Thanks for the overview of the fishroom, and focusing on what you did! Have been away for a bit, so haven't had a chance to watch the last week's videos in detail yet, and this gives me breathing room to do so while not falling so far behind ;) I'm hoping to track down some Amano shrimp soon, to help with the pernicious hair algae I have in 2-3 tanks, what I've got isn't helping enough with my manual removal and my lighting adjustments. What I'm most keen to see though is how to winterize tub plants! We had a tub on the deck with some tadpoles (sadly succumbed in a heat wave, could only cool it down with water changes the first 3 out of 4 days it was in the high 30's Celsius), but I'd like to bring in the water lettuce & water hyacinth ASAP as we are about to get frost warnings hit us soon. Just not wanting to bring in their algae, or other potential problems, into my fishroom...
Are bamboo shrimps an idea?
@@ChrisMintjes there are bamboo shrimp in the tank
I hit that button as soon as i read fuzzy driftwood.. hate the stuff! :/
Me too!
I have to say you are setting yourself up for long-term success. Awesome work station and your new gallery is already looking Epic. I can't wait for the full Fish Room remodel tour video😁👍
Love the chair in the middle! Can imagine spending hours sitting - watching, listening :)
Thank you so much for clearing up my fuzzy white driftwood issue! I thought it was a real problem and was going to remove my little trees! I'm doing a forest scape.
Those biofilms, the fuzzy growths are epic! I kind of have a real appreciation for them since really getting into Loricariidae where there are species that specialise on them Baryancistrus xanthellus or technically Panaqolus. Their intelligent structures where each bacterial cell talks to the other via qourum sensing, it's like a city where the bacteria are the people which create roads and buildings in a 3-D space, there are algaes potentially like the plants and protozoa too.
Cheers Rachel
My new tank set up has got the fluffy fugus growing on the bogwood. My bristlenose is going to love that when he gets put into the tank in a week or so but I've got to allow my plants to establish and root down 1st or he will dig everything up... Good luck on phase two.. ❤️❤️
That was a great update, I can see the plan coming together. Thanks for the wonderful fish room tour!
A pair of Betta ocellata would be kind of cool in there. They are often found in the same clear water streams as Gastromyzon sp. in Borneo
Definitely get some Gold Desert Gobies or Candi River Gobies
Yuck fuzz I’m trying to get rid of algae in one of my tank
Beautiful tank by the way! I’ve picked up drift wood from the mountains here and have never saw any white fuz but it was made my tank super dark so I took them out as a precaution since I don’t have experience with any black water tanks. I do want to grow some plants on the wood and I was thinking ivy but the wood kinda came with some plant hitchhikers that I’m growing in another tank. Raising gobies and they will dig up all your plants so I’ve pretty much given up on anything that can’t float
yes indeed...that ficus leaf drop is normal...and since you are already seeing new growth on the way, they will fill in soon enough. Those orange eyed shrimp are so wild looking and wow those crabs sure are cute...and tiny! The fish room is coming along so nicely...whew what a lot of work, eh?
So. Much. Work
Thank you this was very useful! I have the white fuzz on new driftwood and this is the first helpful thing I've watched about it.
A bit off topic here but can anyone help me find a 75 gallon aquarium at a reasonable price new or used and be willing to ship it to Miami, I live in the Caribbean and use a freight forwarder to get supplies.
Renovations going great! Tnks for update. I shared out on fishtubers notifications (fb)
oh my god you are just like queen of AVATAR
The Fishroom is coming together. I love all your tanks. I’d like to see those purple oil cats again. They are so stinkin’ cute!
I'm loving your hillstream tank :) and fun little fish that would fit well into the 150g hillstream tank would be Akysis-vespa, orange-banded hillstream catfish, never been able to find them myself :( but they get to about 3cm max and could be a nice little breeding challenge.
I still have a few here that are several years old.
