UPDATE: I've read your comments about how I structured the beginning of this video and agree that I could have done a better job. Here is an updated video: ruclips.net/video/JSy1B4EDAqA/видео.html
I was paying $299 for cable, home phone, and internet. I already pay for Netflix, Hulu, and Disney plus. I just cut off the cable and home phone so I’m saving $210 a month. I don’t regret it at all.
@@patricialarry8803 yes you’d have to. They charge more for just Wi-Fi but you still save money, especially considering you would likely still pay for Netflix Disney Hulu etc…with cable anyways since they have exclusive content that you can’t get with cable.
I'm a 68 yr old disabled woman living below the poverty line in HUD housing, which qualifies me to get Xfinity for $11 a month. I have Amazon Prime ($16) and Netflix ($10), and Kindle ($10.) I watch free RUclips. I don't own a TV; I use laptop computers. I'm retired and have a lot of free time. For $47, I am well entertained. AND, I am totally commercial free.
I called and told dish yesterday to cut it off. They offered everything to me to keep their service. I'm tired of all the bs on tv these days and I told them in detail.
I used to have Dish. The best thing about leaving Dish is that I took off the actual dish, and then mounted a $40 antenna on the J pole, and used the existing cables that they ran to my TV's to get all my local channels. In addition, I use a streaming service for the rest of the non local channels.
@0L sKooL man you can get every damn channel and movies for less than 20 bucks all sports packages ppv every movie channel thousands of adult channels lol I am puzzled how so many ppl are still throwing their hard earned money away
Same my local cable just for the tv part was $150 with internet I was at $230 and that’s not even the top package. I get FUBOTV for $65 and my internet is $100. But even when had Cable I still had HBO max and Netflix so I was paying $245 so I’m still saving at least $45 a month lol.
I cut the cord to cable & internet and save $173 per month. I watch 5 local channels and I’m just fine. Now I have plenty of time to go to gym and watch tv for free and they also have free WiFi. You don’t need TV to be happy.
The best combination for me right now is antenna, Netflix and Hulu. I used to have cable like 4 or 5 years ago then I got tired of paying almost $200 for cable plus Comcast always had problems with their service the cable would just go out all of a sudden and it wouldn’t be storming or anything. I always tell my family and friends that letting go of cable was the best decision I’ve made in my life cause I am saving myself so much money and it feels good to not have to pay a high ass cable bill.
@@lauralei6963 idk about that I’ve heard some rabbit ears antenna will still work on some modern tv’s, you know just cause they are old school doesn’t mean they are crap now.
@@richardziemies8247 If you have smart TV''s, for $15 a month you can use the locast app to access local TV on all your smart TV's. without additional commercials. Lccast is a pain in the butt, if you don't pay their fee.
Which services don't have commercials. I am trying to unsubscribe from Sling (easier said then done) because of the unbelievable number of commercials.
Before cable we accepted that commercials were necessary to enjoy TV because it was free. Then we got cable for more channels and minimal commercial interruption in exchange for a small fee. Now cable costs $200/month and there are more commercials than ever. I'm back to OTA broadcast for the limited amount of TV I watch. Rode the cable wave for 30 years and now I'm back to an antenna.
That’s how I am with discovery plus. I opted for the no commercials options and it makes watching food network, ID a lot easier. I can just pause when I want to and not wait for ads. Although when I watch tv and ads come on, I usually get up and walk around my room. Get something to drink, etc. I hate commercials.
I paid $252 per month for TV, internet and a landline (yeah, I know, dinosaur, whatever). But I finally joined the 21st century and I pay $80 for internet and $65 for RUclips TV. I pay for Amazon Prime and the annual subscription for Disney+ and I split Netflix and Hulu with my son. So to the best of my calculations I’m saving about $80 monthly.
I hear you Carol I still have my landline too and we need the internet or we won't be able to see anything. The best for me would be getting a Roku TV or the attachment and reduce my monthly payments. They have us coming and going i'm sick of so much of my money going to the cable companies. I'm a dinosaur too!
I canceled 7 years ago. I got an antenna and a roku. I have Netflix and Amazon. That's everything I could possibly want. $12.99 a month for Netflix and $109.00 a year for Amazon Prime. I've saved a bundle over the past 7 years.
Netflix just announced their new lowest tier that will include commercials will premier Nov.1st 2022. But it's $9.99 a month. That's a lot to pay to watch commercials I thhnk..
I have a firestick and a mohu leaf antenna. I live in an area where I get a lot of local channels in good quality. The mohu let's me watch local stations like ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX, etc and all I paid was $50 ish for the antenna.
