Something about hearing, “for this recipe you will need” just sets my mind/soul at ease. Something greatly needed during these days. Thank you for posting and the work you put into these videos. I hope everyone is staying as safe and healthy as possible during this season.
Nillie nope she didn’t, BB burnt up her Turkey had the whole house filled with smoke! BB sadly had Chinese takeout🥡for Thanksgiving! It’s all about priorities nowadays😏
14:22 - Kathy's such an amazing person that she even knows the correct way to pet a dog: a scratch on the head, a rub of the ear, and a couple quick thumps to the chest. Dogs LOVE this.
I was terrified to see Kathy out of character because I feared she could be a totally different person from the idea of her that I have in my mind, and break the magic, But I'm glad I did, she is just so charming!!!! and talented!!!! And I absolutely love her dress!!!
Dr Anne Gray is such a humble lady and I love her sense of humor! It's evident to me that she is passionate about her job as a food historian. Kathy, on the other hand, never ceases to entertain and amaze. Merry Christmas everyone! 🥳🥳🥳
It’s my birthday today and my in laws gifted me this cookbook because they know how much I love history and watch this channel. I’m so excited to start making the recipes!!! 💙
Plum bread and cheese is a common Lincolnshire specialty. Also my grandads favourite thing to do with Christmas pudding was to fry slices in butter and serve with cream :)
Three to five inches of girth apiece for corset and blouse. One inch extra, each, for the apron and shift. About 5 to 7 yards of fabric goes into the skirt, and 2/3 of that into the petticoat, at least. Just guessing.
@ Connie P Victorian husbands must have been very surprised, when they saw their wives without all their bulky corsets&pettycoats for the first time. In The Book of Snobs (1848) by William Makepeace Thackeray the author mentiones the lady of the manor, who looked huge in her formal gown (with stiff corset and crinoline under the dress); but when he saw her through the window, walking in the garden in the simple morning clothes, he said: "Oh my God, what a perfect slim figure she has!"
You know, as an American, I am totally ok with just ignoring Thanksgiving and having two whole months of preparing and trying various meals from Mrs Crocombe's cookbook! lol
I am a proud owner of the "How to cook the victorian way" book and a copper bowl and I love them both dearly! The nesselorde cream quickly became a family favourite! Loved this video, very cozy but also full of great humor and a ton of information!
In Lithuania we also have a form of apple cheese which is basically a jam squeezed and into a cheese mold and dried to a point where you can eat as a sweet cheese. It's really lovely!
Can we appreciate the editor of this vid? Dr Gray and Kate as well? They're like my history teacher who could be so sarcastic and making it entertaining at the same time! Thank you!
This whole video is amazing. I love when we see Kathy as herself. But the best treat of all is the doggo. And scolding him that he can't walk in and walk away because they know people love dog cameos
Dr. Annie Gray, thank you for all of your behind the scenes work to keep history alive in the preservation of Audrey End and these marvelous videos that allow us to step back in time and see how the Victorians lived, dressed, lived and ate. And sharing the recipes of the real Mrs Avis Crocombe! You are appreciated. Merry Christmas.
I was SO SO excited to see that this cookbook is now available for kindle. The physical copy is a dream to have but alas conversion into Canadian dollars is painful.
The headpiece Kathy wearing reminds me of a starry tiara worn by many members of the Dutch royal family. One of the wearers was a brunette, like Kathy, Queen Sophie of the Netherlands (born a princess of Württemberg).
Happy for a new video. After cooking and cleaning all day for Thanksgiving I have decided I need a staff like Audley House and my very own Mrs Crocombe.
Buttered Weetabix! A favourite of my late father (with jam, he preferred strawbery) I had no idea other people did this. Brought back fond memories, thank you Dr. Annie.
I have been looking all over for this recipe, thank you. My grandmother used to make this when I was a child accompanied with a brandy hard sauce. The sauce is what makes the difference. I remember well the crunch of the fig seeds. It was not a sweet pudding, but sweet enough… Because it was the sauce that made all the difference. I have never had Weetabix, but in my memory this was absolutely delicious. Across the pond here in America, most recipes have way too much sugar for me. Looking forward to trying this.Thank you.
Omy goodness, I am soooooo excited, I got my cookbook in the mail yesterday and cannot wait to cook some of the amazing recipes I've watched! Many blessings to you all!!
I love these videos so much they are helping me work out the recipes of my grate grandmother's food that I really miss from my childhood. As all her recipes are pretty hard to work out I swear she must of written them in a person short hand or something.
I have to prepare for an appointment I have in a few minutes, but I can't stop watching your videos or even pause this one haha Great job 😄✨ I'm not even mad at myself for procrastinating now 🙈
Kathy and Mrs Crocombe saying “for this recipe you will need” in unison is the multiverse of madness I didn’t know I needed
The cool thing is that she is Mary Ann her maid
In short Mrs. Crocombe would say (on the figs in this recipes) "you could use dried figs that come in tins... they won't be as nice."
(They probably wouldn´t have come in tins but get packed in paper or something, but otherwise I agree.)
She loved throwing shade
"....the NOT as good ones...!"
With that Mrs. Crocombe look; oh my!
They won't be as nice - but for the PEASANTS at the work house, they'll be just foine. ( That's my contribution to add to the end of yours ,:p
Two sad little eyes appear at the end staring at the food 😂 what an adorable doggy
I'm still missing Edgar, the third gardener at Audley End
We need a greenhouse episode from Audley End!
Yes!! 110% agree.
@@spacewolfcub True... Maybe in late winter or early spring...? Some advice how to plant herbs etc. would be great!
I’m more curious about Lord and Lady Braybrooke
You do have a good point