@@RachelOLeary I'm jealous of your fish collection with all your hidden gems :)
What type of paint did you use for the trim
You know what you really need in the fish room? African Freshwater Pipefish (Enneacampus ansorgii). Wait, that wasn't what you were asking for. Other than darters and Sicyopterus spp., I'm drawing a blank on interesting ideas for the Hillstream tank. I'm sure there must be something from South America, hell if I can think of one suitable species. Why did I get rid of my Baensch Atlas series?
I have worked with Rainbow pipefish (Microphis deocata) before. Its really too much work with the amount of tanks I have to have a fish that is so needy. they were super cool, but so MUCH WORK
My tiny shrimp rarely come out. I wS shipped 10, but down to 5. They were SO small. The bigger babies are surviving. My water quality is right on. Temp is good. Do I need to feed them anything other than fish food? I have live plants.
Fish food is ok, but sinking pellets are easier to portion and clean up
nice to know that white fuzz is normal
If the hairs on the wood aren't harmful then I'll just leave it there lol
put lot of amanos the heroes =)
you are fucking awesome.
Your aquarium is awesome !!! 💙💦💙
i juat got a new tank up running and have never before seen this fuzzu stuff, so i totally panic, and then i found your video,, and was all ooh nice.......but now im curious, whitch fis do eat this stuff....i have 2 ottos, do they eat it ?
They will graze on it, as would ancistrus or snails for sure
Hi Rachel, I really need your help and knowledge. I would like to know if exo terra grapevine wood is safe in aquarium. I added to pieces and there is some fungus plus some hairy, kind of long string
fungus on rock, wood and plants. Someone on a forum told me it could be toxic and I would like to know what you think.
LMAO @ "75 gallon nano"!
Pleco will clean it in one night or two. Its the only solution.
Beautiful fish tank
Thank you P!NK!
👍
The tanks are looking great even with the fuzz. I’m totally loving the 150. Did Kevin say in the original video where the small smooth pebbles in the new tank came from? I definitely want those. Looking forward to seeing what the tubs produced.
Love what you have done and will do!
Beautiful hill stream...a huge school of white clouds? And I have limited interest in landscape styles, preferring biotopish, but the bonsais on your beautiful Peng Jang might convert me...
I think my fishroom shows I generally prefer biotope style too,but there is something really fun about the penjing. I think it's because it merges my love of terrestrial plants with aquariums
You are a leader. And now I know how to spell penjing.
Everything looks great! Particularly impressed with the 75G nano, it looks incredible! (Kinda hoping your next project involves Angelfish... but that's a VERY biased wish! :P)
As always, your makeup looks great.
Angels tend to eat my profits, literally (small fish and shrimp) so are not something I generally work with. Who knows though!
Rachel O'Leary that makes complete sense! :P I’m just now starting to work with them and i could see how a shrimp colony wouldn’t last at all with them in a tank!
I adore those crabs! 🦀 The fish room is looking great! Good luck on phase 2 :)
Ps. How’s the goldfish outside doing?
they are doing fine!
Thanks for showing the micro crabs again. I am considering them for a small planted tank but just have not gained enough real life knowledge to make a decision...yet ;)
If they're that dark they might be Royal Blue Tigers! Even more valuable than Orange Eye Blue Tigers. Man that rock is awesome! I love that tank!
I just set up a 30 gallon tub for guppy/snails. My boyfriend didn't physically stop me lol. Through thick and thin, right?
Sending prayers and love...can't wait for all the updates.
I put a team of molly golds with some Cory cats,24hrs cleaned of fungus on drift wood👍🏾
I can't get over the size of your Amano's! 😁 I really need to add more to my tank, I was just too scared this summer in case they were killed by another heat wave but I think I'll try again now Autumn has set in. 😊
I think you should add some pygmy madtom/Noturus stanauli, to the hillstream, their a North American native, but they might be difficult to get, and maybe some shiners, darters, and dace. The bucephalandra looks great in the penjing.