@@CAsaidit that is good to know! Looking to cut my cable and only want local channels which was the main reason I keep the cable. It makes no sense that I'm paying additional $12/month for local channels and the satellite dish hasn't been working this entire week after several reset. Frustrated and no time dealing with more phone calls. I think it's a sign for me that it's time to cut the cord.
my son cut the cable at his house. He asked me to babysit his house while he was having a roof put on one day. So I did it.. The only thing he had on the television was Netflix.. I was looking forward to sampling Netflix, because I have been hearing that any movie I can think of is available on Netflix included in the package.. so I got them to show me how the remote worked and I turned on the television and I started searching.. I searched out about 15 movies that I would like to have watched again. Not a single one of them was available on Netflix.. so I started searching through the movies that were available.. mostly new movies that were a year to five yrs old… so I gave a few of them a chance, it was worse than trying to sit through the Ice Capades. I did not make it 10 minutes through any of the newer movies. Flying dinosaurs, little kids saving the world, completely unbelievable and unrealistic scenarios.. I soon realized why all those new movies are available on Netflix so soon, it’s because they completely bombed at the box office..
@@ccdogpark the highest netflix plan with the 4k streaming can have 4 streams at once you should be OK if you share it with 3 other people. I share my Netflix with my brother and he shared one of his Spotify premium family slots with me so it's a win win

People can save even more if they drop live TV. You could get on demand TV services for between $35 and $50 a month. If you don’t watch much live TV, it can be a good option or you can just cut out the expensive sports packages and still watch live TV. The whole point of cutting cable is to save money and if you’re spending more on streaming TV than you did on cable, switching isn’t worth it. Watch your viewing and your spending habits.
Norman F Birnberg The main live TV I like to watch is the evening news along with breaking news, and I get that the old-fashioned way via a good quality HD ANTENNA. Solves that problem. I will try the on demand TV service though. Thank you for the tips.
The biggest plus for me ditching Direct tv was the capability to decide for myself what channels/services I use. The tv delivery services business model of collecting money to add channels to their packages has never matched my needs. At least with streaming you have options and can manage your expense. The TV service model is dying because people no longer want to pay for 15 shopping channels or music channels or ..... at least I am in control and to me that is the biggest advantage to streaming
I have direct and want to get rid of it. Did you do the entire 2 year contract with them or canx early, I'd canx now but they want $300 plus the cost to mail their equipment back.
@@bluesky4385 my contract was up so it didn’t cost me anything. So far I would never go back. I have found issues casting from Discovery plus app though. They only support a few brands of TVs so if you have something else like me(LG) you have to get a Roku or Firestick or similar device to cast. Still saving money though
Am I the only one who rolls their eyes when people try to argue that paying for multiple streaming services is no different than paying for cable? Yes it is different. I get to watch what I want when I want and I'm not restricted to a schedule with ads designed to make me make dumb purchases. It's the same price put together but its better quality.
I'm finally cutting the cord. I just got my latest cable bill (Sparklight) and it increased to $144.00 (with taxes & fees)! That's Standard, 75-channel cable only, I'm not including internet. So even if RUclips TV jumps up to $100, it's still a huge savings for me.
Actually with most cable companies the $100 is the internet cable bundle. If you have 3 boxes or DVR’s that is around 60 more a month then add the broadcasting fees. My cable bill was 220 a month. I am glad to pay $110.00 and save $110. 00. And like he said I just don’t buy a streaming card if I don’t want to. I don’t let them auto draft from my account. And Disney plus is only $70 a year up front. Loved cutting the cord
I dropped cable TV over a year ago and just kept my high speed Internet. I have Netflix and Amazon Prime Video and with my roof mounted TV antenna. I am missing nothing that I like watching and saving over $130 per month. My neighbor just told me this morning that their cable and internet bill just went from $220 per month to $300 per month. They are joining the more that 10,000 homes per day that are dropping cable TV. With all the homes dropping cable TV the cable TV companies will have no choice but to continue raising rates to support the huge infrastructure for the remaining customers. IMO cable TV will be history in a few more years.
Another thing to take into consideration is internet prices go up when unbundling services and you may lose unlimited data that comes with some bundles. At this point it makes sense to switch ISPs to get a new customer rate. If it doesn't work out for you, your former ISP will usually have win back/new customer promotions which can be lower than retention rates
@@someotherdude there's not a single state with one ISP and 99.99% of America has another ISP or WISP: even Alaska has HughesNet, Viasat, WISPs, 5G LTEs... Lots of wireless internet to short term switch to just to switch back for a promo or long term if you end up liking it
@@jesusf8362 - Tons of localities are stuck with one ISP (and maybe another really crappy one). In many cases, the ISP has agreements with the town to explicitly forbid other companies from coming in. It's ridiculous and should be illegal. It can be done under the "natural monopoly" laws, or other such nonsense.
