The ghost themed section beginning at 1:34 has some cool cultural stuff going on. Evidently this level of this game is taking place during the お盆 (obon) holiday, which happens in mid-August. At the time of the writing this, the holiday has just finished a few days ago. In the far background layer, we can see the character 天 meaning heaven on the mountainside. IRL these are huge and can be seen for miles, as the characters are comprised of burning lanterns set up on the mountainside. During お盆 it is said that the spirits of the Japanese people's ancestors visit, and the huge burning characters are there as waypoints to guide them in their journey, so that's why this ghostly level seems to be set during the festival :)
YES!!💖 ...literally nobody ever talks about this game, but i discovered it many years ago bc i was just DLing random games to test out a SNES emulator.. the gameplay is kinda standard, but the soundtrack is AMAZING!
Awesome, just randomly learned about this game a week ago since I was looking up SNES games published by Enix. The hiragana for the password system just mean "stop/cancel" on the left (やめる) and "confirm" on the right (けってい), so they are fortunately not part of the password system.
I got this from my wife's old super famicom collection, it's great. It looks like a totally unassuming game on the surface but it's actually really well made, like a cartoon version of Ninja Gaiden.
Grant Betz i usually delete the Roms I finish or get bored of so I don’t have a way to compile a list for u...since snesDrunk puts “forgotten games” in the videos titles I would just do a RUclips search of SnesDrunk forgotten games and go from there
Dude your videos make me so happy every week I get off my third shift factory job and tune in to this I wish your show was longer but the production quality the idea of the show it’s spot on I’m 28 years old and from Arkansas this show hits my demographic spot on lol
Yah gotta love that late 80's, really early 90's anime look. Still having that Dragon Ball influence, but not yet turning into that homogeneous mid-late 90's anime style that everyone stereotypically associates with all anime.
That's basically all they thought was profitable over here. Those and kid's shows that are collectible toy and card game based. They did make some great stuff we'd never see because it's too out there and doesn't have enough moe girls to sell expensive figures of. We'd actually never get anything from the 80's era anyway. The supposed anime fandom refuses to see anything that isn't digital, or directly from their childhood. You need to go to the fringe groups for that stuff.
The Japanese version of the film is an earlier cut and contains several noticeable differences: The film is graded in a noticeable yellow tint throughout, with the opening space scene having a blue tint. The most notable and infamous difference is that Eric gets shot by a police officer right before the father alien fires back. The superimposed shadow of Eric's body is missing during the far shot of the mall exploding. A shot of the doctor's bloody hands as he examines Eric Michael's line after the doctors examination was changed through ADR for the American release from "He's dead?" to "He's gone?". This was badly overdubbed leaving the original line noticeably audible under the dubbed one. Michael's line after their mother arrives was changed in the American release from "He's dead, Mom. He's dead." to "They can't help him. They can't." The alien father picks the bullet out of Eric and tosses it away before they revive him. "Take Me I'll Follow You" by Bobby Caldwell plays during the end credits instead of "You're Not A Stranger Anymore" by Jara Lane. Mac and me terrible movie 😂
Great find. Will check this out soon. Really like how youve been breaking down the continue systems for alot of these games lately. Its always good to know if its a game I have to fully memorize or can work on checkpoint to checkpoint. Always looking for those types of games with unlimited continues or passwords since I dont have to play them every day, but can progress over time.
On the subject of manga owned by Enix, I recently looked up Gangan Comics to see what else they had. Thinking they only had a hand in video games, I was surprised by how many I recognized; most notably, Full Metal Alchemist.
This game looks great. It wouldn't have taken anything to have _westernized_ it either. Just rename the lead character after Bruce Lee and call the game Dragon Kid or Kid Dragon.
Nice to hear you talk about this game! Definitely one of the best Japanese platformers for the SNES! Just played it actually. I included this game myself in my Top 10 Japan SNES games. Would appreciate if you want to take a look at it, and tell me what you think :)
HOLY SHIT it's that game I've been trying to remember from my middleschool days! Before we had internet at home (country boy) we used the schools computers to play all kinds of SNES games and I remember this game so well but could never find it. Ahhh I also thought the character you play as looked like Fei from XenoGears.
SSssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssnes drunk. Was probably my favorite intro so far by u
You know, you've trained my ear to autotranslate "any way you can" to your [COMPLETELY LEGAL ACTIVITIES] at this point. It's gotten kind of weird when I hear other people mention similar phrases and my mind immediately interprets what they said toward [COMPLETELY LEGAL ACTIVITIES].
This one is a quirky super famicom game, based on manga, which I'm lucky enough playing it while it's new released on 1994. Nostalgic childhood memories for me^-^
For anybody who wants to get through the hiragana on the sides of the password screen: Left side says "Yameru" or Quit/Cancel, right side says "Kettei" or Confirm/Choose. BTW, the lobster fella is a crab! Understandable mistake though, I wouldn't have really noticed if I hadn't read the name in the top right.
Hey SNESDrunk, have you ever played all the Ganbare Goemon games from the SFC? I've only played the one that came out on the U.S. I'd love to hear your comments on those Goemon games, which frankly I think should have been in every console of every generation. I believe the last Goemon game was made for the GBA.
Hey SNESdrunk. Random Q if you see it: You refer to the 16bit sega as the Genesis, but in your Flink review you don't say Genesis at all and instead say MegaDrive (like here in UK) several times. That's the only video I've noticed you do that, and couldn't think why. Was there a reason? Thanks
Some other control issues it has: can't look up/down, you keep some jump momentum after releasing the d-pad if you jump again right after landing, andsome delay when turning around while walking and after using the slide It also has some trial & error in the form of shots from off screen and various boss patterns, I found it frustrating after a few levels to be honest. The parts involving certain NPCs and transforming were also kinda dull. But I liked the overall vibe and the moveset.
Hey! Where is the music at the end? There´s usually like a good 10 seconds of soundtrack there at the very end I always crank up the volume for. hahah But maybe that one cheap out KO there at the end decided to cut out the tune after game over.
YESSS PLEASE! But mind you that the first series has no subs but the manga is fan-translated. As for the second series, it's both dubbed and subbed, but the manga is not translated.
Your puns are getting harder, better, faster, & stronger.
TheShoe1990 I have a hard on for puns, an erect punis I guess
He has to make them better, RUclips is seen "Around The World"
it's almost midnight here but we're up all night for good fun u know
I had to read that One More Time to get the joke!!
If the art style looks familiar, it's because the author of the manga was an assistant of Akira Toriyama.
so it is not a hadouken, it is a kamehameha!
that was totally a denden mushi from one piece
Ah another papuwa enthusiast. ☺️
And that explain why the player can do a kamehameha
R.I.P. Akira Toriyama.

