  • We may fear many things in life, from disease to natural disaster to political turmoil. But too often, we forget that God Himself should cause us to tremble. In this message, R.C. Sproul describes what happens when we encounter the One who is holy.

There's no feeling like feeling the presence of God. It happened to me the night that I was saved, alone in my room. I was on my knees and crying tears of deep sorrow while I prayed for God to come into my life. He answered that prayer and it was like someone flipped a light switch. I went from being the saddest I'd ever been before, to crying tears of joy and filled with hope and happiness. I could feel Him there with me, and that I was changed in an instant. I never understood what people meant by being born again until that night. Thank you Lord! Thank you for pulling me out of the sewer! I owe you everything. 🙏❤️

A pastor told my husband and me that when it comes to God, our feelings alone don't matter. What matters is what God said in The Bible, because our feelings can lead us astray.

I'd like to suggest a short book entitled, The Experience That Counts from Grace Publications. It is an abridged version of Jonathan Edwards's classic book, Religious Affections. In it, Jonathan Edwards tells us about the nature of emotions and their importance in Christianity. Emotions in heaven and how true emotions are summed up in love.

We walk by faith and not by sight (or by feeling, or by what we hear that doesn’t align with the Word, etc.)

Feelings are important. The right feelings are more important than what most people will say out of caution. The right feelings are very important. But they must be powerful feelings based on your correct knowledge of truth, consequence and mercy. The more you understand what’s at stake and how much God has done for you the more dramatic feelings will come to you. The ones you don’t have to feel worried about or doubt your priorities over. The strong feelings are results of the understanding of His love. They are not the focus.

Makes sense, the natural man cannot understand the things of God. You must trust in Christ and repent and be filled with the Spirit.

!!! This is the first time I have heard Sproul say he was “converted from *paganism*”. 10:50
Has any else ever heard him give testimony about this before?!
Is there perhaps a video where he elaborates on this?
I’ve been a fan of RC Sproul and Ligonier Ministries for a long time. I love Sproul and this Ministries.
*Just interested if he ever shares a more in-depth/or elaborate testimony about this part of his history.
    Does anyone know?

Hebrews 10:28 Anyone who has set aside the law of Moses dies without mercy on the evidence of two or three witnesses. 29 How much worse punishment, do you think, will be deserved by the one who has trampled underfoot the Son of God, and has profaned the blood of the covenant by which he was sanctified, and has outraged the Spirit of grace?
"The gospel is not an announcement that God has relaxed his justice or lowered the standard of His holiness."

Dear Dave, I often see comments like yours and search my heart for some winsome way to show the truth of God but it pains me because I have no idea who you are and what you have been through and I remember what it was like when Christians used to throw bible verses at me and how it just did nothing to my heart (or so it seemed). But I want to share with you that I used to sit in the seat of scoffers and stand in the way of sinners (as Psalm 1 reflects) but one day God changed my heart through His Word (the Holy Bible) and now it is true of me that once "I was blind, but now I see!" John 9:25 ...I pray that you will some day know God and love Him because there is no greater joy than this and it is the reason why He made us. Seek Him

Keith Green "All my life I'd been lost in a fantasy that blinded me, untill your love broke through". We hate God, I did all of my life, and I'd thought that I just didn't believe in him, and I never realized that I had been running from him untill I had a moment, where I recognized simply that if he'd existed, how immensely important it was that I live my life in search for him, that that was all that mattered even if there was a chance he existed, and recognized that for some reason, even though I didn't believe in him, I found myself for years desperately avoiding him... avoiding someone who didn't exist... Why

I once tried to disprove God also. Then God put me on my knees for seven days, praying, calling out to him. I was put before Jesus, at the foot of the cross. I was shown what he did for me. My sin was imputed to him, and his righteousness was imputed to me. He died for the sins I should have died for. He became sin for us. He saved me, and then my wife, my son, and my two daughters. Then he called me to preach his Word. I went from denying him, to proclaiming his glory. I pray you find God's mercy in your life.
