Ok so I have to make an isometric drawing for a class, where we had access to a tutorial that you otherwise had to pay money for if I wasn’t a student. It was confusing garbage, but this is so much better and actually FREE. thank you much for this.
IF you're wondering like me, what's with the most specific 57.74% thing, it's the rounded value for tan(30deg) which is 0.57735... apparently. In isometric projection, it seems that the grid (corner) itself takes 120 degrees, which leaves both sides equally 30 degrees each on a flat horizontal line. I probably didn't explain it superb, so search for "isometric projection" if you want to read in detail!
The isometric style was one of my first passions when starting with illustrator back in the days, but it always seemed like a very advanced style to follow - but this video made it so clear and simple to not just follow along but to make anything in the isometric style. Thank you so much for sharing Satori, I will go back to it once again after all this years for sure after watching this

Hi, thanks for your video. I have a question, Why do you put that weird percentage? I mean, bc it is a non-common number. There is a reason to put 57.74%?
This is nice, but there's a faster way to draw in isometric, at least in my workflow. I use actions that I've created, and these actions convert objects in to ISO left, top/bottom, or right view, and reverses it in another action.
This really helps out a lot but I seem to facing a bit of a problem. My file is not reading this grid made as the grid and snapping the pen points to its preset grid (which is slightly offset from the intersecting points on our isometric grid made here). Can you suggest something for me here please? I'm fairly new at this ...
No offense to you, this comment is very generic to Isometric designs using Illustrator. I think Blender is a better tool to make Isometric design as the purpose is to make it 3D. Use 3D software instead. and blender is way easier to learn. everyone here, please give it a try you will love it. :) Peace. #Blender
Cool video, nice to know these new technics. Also i think the shadow ontop of the Table should not allign with the shadow on the floor, because the table has a different height. Equal the shadow from the roof must be more on thr table. 😁
I don't know, if I follow and start drawing it creates this weird offset of the points in the grid, and then, everything is drawn a little bit to the left... not sure why?
Thanks for replying mr satori, another problem, my pen tool is not snapping right at the grid. Did you have solution? I thought this about my preference settings :(
Hey I had the same issue, CC 2018. What i discovered is that if you use the Transform window within the Properties window, you got to press the three dots on the down right of Transform window ("More options" button) you'll see a very simular window with same fields but with a few more options. And if you enter the percentage there it will work. Basically the right Transform window has to have the "Shear" field with a sloped rectangle, and two checkboxes like the man in the video has. Hope it helps. I see no logic in it though. I'm still a newbie.
