bumpers. I need to get visors (mine are missing). Stereo system is so-so, but it might have to do with very old speakers. I've had a total ball driving it.

This car shares interior parts with the Dodge Stratus, Chrysler Cirrus and Plymouth Breeze. Hard to think of it as sporty with those mid sized reminders floating around.
I also loved these things, especially in purple with the trailer hitch you could buy for it as well. This is the first time I've seen the interior of one, and I have to say apart from the gauge cluster, the interior looks like any other late 90's American car, sadly.
it was made to bring back the hot rod craze from the 1950's its a good looking car but it has some intresting flaws it had a v6 (not traditional V8) and very loud for a V6 it has no trunk space so forget the cross country tour (however they did make an attatchment pack for it that allowed for more space but i don't know how it would effect the convertable part) also the roof was interesting because later models had manuel roofs but earlier one had automatics never the less its still cool
It only had a small boot but an optional trailer (yeah, seriously) that looked just like the back of the car was an option for largely increased trunk space.
People are always harping on the v6. It was rated 254hp. The mustang gt 4.6 was rated at 260 for that year. The fact is that no one else built anything like it. This is a very cool car.
hatebreed79 untill the ssr was made
These 3.5 were in dodge intrepids and also Chrysler concords
Chris Yarber as well as the Chrysler 300M
hatebreed79 ni
Look at the cobalt ss turbocharged . 4 cylinder 2.0liter whit 265 hp
Everyone who says it's ugly clearly has no sense of design or taste. It's very well done.
Collin Herold Double chin car
Says the guy that likes a Double chinned car lol
and they drive honda civics
Its ugly af lmao
@@paulstark4923 you drive a toyota corolla. lmao
tbh the fact this is a Plymouth makes it cool because it was unexpected from them

I think this was everyones favourite car when I was a kid.

philip danielsson you're thinking of the ford indigo concept.. now that was cool
maximaman380 Oh yeah you're right. That looks so awesome!
Ima search it up
Coolest car ever made, growing up every kid in the nineties wanted one
Freakin' awesome video Kyle! I LOVE Prowlers, it's definitely one of my dream cars lol!
This car looks so sleek and so nice.
Insanely interesting design for a production car.
They used Jay Leno's face as a template for the front end
uh yeah says the guy with hank hill as my profile pic
I sort of see it but not much
Near the end of the production of this vehicle, they actually had the 4.7 v8 as an option. I'd love to have that one.
This car looks so interesting. I like the look. But it's so low to the ground. But it's a cool concept. Original.
I'd love to see an updated rerelease of this beautiful car. Particularly taking care of that garish interior.
Such an oddball... I love it
My dad's friend imported one of these into Australia and I got to have a look around it. Very interesting vehicle!
The only car with a chin.
What about a pt cruiser or Chevy hhs

and this shared an era with the remarkable plymouth voyager. LONG LIVE THE VOYAGER.
That is a great sounding v6
Amazing car ! So classy and special
THIS car started the all-so-famous retro style that would last even to today! :D
very unique car, thanks for the full in and out review kyle.

This is so funny, i searched your channel for one of these last week!!! Thanks :D
The song starting at 7:17 on the radio was "Voodoo" by Godsmack, for those of you who were curious. I don't know about the second song though.
"Jumper" by Third Eye Blind
it looks like nigel thornberry
heh, you're right.
Hey kyle thanks for uploading this. I'm glad you were able to find one.
Dean
I remember this was great fun to drive as a rally car in Gran Turismo 4.
this is the first time you have featured a Plymouth on your channel. looks nice! :)
I really like this car. I really want to own one in the future.
Sounds AWSOME for a v6!
Your lucky to see this car! I only seen 2 of these in my home town.
I just always have loved that car
im a 80's kid and i still want one.
HOLY CRAP!!...i want that car :(

Gotta tour 'em all!!!

Thank You For The Videos. From Argentine 🤗
i nevere like the prowler interior but has good performance thumbs up!
dear GOD I miss my intrepid- It had the same engine, same stereo, same gauges and exhaust note.
Cool ride by definition!👍⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
thank you for the very good upload
I was wrong, thanks for correcting. I forgot the PT never had a v6, but the full sizes did^^
the beautiful car in the world
90's car love!
Nice I always wanted a prowler
I really love this car if I could find one I would have bought it. I ended up with a SRT-6 Chrysler Crossfire the only thing I hate about it is the drivetrain Diamler forced on chrysler. Both awesome cool looking cars.
The name of this car REALLY suits it.
Cool! I have a video of a 1999 one in yellow as well, it will have to be searched up on my channel, though.

It has the speedometer in the middle like the Mini Cooper"s.
I love this car !
@blaknite1 wasnt sure. but could this engine had a dry sump system? aka an oil cooler. or perhaps something to cool the lube in the rear dif?

That soft top is quite complicated. Chrysler should have taken some lessons from Mazda.
there was one of these at teh greensboro auction last time. kinda raggedy looking but still it was black sounded quite lovely
lol Prowler was my first scale model :) That's great car :D
Great video great car!
this car is crazy
I loved this car when i was like 7.
What is that radiator looking thing in the back? A transmission cooler or an AC condensor?

someone in the uk has one of these painted a deep purple colour and it has the silly safety bumpers removed and a 6.1 hemi viper engine fitted :)

it has no trunk space so forget the cross country tour (however they did make an attatchment pack for it that allowed for more space but i don't know how it would effect the convertable part)
also the roof was interesting because later models had manuel roofs but earlier one had automatics
never the less its still cool
will it fit though?....engine compartment looks tight even with the Stock 3.5L V6.
@Forgoten214 yea its on allpar. they said it will most likely use the v10 and maybe have a 6.4 hemi option
My Dad has one of these with 3500 miles, suprisingly has the same engine as my chrysler 300m.
This Car is Silver
It only had a small boot but an optional trailer (yeah, seriously) that looked just like the back of the car was an option for largely increased trunk space.
awesome car
Nice looking cars. Strange that they used a V6. At least they tried to up the horsepower from the standard V6 a bit.
hey kyle, what do you actually do for a job? just curious!
It’s a beauty
@saabkyle04 Do you have a ford lightning on your channel? I havent seen it yet
Thanks!!!
:D
are those gauges hard to read at that angle?
does it come with an extra transmission in the trunk. boy I had my share of luck with these newer dodges
I usually don't like convertibles, but this could be an exception.
my old neigbor had one of these... it was so fun