Really in depth, peak SNESDrunk. Thank you!

I've started signing off my emails with 'I hope you have a great rest of your day' 😄 Snesdrunk mind control
I'm here to say I hope you all have a great rest of your day
I got this from my wife's old super famicom collection, it's great. It looks like a totally unassuming game on the surface but it's actually really well made, like a cartoon version of Ninja Gaiden.
Guess that wasn't a penguin but a tadpole
“So I’m guessing daft may have something to do with them, that or they’re just a couple of punks”
Haha That one made me laugh
I always make it a point to download the rom and check out every “forgotten” Japanese title you highlight!
This was my goal, bht I think it might be too late to start over from the beginning. Do you have a running list?
Grant Betz i usually delete the Roms I finish or get bored of so I don’t have a way to compile a list for u...since snesDrunk puts “forgotten games” in the videos titles I would just do a RUclips search of SnesDrunk forgotten games and go from there
Yeah. That gets all the single games. Good call.
Yeah, I want them on my SNES Classic boys.
I watched both series and seeing you review this makes me happy
I've been enjoying this channel a lot....the random Always Sunny reference just made me a super fan hahaha
Total length of video: 284 secs.
Total length of "SNES Drunk": 5.5 secs.
1.94% of the video was spent listening to "SNES Drunk."
So you’re saying need more SNES drunk?
i think i'm speaking for everybody here when i say we need that top 20 from japan list! nice video!
How about a top 13? ruclips.net/video/SKMBxlLqjnI/видео.html
I was thinking, if I were to do that, I'd call the channel, "The Bus That Couldn't Slow Down"
Dude your videos make me so happy every week I get off my third shift factory job and tune in to this I wish your show was longer but the production quality the idea of the show it’s spot on I’m 28 years old and from Arkansas this show hits my demographic spot on lol
You finally talked about one of my fav sfc games. Yay.
I was looking for a good platformer to play on my vita, thanks man
I remember playing this on an old DVD for the PS2 that was loaded with an SNES emulator and every single rom ever
TIL that you can punch an eel in the head to make it fire a projectile. I always appreciate your awesome science, nature and animal facts, Mr. Drunk!
Yah gotta love that late 80's, really early 90's anime look. Still having that Dragon Ball influence, but not yet turning into that homogeneous mid-late 90's anime style that everyone stereotypically associates with all anime.
A golden age when they went with every concept under the sun instead of only music and fighting shows.