Hi, Can anyone tell me why the drift wood gets fuzzy !!
Thanks in advance.
So much to look forward to. I'm really eager for fish from the bins coming in and the new tank.
For one reason or another, I've been unable to purchase clear silicone 1 at my local stores. I finally ordered some online, but that is going to take forever to arrive. At any rate, I'll be able to seal my aquarium soon! Yay!
Wow Rachel looking good...what a FISHROOM ❤
Wow. Awesome tank! Love that crinum callamastratum! I heard that plecos will eat that white fungus. I have it in one of my newer tanks now also and I'm considering getting some as cleaning it is just a neverending battle.
Common problems and what to do when setting up a new planted tank. Or critiquing beginner tanks sent in through pictures and giving advice.
How that algae gone? Any update? I also have same problem
It disappeared after a few weeks
@@RachelOLeary no treatment required? Is that harmful to fishes on tank?
Do you have any of the Psilorhynchus species? Like balitora or sucatio?
Yay for more gobies! Thanks for the micro crab and amanos vs algae update.
Rachel you are doing wonderful I can't wait to see what you got planned for that room it's already looking fantastic and I wish you luck with the rest of it I mean seriously but don't hurt yourself and have your husband take it easy to anyways I think it looks great you're doing a wonderful job you are so talented please take care and God bless if I ever get my tank situated I might be buying fish cuz I'm done with a place that you hard to take care of LOL
Room is looking really good an all your tanks are gorgeous, i can't even pick a favourite but if i had too, then i love your Hillstream aquarium 😍
Lookin good! (I so love that you painted the trim black, that's the type of thing that I see :) )
My Rosie barbs eat it like spaghetti !
Turns out nice and tidey, really like the hill stream tank with the black finish, looks much better and feels better integrated
Incredible fish room. The view from that chair is beyond nice.
I love having shrimp and plecos bc I get to search through the tank to try and find them, it’s like a scavenger hunt almost
Things are looking really good. It's a lot of work but in the long run I think your workflow will be a lot better, and that in turn will make it easier on your body / health. Look forward to seeing updates
Looking pretty today and love the hillstream tank!!! Great content glad that tank is all good!!!
Have you ever added snails (Mystery Snails particularly) to a hill stream aquarium?
I like your videos not just to learn a thing or two,but mostly because you seem to enjoy your hobby 👍🏾
Cool tanks and stands. Very impressive!
Bought some spider wood put in the tank and next day it was slimed, took it out three times ,it also left tannins in the water , I've seen videos of people say'n the driftwood needs to be in boiling water for two hours ,scrub it and it should be tank ready ?
it will resolve in time, its just not fun while its happening. I find, that no matter how much boiling or scrubbing, you just have to ride it out. You can add nerite snails to munchh on it, they love the fungus, as do ancistrus and amanos shrimp and even otos or most grazers in general.
Rachel O'Leary , so instead of making my tank look like crap, can I just put it in a bucket of water and leave it set changing water twice a week ? or does the water need to be aerated ? ( just set up a top fin 5 gal, and next day boom snot all over the spider wood ) friends come over to see the new tank and go wtf, does all driftwood and root stock do it ? Or just certain types ?
That may work, but it will likely take 4-6 weeks for it to resolve. All wood does it, some more than others. Manzanita and spider wood get significant fungus, mopani and malaysian less.
;w; what a beautiful and wonderful fish room!! Magical! So much effort, a labor of love.
Fishroom redesign is really 👍🏻.
As soon as I turn o. My filter water gets cloudy do you know what that is
What kind of paint did you use to paint the frames of your tanks black?
Rustoleum
Rachel O'Leary thank you! And thank you for always being so responsive and helpful in the comments section!!! I really appreciate it!
I feel it is the point of having a comments section :) I TRY and get back to folks when I can!
Haha true! Well I believe it’s one of the reasons you are so loved by the fish fam!!!! You expertise is rare, so people appreciate when you share your knowledge... I know I do!