I've canceled cable TV and later streaming services as their costs increased. I need to have internet service and that is a cost that has gone up dramatically. There are really no options other than the local cable provider (Spectrum). When will there be competition for internet service?
Guy, get an amazon firestick. Unlock it and you can have access to hundreds of iptv sevices which offer 1000's of live tv channels for a very low($20/mo)! In some cases, especially with the rise in the cost of "streaming" services, you are right. When I first got into the streaming game, I was paying $30-$35 a month for a good streaming service. All those services have gone way up now. Some doubled. I have used Philo at about $20 a month just to compliment my local network channels that I get with an antenna. If people are not going to start using an antenna for local channels after they drop cable...then they should just keep cable....in my opinion.
@@MichaelJaikaran that limited wifi situation won't cut it for the majority. Using hotspots as the main form of connection has more disadvantages than advantages.
The difference between cable and internet is simple. Cable your paying for channels you will most likely never going to watch. Internet you choose what you want to watch and are willing to pay for.
Didnt think would watch much of olympics this year, but like how peacock app through my roku allows you to choose just the sports you like and watch highlights. I like those water sports like sculling, water polo, and kayaking that dont get much screen time normally.
Why did it take so long to find a channel to answer the questions I had? Thank you so much for this content I don’t even think you understand how much you’ve helped me lol
One thing you didn't mention that was an important factor for me, is the 'equipment rental charges' for each of the pieces of equipment Comcast charged me for over the course of many years which was a total of $40 per month in extra costs that I don't have to pay with RUclips TV. That in and of itself was a HUGE cost delta so even though I added streaming options, I'm still enjoying massive savings.
Thing is, and what i've run into is that your not including the price for internet. I'm paying $70 from Comcast, just for Wifi in the house. Adding RUclips TV, Netflix, and a couple other add-ons and i'm up to around $160-175/mth which is really close to what I was paying before when I dropped Cable initially. Unless I just did it backwards, the only plus I've seen to streaming services is that there's no contract.
Hey there. I have a second video that’s a price comparison of streaming vs. cable. At $175 for internet, live streaming and on demand streaming you are correct that’s not too much different from the old cable bundle. Maybe you can pause some of the subscriptions for part of the year to save. As you pointed out, no contracts anymore!
I don’t know where you live but I live in NYC and when I had cable it was way more than $150 I don’t have RUclips tv but I do have another streaming service. Anything is better than cable.
I'm happy that I cut the cord. I have free Roku TV live, pluto, tubo, and peacock. The only pay netflix, disney plus, and amazon prime. With internet/wifi, and premium streams, i pay a total of $137 per month against $300 when I had verizon cable with internet and landline phone. Saving $163 per month is such a relief. Great video!!! :)
The problem with your math is that most people have Netflix, Hulu, Disney +, etc... when they have cable. So their price with cable would actually be your $100 PLUS the price of the above services you listed. When I dropped Comcast and kept internet I picked up Philo plus an antenna for locals. My net savings per month was $95. During football and basketball season I picked up Sling Orange with the sports pack and lifestyle pack (Hallmark for the wife). My savings at that point was still $70/month. At the end of March when basketball season is over I will drop Sling and go back to Philo until Labor Day when football returns. The savings are real for many people when they drop cable. I don’t include Netflix, Hulu, or Disney + because I was already paying for those when I had Comcast cable tv.
I cut the cord over a year ago. RUclips TV $40, now $65...you get 6 separate accounts, you are allowed to have 3 devices on simultaneously per account. That’s 18 devices for $65...Awesome. The number one reason for cutting the cord is that I get to take RUclips TV with me all over the country. Which I have, Southern California, Northern California, Arizona,Texas, New York, Connecticut and Virginia. With the new $65 cost, google includes sport package, more international channels and more cable channels. Unlimited dvr with unlimited channels, All high definition channels, pause features, rewind, fast forward, continue watching, alert notice for an upcoming program. Yes, I have HBO MAX, Netflix no ESPN Plus. RUclips TV has multiple ESPN channels and FOX Sports channels...I love it! What I did was, I gave a few accounts as gifts to family members...they love it.
