He has pro bowlers all over the defense. He even has what is considered one of the top young OC’s in the league. Yeah, Staley is a bad coach, but bad coaching doesn’t make him throw deep ball picks when he has two minutes and a few timeouts and needs one score…

The chargers have name talent, but not football talent. D is 31st in yards allowed & 25th in pts. They're 16th in rushing (yds & avg), right in the middle of the league. Their pass block win rate is at 49%, which is 25th in the NFL. Idk what's happening at the end of games though.

The truth about Herbert is his teams defense has ranked last in the league and he’s done more than enough to win a lot of the games. Not once will you hear anyone discuss the unreal amount of injuries or the team giving up the most passing yards per game in league history. Outside of a handful of guys, no QB could carry the chargers very far

That's Kellen Moore. Kellen is great at designing and calling plays. But he's not good at calling plays in succession. He has zero feel for the flow of the game.
No other top 7 QB has to play with a bottom 5 defense and a bottom 5 head coach. That’s a lot to overcome.
Matt Ryan did for years... He took a 27th ranked defense to the Superbowl (despite 28-3)... He constantly had to win game with god awful defenses and average coaching for years and he did what he could for the most part... The excuses for Herbert is crazy

I like Herbert and hope he turns it around. But as it stands right now, Acho is correct. Herbert looks lost, produced enough wins, and his stats have rapidly declined. Plus, he's making poor decisions like trying to force tight window throws to Allen into double coverage when he has other receivers who are wide open. As Acho says, he just doesn't have the IT factor. Hopefully that changes.

Acho is right on this one. Herbert doesn't have IT, as well as many other quarterbacks in the league. Even the ones who have IT, aren't going near a super bowl anytime soon.
It’s not Herbert. Despite having no offensive line, terrible defense, no running game and a terrible coach making bad calls he still pulls off some wins. When you look back at his amazing performance against the Raiders last year he tried so hard to break through the historic failures of the Chargers and his team plus his coach let him down. Pig in pink just doesn’t like Herbert so she takes every opportunity to bash him. She compares him to Russel Wilson losing, give me a break, never compare Herbert to Wilson, Herbert is in another class of QB’s.

But when it cones to Herbert and a roster better than the Ravens, it's not Herbert it's the team. The proof is in the pudding with all those stats and a losing record. He doesn't have that Houston Texans roster that Deshaun had. Chargers roster is a heck of a lot better. Offensive and Defensive. Wins and losses matter. Then, people will be quick to fire back. Lamar doesn't have the playoff wins or conference championship. He's been to the playoffs, but what is the context behind those losses. He got the Ravens in the playoffs before going down with the injuries. Herbert, no playoffs, no wins when it matters. He is over-rated and overpaid.

Week 6 vs Cowboys: Got pounded when he threw that pick, his receiver was an inexperienced rookie who got almost pushed out of the way by Gilmore, broken finger
Week 7 vs Chiefs: Broken finger, defense gave up 31 points
Only one of the losses this season can Herbert be the main one to blame, and even in that game, he was absolutely amazing up until the end of the game. If the Chargers defense wasn't making Ryan Tannehill look like prime Peyton Manning, Chargers win. Also would like to include that while Herbert has the most 4th quarter INTs since coming into the league, he is also tied for the most game winning drives since coming into the league.
You can blame the defense or blame the coach. But he always throws an interception when the game on the line. He doesn't have control and don't push his team to win. Sorry. You can be talented and still lose.

There was a great interview on ESPN YEARS ago on Grantland between Bill Simmons and Drew Brees. He asked how important the intangibles, things like leadership, decision making, progression reads, reading defenses, and being able to rise to the moment, were compared to physical talent. He guess it would be about 70/30 intangible vs physical. Brees scoffed and said more like 80/20. Non QB football players way too often get caught up in pure athletic ability because for basically every other position, that physical talent is KING. But for QB, from the mouth of one of the greatest ever, is maybe 20% of what they need. These things take time to develop, some can't be developed, Sam Darnold has been seeing ghosts his entire career and it does NOT matter how pretty a ball he can throw. Justin Herbert is doing what Dak Prescott has done for years, putting up a LOT of stats that look good unless you watched the game.

His coaching staff and defense sucks; no, he hasn't been particularly outstanding, but blaming him for all of the Charger's failures (which is what they're doing here) is insane.
Jay Cutler was arguably, the most talented QB in history. He could place the football anywhere he wanted on the field. But he wasn't a good QB overall.
when you're the franchise qb, the de facto leader, and the player making the most money, you get the most critique when the team loses and the most praise when the team wins. that's how it is. has the chargers defense been good? no. has there been key injuries? yes. but that's the difference between good and great qbs. the great ones can overcome the team's faults. herbert can't do that and his record is proof. acho was 100% right

Overrated isn’t abad word.. simply put it means is the player is “overrated” based on the hype from the media, or even the praise they receive (based on potential without results). Justin is Uber talented but right now overrated.. that can change but right now he is!!
It’s been 4 years
Its safe to say that the entire team has played wayyyy under par this year including Herbert. No excuses but something that I notice in those close games Acho was referring to is how bad the offensive line collapsed in the end. Ints in Herbert, sacks are on the O-line. Kinda hard to get rid of the ball in a timely manner when you're being sandwhiched by 300 lb. Linemen. But nonetheless, the whole team is just not playing well.
So we rate based on talent and potential got it! 🧐

Herbert has the same problem that Josh Allen has and even Peyton Manning would have from time to time. He tries to play hero ball and makes bad decisions trying to force the ball to do things it can't do. He does more it more than most though.

Seen something like chargers are on pace to have the worst pass defense in nfl history that’s wild. That’s putting too much pressure on the offense. Even TB12 ain’t getting a game winning drive every week. Herbert has the most game winning drives it’s soo much he can do defense needs to take pressure off him can’t be in a close game every week.
That’s crazy. I believe pat had the 31st ranked defense his first year starting and took them to the afc championship but hey Herbert is a top five qb thought.
