This battle would’ve probably happened in real life if Japan was not nuked before it.

This battle actually did happen. There was a earlier attack in March that didn’t do much then this one in July. Operation Downfall, the invasion of Japan would have happen if the atomic bombs were not used.

Several ships were attacked and sunk including the battleships Haruna, Ise and Hyuga, the heavy cruisers Aoba and Tone, the light cruiser Oyodo and the Unryu class aircraft carriers Amagi and Katsuragi, the light carrier Ryuho and the escort carrier Kaiyo. Kind of ironic isn't it? The Japanese attacked the US Navy ships at Pearl Harbor in 1941 and now five years later in 1945 the US Navy attacked the Japanese ships at their home port of Kure.