Every time I’ve spoken with an Xfinity representative, they tell me how much they appreciate my being a valued customer. When I told them I’m moving on to something else, they said fine, but don’t forget about the $210.00 for breaking the contract. I figured I’ve donated about $30,000 to them over time for the 8 channels I watch. Of course I’ll never pay the $210. I’m 68, and a little blemish on my credit report is fine. Sometimes one has to have principals.
@@calm1047 Depending upon which representative you get, when you can get one, these “great” deals that they offer can vary greatly. Contracts are usually put in place because the customer is getting something special, and they want some assurance that the customer will stick to such a wonderful deal. If the deal is that wonderful, they wouldn’t need this contract. It just got to the point where it wasn’t worth the $$ for the same few channels I was watching.
basic cable where i live in South Carolina is 138.00 bucks a month.i get youtube tv for 65.00 a month and i get my local stations plus all the sports channels.I had cable since 1973.canceled it a year ago.
Dope commentary. HBO max is free with at&t internet here in Georgia. I only pay $80 a month for the top tier high speed internet and kept Netflix. Peacock TV and Pluto are free, so I’m happy that we’re no longer paying $300 some odd dollars a month for a bunch of channels nobody ever watches. It’s a big break on my wallet and I can finally watch what I want when I want to. And if needed to record anything I still have a DVD recorder for the important events and must watch movies and shows.
I cut the cable and just kept the wifi and got Roku and digital antennas. No monthly fees and plenty of channels to chose from. Dropped Netflix several years ago and don't miss it at all.
I just got 2 new roku TVs, tomorrow I cut the cable, internet service 65.00, unlimited internet 35, my monthly bill with Sparklight 240.00. And my demetia mother has plenty of old western movies for her to watch. I'm done with any of Netflix's bullshit. I do have amazon and that is 9.99 a month. Works out great for me! Roku TV looks to be the answer!
you're forgetting the ridiculous equipment rental that's not required w streaming services. I have 6 TVs. The Genie/DVR is $25is monthly. The "client boxes" for the other TVs are $7 each monthly.
I have 2 TV's connected to the cable and 3 smart TV's that use the Comcast Xfinity streaming app to watch TV via our Wifi without any client boxes. Is Genie a cable company ? I never heard of them before.
We just bought a house and I’m cutting wherever I can. We just got fios internet for 85 per month (1gb up and down) and Hulu (55 for 3 mos then 65). I have had RUclips premium for a long time so I’m keeping that at 17 a month. With fios, The router and extender are included free. In fact it was more expensive to go down to the next plan of 400 mbps because router was not included. I tried RUclips tv, but with a surround sound setup, the sound was not good- didn’t even support 5.1. Hulu sounds much better and has a very clear picture. We got all of the channels we were looking for except one. And the only premium channel we might pay for during a specific show is hbo for 15 and since my sisters’ families want to watch it as well, we will split that cost. We will see how it works out long term! Fios tv is just too expensive to get the channels you want. Xfinity pricing is better but it goes up and it’s under contract. It also only has fast download speeds. Crossing my fingers!
Just a friendly update on Xfinity billing. My package is 100 a month but with device rental charges, broadcast charge, regional sports charge, service charges, and taxes my bill is actually 182 a month.
Sounds about right! I did a separate price comparison using an Xfinity bill (without a modem/router fee) and it was around $150/month, so yours is in that neighborhood. ruclips.net/video/AwLpKcOwX6Y/видео.html
I did drop Cable TV a little while back and at that time was paying 267 dollars a month. Now I just do 3 OD low cost streaming services along with cable internet only. Cost is now around 80-90 dollars. Yes, I did try the trials for RUclips TV, Sling, and HULU Live and decided that they were too costly at around 60-70 dollars a month for EACH of them. Did not try FUBU TV. Instead invested in OTA antenna for my live free TV. What is nice is there are no contracts for the streaming services, so I can drop them if the OD ones also get too high priced. So I too learned allot over the few years with streaming.
I have tried almost all streaming services and I currently use Philo which has built in recording capabilities for only $20 a month, period. That is the amount of the bill each month. No local channels but I have an HD digital antenna that I’m able to get local channels on when I want to watch news, etc.
Philo 20 per month, OANN 2.50 per month, CuriosityStream 19 annually, roughly $24.00 for all and also the free ones like Pluto etc. I’m happy as a clam.
First off, I bought an Antenna to see what was over the Air for free. I get no less than 35 free stations, more if you turn my antenna. Then I bought a Roku device. This was enough to convince my wife. So we dropped cable, turned in 5 box for the 5 tvs, stopped the dvr service saving $125 a month. So With my vast dvd library and VHS Library, I get enough free stuff to ever think about paying for a service. Now, Like most women, my wife has an Amazon Prime account meaning she gets Amazon Prime!! So right now @ 7:26 pm, she is watching Jeopardy and I 'm watching Doctor Who: Frontier in Space on Pluto/Roku.
