- Sonic 2 CD Remix is a hack with the goal of including various characters and gameplay elements from Sonic CD, whilest "Remixing" these gameplay elements by tweaking and adding extra elements to them. It's most prominent feature is implementing Time Travel into the Sonic 2 zones, but it has since extended well beyond it's original goal, adding new gameplay elements, 3 extra characters, new abilities, a host of options, 2 bosses, and more! This build is a demo with 4 playable zones, and all the options that have been created thus far. Made by Pacca

Sonic 2 meets Sonic CD! This is pretty cool, and with the addition of Amy, and the time travel gimmick from CD, I really like how it has music fitting the versions of each Zone, too! Past, Present, Good and Bad Futures of each Zone all look and sound distinct from each other, which is great.

This would be a perfect ROM hack which showcases what would've happened if Sonic 2's and Sonic CD's development didn't split.
Razor & Zenon, what you two do with code blows me away.
Keep on bringing us the remixes and even an original or two; Small touches like that can take a ROM real far.

@@flatwormexit It's actually more along the lines of, like, they were going to have the time feature in 2 but scrapped it and eventually came up with CD and decided to dump the mechanic there. Saying it was split like S3&K kind of sounds like they were gonna be one big game, which is near impossible

I don't think the mechanic was around on 2 enough to affect Sonic 2's stages. It was just one of the ideias which were being tossed out during development of both.
That switcharoo with the Death Egg Zone act 1, and that awesome remix, was perfect.

Yeah, graphics could use some more work, but I'm not sure if the hack will be finished in it's basic form, let alone a full CD-styled remaster with custom graphics for every time period.

Yup, it is planned. In fact, there is minimal Sonic 1 support in the game currently, but it's inaccessible in the demo.

Sonic 1 was planned to be in market but Cd got to it instead cause S1 Cd was scrapped.
Well damn this is exactly how I pictured Sonic 2 Special Edition would of been for the SegaCD had the project didn't involve into Sonic CD.
This must have been a nightmare to program... or, maybe not! xD I like this though especially the soundtracks for the different time zones.
It was actually pretty fun to make ^w^ took over 9 months of on and off work though X3

Metal sonic vs sonic race in death egg zone 1 is an awesome idea. A callback to the original with a twist. Also, sonic cheats. He falls on some spikes but doesnt stumble or anything, he just hits the ground running full speed lol.
Also, where are the good future zones? They are probably works-in-progress i guess, Unless future is always screwed like silvers lol.

The rest of death egg zone reminds me of Genocide City Zone from Sonic 2 Delta
This had many of my votes in the SHC. It's a shame the hack placed low, but I think that's partly due from of the lack of advertising for it. On the outside it looks like a generic sonic 2 hack, but on the inside, it's probably one of the most complex rom hacks ever done.

I’m really hoping they use the time travel mechanic in a similar way to how the original game would’ve used it (eg: Wood Zone is Metropolis Past).

The detail of the background disappearing when underwater (underwater Emerald Hill FTFW!!) is a really nice touch! I hate it when usual fan games and hacks add water and you can still see the mountains and waterfalls, etc.
This looks like it’s shaping up to be my favorite hack ever! Can’t wait to try it out. At this rate Metal Sonic might have his own move set from CD? :o

That genesis remix of the act 2 theme of the OOZ from Mania is FUCKING GIVING ME EARGASMS.
I hope Pacca will publish those soundtracks on RUclips soon.
Also, i really like how the BF of OOZ is based on the act 2 from Mania.

I Didn't Even Know That They Added Amy and Metal Sonic Into this ROM Hack!
Fact: Sonic 2 was originally gonna have time travel, like Sonic CD. But it was scrapped due to time constraints.
I like this mod/hack. But I want every zone to be in the game in different timelines. What I mean is that a zone's future/past would be a completely different zone. Example: emerald hill zone's past is aquatic ruins zone, its bad future is chemical plant zone and its good future is wood zone. Next zone is mystic cave zone. Its
past is hidden palace zone, its bad future is oil ocean zone, its good future is hill top zone, next zone is metropolis zone, its past is casino night zone, its bad future is genocide/cyber city zone, its good future is dust hill zone. Next zone is sky chase and so on and so on.
As much as I'd want to like that, that zone-type mentality won't work on the Genesis, I don't think.

I think it's pretty great, considering all of that went into this hack. They really care about it and it''s admirable. Shocks me that many of the stuff was programmed successfully too. As good as it may be,it does play it too safe. The past and future feels like it's just recolored with a small gimmick.
I thought maybe at least have some tiles for the past to be grassy or something in oil ocean. It just feels too similar, and even though I like the gimmick in the future as well, it just feels to close to the present.
It would've been so hilarious to see the ending cut scene but with metal sonic instead.

Fun lil' fact: RRZ 2Fest is the fastest sonic ability setup. A setup a speedrunner dreams was in the normal games

@@jckstudios7693 in the game you can customise Sonic’s abilities and speed. RRZ refers to a setup with a fast dash attack, 2Fest refers to the max speed without ice physics.
Funny, last time i checked, hill top was the past of emerald hill and cbemical plant was the bad future, also to note that dust hill was the ruin time present.
Possible reason why past emerald hill was full of water : Many species were not there but egg man had went to the past and put robots and not much species there used water so that makes it watery

There was no oil in that past version, so nothing to stop them from wrecking the submarine. Which shouldn't even be there without oil or at least water.

The Speed Shoes in Emerald Hill Past is the same tempo as the Present Emerald Hill.

That’s how it was in Sonic CD. There was past, present, bad future, and good future. All that really changed was music, color, and some level gimmicks.
Fun fact a developer confirmed that there was 5 timelines in sonic 2 at one point before it was scrapped

theres a rather large difference between fighting robotnik in the bad future and any other time.
in the bad future it doesn't matter what you do, robotnik has already won and you're just bothering him
the good future feels more like he already lost but he thinks he still has some kind of chance
in the present its just another tuesday
in the past its another tuesday but with different colors