Thanx for the update! Great to see how the fish room revamp is coming along!
Can we get a tubdate please?
yea, next week for sure. People seemed pretty bored with it, so I was waiting until harvest time for an update.
I can't wait for your Big boys to get their tank makeover!
A dragon goby would Be hella cool in it
This is all super exciting! I'm so happy to see all the re-organisation to make your life much easier in the long run. Plus it looks great!
Beautiful work!!
Hey Rachel, nice update on your fishroom. How long do you run your lights on your planted aquariums. I’m only running mine about 6 hours but still have Algae issues. Tank is set up well over a year now. Cheers
about 6.5 hours a day
Loving what your doing with the fish room 😍
Hi Rachel. What is that "wormy" thing that poked it's head out of the buse around the 6.08 mark?
that was an eroding flower bud
It's been 11 months since the last fish room tour.... I'm glad you were thinking what I was thinking🤣🤣🤣 can't wait till faze 2
i just did one a few weeks ago!
Hey Rachel! I think you should look into species of stream darters and or try sculpins! ( I think darters would work well, not sure about the sculpins, but it might be cool!) Keep up these fantastic projects!
i have worked with darters in the past- cool fish. Problem is availability
Can someone give me the name of the tall flowing plant I’ve been looking for some tall flowing plants
i think crypt balansae
"black trim", thank uuu, that's been killing my ocd! heheheheee
Hillstream: Did you supplement the grazers food upon introduction to the freshened tank?
Not with aufwuchs replacer yet, as I added some rocks with algae growth and knew the wood was gonna go bonkers
Yes please to any goby Rachel I love them.
I can now see and understand the vision you have for the fish room and it looks like it will work great! My question is, why not include (atleast the preparation for) the larger big boy tank so they can have their forever home? To me it seems the penjeng has taken up the space I thought would be used for the Big boys
I have to move everything else before I can even consider building a bigger tank for the big boys. otherwise, there is no room to build it. Like these larger racks, it will have to be constructed IN the fishroom.
Those Amanos are huuuuge
Ahh the infamous "sugar fungus". That's what I call it. It's my understanding that the remaining sugars in the wood pretty much always grows this fungus. I just put up with it until it run its course. I did love that hunk of manzanita though... it still look good even with the fungus.
yea, its just annoying, not problematic
It may be too soon, but when you're ready I'd really love to see the fish, etc. you have for sale!
Rachel, it's great to see the 150 progressing. I recall the first time that the "fuzz" showed up in my tanks, and thought I had done something wrong. What a relief to learn that it was a common thing and just requires patience while it runs its course. I have learned that there is very little about this hobby (ok, pretty much nothing) that doesn't require patience. After a year of hoping and waiting, I discovered sewellia fry in my tank last week! Thanks for being the inspirational person that you are :)
I did a podcast yesterday with scott fellman and talked a bit about patience being my number one tip. Congrats on the fry!!
@@RachelOLeary it is hard to keep up with all the different media postings. Where can I/we find this podcast? I definitely want to give it a listen!
@@OnefishTwofishROC I will post a link on my community tab,ig story , and business FB when I have it
Looking so dang good. I wanna sit in the chair lol
That ficus is so showy. Lov'n it!
I can't find those small mini river stones, I love them.
So excited to see you progress, with all the new stuff in the fish room. 😊
Stina M N H I find them along the nearby river (Rio Grande). Also, landscaping suppliers likely have them at an affordable price.
Sicyopus cebuensis in the Philippines is a beauty but unfortunately there have been reports that they may be already extinct.
Rediscovered! Yay, take that extinction-

I feel like you’re looking younger as the years go by lol.
I might have asked before but do u start your plants out as seeds?? If u do or have or if u know do I start them in dirt first or in some water
I do not start them from seeds
@@RachelOLeary do you have any suggestions to help me out
I'm so excited to one day see what that fish room can REALLY hold down there :)
me too!