If you have 5 smart TV's you can spend $15 a month to subscribe to locast and watch local TV on any of them without having to watch a lot of extra commercials.
That is encouraging. I'm going to try this. I can't take the bills anymore! It just feels wrong to pay so much. I just want Jeopardy, local news, and an occasional history documentary or nature show. The rest of TV is swill that will lower your IQ.
@@someotherdude You have to keep Wifi, so I still have an internet and house phone bill. So you need internet/wifi to watch Antenna man videos, So wifi feed whichever stick you want. I choose Roku because of the free stuff which is much better than if you just have cable And you can still use Roku before you make the leap from cable. Also, I'm able to hook my antenna to the cable harness to feed the local stations to each tv. But I bought a different Roku for each tv, so if you have kids, they can customize their channels or if your spouse wants to watch a different show, or if you go to bed and continue watching your show. I have 4 wide screens and one smart tv in the main room. No fighting over the remote or you can choose which games you want to watch, because you still have access to absolutely any Premium viewing such as Charter Spectrum, Or Hulu. As I pointed out, my wife has an Amazon Prime account, or you can just subscribe to "FOX News" or "CCCNN" But the antenna and Roku have no monthly payments You have the power! *ALL ROKU GIVE THE SAME VIEWING OPTIONS! So the more expensive units are things like a talking remote or something, the apps are the apps
Although RUclips TV ends up being the same $$$ as base cable. your cable is worthless unless you pay for the DVR service and boxes which the DVR is included with YTTV. Unlike cable, you can share YTTV with other local single person households as you get three simultaneous streams. Most of us split and share the other streaming services too.
Great video! I wish you would have addressed the issue of Cable companies price gouging for internet once you cancel the TV part of the package. That is the real challenge of cord-cutting, the outrageous isp pricing. Your recommendations are great, it's all good advice, but when you add in the nearly $100 I have to pay every month just to connect to the internet, You can't win at this game. Would really like to Know your thoughts about that. Thanks.
I agree. It’s the reason why I’ve kept my cable. By the time I just pay for internet and look for other streaming options, you end up paying the same. The best thing you can do is share apps with people. Me and my mom and sis have one Netflix, Hulu, and Amazon Prime account and we all share it.
I did it, dropped cable TV, got a TV antenna to watch local TV stations for important weather and other news and shows. Picture quality is much better then cable which is less than 2K, your cable screen is filled with station notification and channel numbers, makes the screen viewing area slightly smaller than Antenna. I’m saving $81 a month; TV antenna cost me $75, it payed for its self in the second month. So far I have PLEX, Crackle -owned by Disney-, TUBI, and yes PLUTO, even it’s pr-recorded shows still have fun watching a marathon of Mission Impossible TV show originally shot on 35mm film with absolutely rich colors. RUclips has everything you missed but with ads, I don’t have a problem with that. The only thing I’m paying for is Netflix but it’s through family and friends program. Disney plus has that as well, they have a good library of National Geographic shows if you like. With cable TV You are stuck with wherever they offer in that package, with a TV antenna you get channels you don’t even have on cable, and if you a Samsung TV they have their own free streaming channels added to the local antenna.
A person never makes a mistake cutting the cable. As long as the studios and various handlers of programming are who they are, Streaming sucks. This belief that one must have a provider service is not true. They all suck.
It been years since I cancel cable! It was $135 a month. Over the years I have a whole bunch of different kinds of streaming services! But now I only have what I need and that’s only 3 services: Discovery+ and Paramount+ and Amazon prime. There will be once a year I will get Netflix and Hulu for 2 month. And thanks for this video it help.
Many cable company's offer a $15 .. thirty channels in a package with high speed internet and a home phone around $160 for all ...then buy a firestick load some free movie Apps and that is way more than you will ever need.
I understand but most subscribers were paying more than 100.00 and the cost for cable or satellite was increasing. Currently I have RUclips TV and few other streaming services but like you said those services were purchased temporarily and I canceled some of my streaming services. The good news is you can subscribe for a short period and cancel the streaming services anytime unlike cable or satellite 📡 services. So that 100.00 plus was spent just for few months compared to having cable or satellite for a long period of time.
One big difference is the streaming has no ads. I'd rather pay 106 with no ads than 100 with ads. But we currently have the hulu bundle (no ads $20) & prime video (however you figure that out by being a prime member). Got rid of nflx 6 months ago & surprised at how much our family of 5 don't miss it
Hey Mike. I understand what you're saying about the ads. Sounds like you have a great bundle that's not too expensive! I don't have Netflix either at the moment, but I sign up for a couple of months at a time.
