Great video. how did you find this Ais receiver in the garmin mfd? we are looking at upgrading our sailboat network from nmea 1083 to nmea 2000 and this radio seems the most budget friendly way for the chart plotter to receive the radio and ais

Most of the Garmin MFDs I have seen have a settings page, and from there a communications page. From the manual for this unit: Settings > Communications On this page were Serial Port, 0183, 2000, and wireless settings. Then: NMEA 2000 Settings - Select Settings > Communications > NMEA 2000 Setup. Device List: Displays the devices connected to the network.
So finding the device list with the Radio/AIS unit shown was relatively straightforward. But it only appears when the unit is connected via 2000 and powered on. (Made that mistake once!) And this is an optional step just to reassure yourself it is connected, it works as soon as everything is hooked up and turned on.
One of the things I love about the N2K network is how easy it is. If you have it connected right with the power and the terminators, the information exchange between units is seamless. I always struggled with the 0183 network whenever there was more than one device. I highly recommend the upgrade.
