    I just bought a Suzuki 9.9 drove 1.5hrs to get it , never thought to ask the shaft length but it’s a 24” 😂 , that’s way to long for my job boat so thank you for making this video I will be doing this over the weekend

      It should do well for a 9.9 for sure

      @@mvboutdoors I have the 14’x42 alumcraft the transom is only like 15” so I think I’ll have to jack the motor up at least 6” to just get it where it should be

    Great video very informative and straight to the point. Few questions.. did it really make a difference after you raised the plate at the same length as the setback? Does it really need to be the same? Or was it just a trim position issue?

    I like your videos just wish there was a little more detail. Is that 1/2 plywood you're using? What dimensions are the plywood pieces?

    • @mvboutdoors

      I measured about 4 in wider than the mounting bracket for the outboard, and that way there would be enough room for the bolts without contacting the bracket. Different outboards have different bracket sizes, but you can use that as a reference.

    Why did you build that black jig , rather just using the original transom ?

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  2 года назад +4

      I wanted to raise the motor out of the water some for better performance and move the motor back for extra clearance of the tiller handle.

    Looks great. A couple questions before I begin my bracket build:
    1. Is 1/8” angle beefy enough? Pretty much every other builder in every other video I’ve seen uses 1/4”. I only have a 5hp, so I was curious if I could go down in material thickness like you did and still be ok.
    2. What screw size did you use? You mentioned screw length, but I don’t know if I heard you mention diameter.

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  2 года назад +1

      1/8 was strong enough for the 9.9hp so with a 5hp I'd feel confident. No flex at all, very secure. I didn't have 1/4 available locally but I didn't regret the 1/8.
      I used 3/8 bolts, 1/4 was too thin imo.

      @seandrake7534 Год назад

      I was wondering the same thing but with a 5 hp i would think you would be good but I’m putting a 40 on mine and I’m going 1/4 but if you think about it where everything is bolted together it’s 1/4 inche anyway and the plywood should more then take care of the rest

    Make a Straight line from bottom of boat to top of prop will give you best performance

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  2 года назад

      Are you referring to centering the motor on the transom or adjusting the height?

    • @claytonfowler857
      @claytonfowler857 2 года назад

      @@mvboutdoors adjusting height , should be a metal fin above prop make bottom of it level with bottom of boat with a level and will be spot on for running

    • @mvboutdoors
      @mvboutdoors  2 года назад +3

      @@claytonfowler857 That works if there's no setback but it doesn't work when you move the motor back off the transom. The pivot point of the motor changes and when the boat planes it dunks the motor further under the water than if it was right on the transom. The cav plate needs to be higher than flush with the bottom with a setback.

    Technically u built a motor bracket not a Jack plate. A Jack plate is adjustable up and down

    That’s going to kill u if it breaks…..even ones u buy can break and motor will fly into your boat search it up …wouldn’t recommend this…..maybe for these small dinky boats it’s ok