Confused, as usual. Hooked into Hulu for Dopesick, then thought to cancel until I saw overlapping programs. On HBOmax, noticed Turner Classic Movies, once easy to record back with DirectTV. Why is this so difficult for Smart TVs (well, sneaky smart) that recording a show is such a tangle of tech? Lack of guides to pick recordings a week ahead is ludicrous. Sometimes I want my cord back. But there's no going back. We have a window over-the-air with weak signal, HBOmax, Disney and Prime shared with our grown son. We're on out own using Roku. We pay for Netflix and Hulu for blockbusters like DopeSick. We like plain ol' RUclips for old movies. It overwhelming and I rue the day I got sucked into this mess. I WATCH LESS TV THAN BEFORE because of the difficulty. It didn't have to be this way.
I am so glad to get rid of COX cable who priced gouged me for years. So $73 per month versus $170 at COX is a savings of anger of wear and tear on me. Oh, and I have T-Mobile Internet thru which I get my Roku and RUclips TV.
I cancelled my cable years ago and have never looked back or regretted it. I get as much as I want to watch and more just with my over the air channels and now with a smart tv and there's more than I could ever view. I've save a bundle of money in the process.
I have been paying for Dish Network. Out of the monthly fees, I pay $43 above the cost of the channels package: $12 for local channels, $15 rental for the Hopper receiver, $7 ea. x 2 for the Joey receivers that are required on any other tv you want service too. Then theres $2 in taxes. This $43.00 per month additional fees are the same regardless of the size package I choose. I'm switching to streaming and the $43 goes away.
The cable companies (particularly Comcast) are savvy to the cord cutters and plan to add usage charges in 2022. I was told for tier one internet which is 25 mb/s the included cap will be around a 1.2 tb data limit per month and then billed per gigabyte after that. They will eventually get their money one way or another. Until there’s more competition we’re at their mercy.
I cut the cord and have like 300mbps service for $60 month from Comcast. The performance and reliability is excellent. I own all of my own equipment, so I don't pay any rental fees. The 1.2TB per month cap is old news. It is plenty for me (I have 833GB left and tomorrow is the end of the month). I have never gone over like 600GB because I don't spend my life on the couch or in front of a computer. BTW, they charge $10 for 50GB blocks over 1.2TB, they do not bill in blocks of 1GB.
Cable: $30 to $100 per month. Streaming: The most important for about $50 per month including internet bill. In this case the best option is to put an eye patch, a tricorn and speak a rare accent
Just cut Xfinity yesterday after cable+internet exceeded $250/mo. Went with YTTV + Netflix + Apple + Peacock (I like to watch Dan Patrick). We have Prime but I have it because I shop almost exclusively online. We dip in and out of Disney+ to watch specific things. Savings is right at $1000/yr with 2023 Xfinity increases. Stayed with cable too long because it was convenient.
This is good, but the other side of the coin I never see is people always add the extra streaming services into a cord cutters budget. Are you saying no one who has cable doesn't subscribe to Netflix, Hulu, Disney +, HBO Max etc? I'm sure many do, and those costs would have to be added to the cable tv'ers total monthly budget (including those crazy cable fees).
I have my phone company pay for one of my streaming services, another is part of a "prime" service, and I have two other steaming services.. Besides that I have a Tablo to record over-the-air stuff. That plenty of content, considering there is also RUclips, PlutoTV, etc. Livin' the dream for much less than cable.
You also have to determine who your internet provider is going to be. If you determine Xfinity, or Cox, your internet might be capped, which presente another problem
I would think the worst mistake is trying to avoid using an antenna. The antenna can save lots of money, even for us streamers. Mainly because of network sports broadcasts.
I love youtube tv because unlimited dvr. I have Hulu for 1.99 for a year, then Disney plus with Verizon for 6.99, and then Netflix for 13. So my total is 87 bucks. What you forgot to mention is some internet service providers charge for more data. So make sure to check that before cutting the cord.
@@dennyhiett6271 so its 80 bucks. But then if you go over its either an addition 10 for each 50GB overage. Or 30 for extra 500GB or 50 for unlimited. I was able to get me back down by downgrading all my video streams/netflix to lower quality.