Yes, sir, Mr. Durden.
Another great vid...I wish you were the uncle I never had!!
WoW, this is the first time I don't have the game to play anyway I can. I do now. Thanks for this!
Damn that art looks good.
I love when you give me ideas for an evening of snes gaming with my buddy and this one even fit in some anime we could watch together
Looks cool, thanks for showcasing it! I probably never would've heard of it otherwise. Seems fun!
Reminds me of Dragon Ball, love the pixel art
Thank you for making and I hope you have a great rest of your day.

Agreed, super helpful

Anime is obscure
it warms my heart knowing you're an always sunny fan

Found your channel recently at the same time I started collecting SNES games again. What a coincidence lol
Wow, this game looks EXCELLENT!

SSssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssssnes drunk. Was probably my favorite intro so far by u
I have a rom of this on my original Xbox and it is definitely a hidden gem. I love the art style.
Another Japanese rom im downloading. Thanks!!
Thank you for sharing this.

I love that intro , should have been a little longer. Btw it's good to know that he is a fan of It's always sunny in Philadelphia 👍
love this game. one of my first tastes of japanese-only games and the magic of emulation
Yes, top 20 games that never leave Japan please!
How about a top 13? ruclips.net/video/SKMBxlLqjnI/видео.html
@@SNESdrunk oh I missed that one!, I'll add them to mi to play list. Thanks!

Just kidding, as always love your content. Keep on keepin' on.
Looks great.
Haha! Nice word play w/ Daft...punk. Nice graphics....the backgrounds remind me of Kirby superstar
We need a snes stoned!
2:00 nice
SNESDRUNK just made a Always Sunny ref. Love it.
My way to play is flash cart on an original system.
That's a great method!
You won me over with the sweet Dee comment lmao!
In college, my roommates would play A Link to the Past with the controller upside down. It was a fun challenge!
I've also never been this early! This was a great find! Keep 'em coming, SNESDrunk! :)
Lmao the always sunny reference had me rollin
You should check out Ushio to Tora on the SNES!
We need that top 20 list bro
Smooth always sunny reference ;)
I already think of you as cool as hell, but now, there is Philadelphia reference in the episode, so you are the coolest. No sex intented.
Sweet Dee! I understood that reference!!!
That It's always sunny reference 🤣
The Sweet Dee comment made my day.
This game made my smash snes game dream much more realistic

I believe the US Genesis version was canceled so it technically only got a MegaDrive release on cartridge. We did get the Sega CD version though.
@@crossdimension4031 Ah ok that makes sense.
ohh really good , i add this one to my snes mini
I like that when you say "Any way you can" its a legal way to say emu- i mean....
Definitely looking forward to that top 20 list mentioned...plz
How about a top 13 list? ruclips.net/video/SKMBxlLqjnI/видео.html

I'm waiting for your _"top 20 Super Famicom games that never left Japan"_ list
Broh that Steven Tyler joke made no sense ... but as usual the video was good . I hope you have a great rest of your day
Time to make that list
Hey! Where is the music at the end? There´s usually like a good 10 seconds of soundtrack there at the very end I always crank up the volume for. hahah But maybe that one cheap out KO there at the end decided to cut out the tune after game over.
This game is another in a long line that makes me wish I grew up in Japan...
this game looks like a modern retro platformer, thanks again
Looks like good stuff.
Now I'm ready for a Arcus speedrun 🤔
Can you review the new Sonic The hedgehog Demo on SNES?
That would be awesome!
not long enough for a review
I'm just here for the Always Sunny reference
pretty obscure gem there
Wow sounds kind of like Shounen Ninja Sasuke
@EVERYONE you can use RETROARCHS AI translation to play non patched games ...
This helps for all the untranslated games I'm interested in. Unless it makes it more obtuse...
Can you please make that top 20 list, you where talking about ? : D
This game looks fun. I wanna check out the anime and manga now too
