    Great advice. I'm just topped $13,000 with 1864 clips. I have a about 4-6 clips that sell all the time. One thing I know I need to do is get more people in my portfolio.

    • @JKCvideo
      @JKCvideo  Год назад

      Congrats! That's a much better ratio per clip than I have with my library. It does seem like content with people in it is the hardest to source which also means that it's the easiest to sell!

      @3sat_arte_zdf Год назад +2

      those who sells multiple times are also visible higher in search... that's the trick, if you manage to have more sales of one clip than you keep it higher, rarely someone sort out search for fresh content and agencies are sorting out most popular first, no matter the niche...

      The black box charges to much for their services . 15% is a bit much for one of job. The bigger you grow the more £££ they get. Forever 🤷‍♂️. stocks take 60%, then black box 15% of what left over. Basically they partially own your portfolio. Is it worth it?

    • @JKCvideo
      @JKCvideo  Год назад +1

      @@sergeikorotkov it's a valid question! Some people will say it's worth it and some people will say it's insane. For me personally, I'm not going to individually upload my portfolio of 10K clips to all of the stock sites and keep track of each of their revenue flows + contracts. Would I make more money? Yes! Would it take me more time and effort doing menial tasks that I don't enjoy? Most definitely! I see stock footage as a way for me to be creative with a camera so if someone else wants to handle the "how does money come in" problem then I'm open to that solution!

    A few questions and a comment.
    First the comment. Good job keeping at it. It is a slow journey and worth it in the end and continues to grow for sure. You are an example of that.
    Before I get to my questions. I personally have been getting back into production after being out of it because of a career change. My fiancée and I have great opportunity to be full time RV living. She sold her house a year ago and since September of 2022, we have been on the road. Travelled several states so far, seen a lot of national and state parks. I do take time to film what I can. I do a lot of timelapse and basic stock type shots. I have two cinema cameras (BMPCC 4K's) and a basic DSLR. There is a big challenge in promoting me as a business doing filmmaking, editing, VFX, etc because we mobile and not stationary. So I thought I could at least focus a lot of what I do in the stock footage game as well.
    I signed up for Pond5, Adobe Stock and Blackbox. I haven't really dove full in yet because I am getting my footage organized and processed. Tons of clips in can already.
    Questions:
    1) For someone like me, would it be worth going to each agency site and submitting content rather than sharing the profits with Blackbox, etc?
    2) Is it possible to make this a fulltiime job being as I travel all over the US shooting video with my three cameras and my cell phone constantly?
    3) I have my own model release for my business and it basically states I can use the content shot for anything. Have you shot any content of unique situations and have a model release ready via digital and explain what you are doing? And where they ok with it?
    Thanks again and I just subscribed to your channel. Good job!!

    • @JKCvideo
      @JKCvideo  Год назад +1

      Thank you for the kind words ~ so cool to hear about your life on the road!
      1. I'm sure that you'd make more money working directly with each agency but I'm also sure that it would be a massive time commitment. I am personally open to making a bit less with BlackBox so that they handle all of the business side of things. I am a creator first and a business person second so I want to spend my time capturing beautiful content, not digging through the recent contract updates from 1 of the 15 sites that I sell stock footage on. But that's honestly going to be a personal evaluation!
      2. It would take A LOT to make stock footage a full time job. With my stock library of nearly 10,000 clips I am averaging close to $1,000 per month. I know of some people that have relentlessly uploaded content so they are making magnitudes more than me but the amount of time and effort required is enormous. You do however have the benefit of being able to film all of the places you're visiting and that will create a wide variety of content selling opportunities!
      3. I'm not 100% sure but I think you need them to sign a BlackBox media release which really outlines the use of stock content. I don't typically include identifiable faces so I'm not certain! There is a very helpful "Success Guide" and supportive Facebook group if you want to learn even more!
      Best of luck, I hope you find the right creative fit for your creative life!

      @@JKCvideo Thank you for the response. I guess my other motive, besides passive income, with what I am doing is building a brand and web presence with all my examples of footage I shot. I could see that getting accomplished if I have my website alongside a portfolio on the various stock site platforms. Submitting to Blackbox you are lost in the mix, so to speak. No one knows you filmed that clip.

    • @JKCvideo
      @JKCvideo  Год назад

      @@stopframemedia YES!! I talk about this portfolio building technique in this video as well as my $10K video but you should be benefitting from ALL aspects of the footage. Sell it on stock sites, share your dope shots on social media, and include the content in your reel!

    I made bout $200k in my peak year, but it has been downhill since. Now I only make less than half of that with 2x clips. Many top contributors quit or sold their clips in the last few years. It's not a very sustainable business now.