Cable keeps going up every other month. The “fees” are more than the actual cable. In order to get digital local channels. I need another cable box for my bedroom 📺 to get local channels. Will be investigating antennas and Roku
You can get an exterior antenna and connect it to wherever your cable line comes into your house. If you disconnect the line that comes from the telephone pole and connect your antenna through the house there, all the coax ports/cables in your house should receive the signal. It’s what I did in my house. However, this may disconnect your internet. It depends on your situation.
Watch a guy on RUclips called Antenna Man. a firestick would also be a better option because with Prime you get so much movies and more plus fast free shipping.
Been a cord cutter for years , ooma for phone service , high powered antenna on my roof for TV aprox 50 plus channels, I also use a findstreams box this allows me to get other services anywhere in the world for much better prices .
After researching this for several months still keeping up with it how much you save if it all depends what you like to watch. Though you are right for shopping around, but even that's becoming a mute point as well.
Don’t forget that if you use your cable provider for internet only, the price goes up. Eg. I paid $50/mo for internet plus $75/mo for tv with Spectrum. When I dropped the tv package, my cost for internet went from $50/mo to $80/mo. A lot of folks don’t account for this.
That's not true with all internet providers, but definitely something to consider. A poll of my audience found more than 50% pay between $50 to $75 for an internet-only plan. Hopefully this will stabilize with T-Mobile and Verizon Home Internet ramping up as competition.
Bullshit. I call the cable company and negotiate the Internet service down to what they are offering new customers. I've been with them for a long time, and they always renew my contract at a much lower price.
Even if you have cable, you have to pay extra for those channels...thus making it WAY more expensive...so if you cancel cable and just pay for Disney, hulu, what ever...way cheeper!
If you're close to a population center you'd be amazed what you can pick up over an antenna connected to a digital TV. Add Netflix, Amazon Prime, and maybe Disney+ and you're way ahead. If you follow a sports team outside your local area this might not work for your particular case (other than watching games at a friend's house or sports bars).
I feel he's making in my opinion the classic mistake in comparing something like RUclips TV to traditional cable. Most people that have traditional cable are also getting Netflix, Disney bundle and possibly HBO anyway. So really we are just comparing cable to RUclips. Subtracting the $100 cost of cable and substituting the $65 RUclips TV is a savings - apples for apples. I have Verizon and when I canceled the cable portion of it they did not raise my internet rate - that stayed at $50 a month. However, I choose what the $65 RUclips TV charge was too much when it went up so dropped that, got CBS All Access and a few free TV apps, plus some sports channels that don't charge. I now pay less than a hundred bucks a month including internet for everything I want.
I understand your feedback and appreciate the comment. This video was not meant to be a comparison of streaming vs. cable. It was to point out the #1 mistake people make -- which in my opinion is not stopping and starting subscriptions or shopping around. I have a separate video that you might like better that compares the price of streaming vs. cable: ruclips.net/video/AwLpKcOwX6Y/видео.html

I called the regular line and they told me they couldn’t do anything for me- so I then made a conscious effort to call the cancellation dept- and they saved me about $30/month off my cable bill
Late on this band wagon but recently cut my cable and home phone and have been doing exactly what you are saying however my biggest problem is not being able to get Bally Sports, I am a huge Atlanta braves fan and am unable to get Bally sports now seems every streaming provider has dropped them and you have to sign up for cable to get it and I refuse to go back paying $150 for cable just to get Bally Sports.

The biggest plus for me ditching Direct tv was the capability to decide for myself what channels/services I use. The tv delivery services business model of collecting money to add channels to their packages has never matched my needs. At least with streaming you have options and can manage your expense. I dropped cable TV over a year ago and just kept my high speed Internet. I have Netflix and Amazon Prime Video and with my roof mounted TV antenna.

Nice enjoy the savings!
I have 2 TV's connected to the cable and 3 smart TV's that use the Comcast Xfinity streaming app
to watch TV via our Wifi without any client boxes. Is Genie a cable company ?
I never heard of them before.
@@ccdogpark the “genie” is the main receiver/dvr. It was $25 a month to rent
An excellent service
How crazy! I have the EXACT agave picture on my wall. I feel like you recorded this in my home! Lol 😂
Philo 20 per month, OANN 2.50 per month, CuriosityStream 19 annually, roughly $24.00 for all and also the free ones like Pluto etc.
I’m happy as a clam.
Super video and chock full of information. Thanks, Michael.
So With my vast dvd library and VHS Library,
I get enough free stuff to ever think about paying for a service.
Now, Like most women, my wife has an Amazon Prime account meaning she gets Amazon Prime!!
So right now @ 7:26 pm, she is watching Jeopardy and I 'm watching Doctor Who: Frontier in Space on Pluto/Roku.
If you have 5 smart TV's you can spend $15 a month to subscribe to locast and watch local TV
on any of them without having to watch a lot of extra commercials.
Bill Zardus
That is encouraging. I'm going to try this. I can't take the bills anymore! It just feels wrong to pay so much. I just want Jeopardy, local news, and an occasional history documentary or nature show. The rest of TV is swill that will lower your IQ.
@@someotherdude
I just got an email that says Locast is suspending operations effective immediately.

@@someotherdude You have to keep Wifi, so I still have an internet and house phone bill.
So you need internet/wifi to watch Antenna man videos,
So wifi feed whichever stick you want.
I choose Roku because of the free stuff which is much better than if you just have cable
And you can still use Roku before you make the leap from cable.
No fighting over the remote or you can choose which games you want to watch,
because you still have access to absolutely any Premium viewing such as Charter Spectrum, Or Hulu. As I pointed out, my wife has an Amazon Prime account,
or you can just subscribe to "FOX News" or "CCCNN"
But the antenna and Roku have no monthly payments
You have the power!
Yes to all of this
Great video!
IF YOU BUNDLE WITH AT&T WITH YOUR WIRELESS AND INTERNET THEY WILL GIVE YOU INTERNET 1 Gbps for $50 instead of $80 per month . thats a huge discount
It's why it's a good idea to look for third-party ISPs outside of the major telcos.
@@WerewolfLord I wish u could but when you’re stuck with only one isp you have to pay the slowly but consistently increase in prices. American Greed!
100mbps should work fine and the price is good.
Nice job -- And, yes Samsung has a lot of additional stuff for free, but I find its interface very difficult to navigate.
😏 I wish our cable bill was $106
Many cable company's offer a $15 .. thirty channels in a package with high speed internet and a home phone around $160 for all ...then buy a firestick load some free movie Apps and that is way more than you will ever need.
@@Florida1963 I got At&T TV for the house for $85 a month, its got all the channels HBO Showtime on top of Free HBO max for a year
I understand but most subscribers were paying more than 100.00 and the cost for cable or satellite was increasing.
This is exactly the point I was trying to make. What you’re doing is very smart.
I cut the cable 5 years ago and I have never signed up for any streaming services
Who needs so many streaming services
Great point. I try to keep to 3 or less at any given time, but I cycle through many for a variety of content.
No ads if you have a DVR. It buffers live TV so you can skip commercials or fast-forward thru when recorded (and Tivo has the new "SKIP" feature).
THANKS MICHAEL! IT WORKED RIGHT AWAY! 20 CHANNELS!
OTA TV is getting better and with GenTV coming its a game changer.
You can save even more if you rotate streaming services monthly, binging and moving to the next one ECT.
yes!
Nobody has time to binge watch tv regularly.
I have no regrets about cutting cable. It was a no-brainer, actually.
I have Roku and RUclips Red. All I pay is 12.83 for RUclips Red and 59.00 for internet. I’m not a TV couch potato and this is all I need.
nice savings!
You don’t have to use Comcast at all.
Great recommendations, especially on budgeting and dropping channels that aren't delivering.
Great point
@@MichaelSaves Oh gee, no kidding.
My thought exactly.
I have gotten HBO, STARS & other channels during a feebee promotion but ended up not watching it. So, I guess I’m the one exception to the rule!

How much is your internet
@@dennyhiett6271 so its 80 bucks. But then if you go over its either an addition 10 for each 50GB overage. Or 30 for extra 500GB or 50 for unlimited. I was able to get me back down by downgrading all my video streams/netflix to lower quality.
@@Topher-N yeah some of these internet providers stick it to you. Fortunately my wow internet is $50.
You’re right. These are the best streaming options.
Still gonna cost you for Internet.
Been a cord cutter for years , ooma for phone service , high powered antenna on my roof for TV aprox 50 plus channels, I also use a findstreams box this allows me to get other services anywhere in the world for much better prices .
What antenna did you buy?
Excellent point as always
You mentioned Sling TV but don’t you need to purchase an indoor antenna to get local channels??
Yes you do for Sling
I've been with them for a long time, and they always renew my contract at a much lower price.
i don't pay for live tv subscriptions, i'm strictly on demand tv only like netflix hulu etc
I've been doing this since day one!
Even if you have cable, you have to pay extra for those channels...thus making it WAY more expensive...so if you cancel cable and just pay for Disney, hulu, what ever...way cheeper!
True. I have a separate video on cable vs. streaming -- not just about the #1 mistake tip: ruclips.net/video/AwLpKcOwX6Y/видео.html&feature=emb_logo