❤❤❤❤
Yes. Agree totally.
💜💜
I still can't shake off seeing Kathy as Mrs. Crocombe even though she isn't acting here.
Her accent is similar. Her gestures are also much the same, as is her poise and posture.
Her clothes, speech and vocabulary are the biggest changes.
@@catherinejustcatherine1778 plus makeup.
@@dogwalker666
Yes, that too. Plus hair & no hat or apparent hair accessory of any sort.
@@catherinejustcatherine1778 indeed when she is in character you dont realise how pretty she is.
They're not the same person. This is a cover story. Mrs crocombe is in the corner glaring at them to keep up the facade
My oven timer is going off, but my turkey will have to wait until I finish watching this.
I hope you just paused the video for a moment, turned off the oven, and let the turkey rest while you finished watching.
Nillie nope she didn’t, BB burnt up her Turkey had the whole house filled with smoke! BB sadly had Chinese takeout🥡for Thanksgiving! It’s all about priorities nowadays😏
Genuinely love the very polite figurative middle finger to the people "correcting" the French on the "gateau de pommes" issue.
Just a little Mrs. Crocombe shade, if you will.
The “for this recipe, you will need:..” turn to the camera and pose moment made me so happy. Thanks 🤩 love these videos
"YOU WILL NEED" 😄😭
I now want to find some molds for fancy holiday desserts
I NEED A PINEAPPLE MOLD! They are very fashionable!

I had forgotten about cake decorating shops. Are they prevalent? Perhaps a posh cooking shop? (Not quite so rare in my area. )

A great alternative to the confused lady meme is at 3:23. You are wecome.
I love the dog peeking from behind the table
What a good girl!
Annie needs her own show, those bloopers at the end killed me
I genuinely enjoy these videos where Kathy teams up with Annie to cook.
3:51 "For this recipe, you will need..." in stereo!
I was terrified to see Kathy out of character because I feared she could be a totally different person from the idea of her that I have in my mind, and break the magic, But I'm glad I did, she is just so charming!!!! and talented!!!! And I absolutely love her dress!!!
For this recipe, you will need... ICONIC !! I received my copy this week. It's really great.
Great to hear you're enjoying the book, Michael!
Dr Anne Gray is such a humble lady and I love her sense of humor! It's evident to me that she is passionate about her job as a food historian. Kathy, on the other hand, never ceases to entertain and amaze. Merry Christmas everyone! 🥳🥳🥳
I love the way she is enjoying being herself now! She was kinda shy and low in her first interview.
the doggo's little shifty eyes at 15:34 melted my heart x
Aww..that dog looks so cute.
Agreed.
Suddenly a wild Gateau de Pomme appears!
It’s my birthday today and my in laws gifted me this cookbook because they know how much I love history and watch this channel. I’m so excited to start making the recipes!!! 💙
Happy belated birthday! That was so thoughtful of them! What has been your favorite recipe thus far?
Kudos for the editing job, made me laugh so hard! Also, A+ head ornaments. But nothing beats the humor ;)
Well stated!
Both ladies are delightful, they make missing Ms. Crocombe less painful.
I miss Mrs. Crocombe... Please Come Back
Plum bread and cheese is a common Lincolnshire specialty. Also my grandads favourite thing to do with Christmas pudding was to fry slices in butter and serve with cream :)
That sounds delicioussss
Kathy Hipperson = Beauty, Grace, Elegance and Taste😍😍😍
Kathy Hipperson is so tiny! That Mrs. Crocumbe get-up makes her look so big.
This! Mrs. Crocombe looks like a not-quite-stout, shapely and formidable authority.
Yet Kathy looks like a Christmas fairy! 😂

@@catherinejustcatherine1778 You are so right,- all this old-fashioned attire adds a lot of bulk to female figure.

My thoughts exactly
You know, as an American, I am totally ok with just ignoring Thanksgiving and having two whole months of preparing and trying various meals from Mrs Crocombe's cookbook! lol
That’s a great idea! I’m 100% behind that idea. That would make a great video series
A season of giving thanks for English Heritage?
if you're not gonna be a true american, well then get the hell out of my country
I'm with you! Sounds exciting

You are so lucky to have received your copy! Mine is being delayed, by the publisher, it seems, till who knows when.
Who’d have guessed Mrs Crocombe was such a beauty without that cap on her head!
You're right... She must be a parking ticket, because she has "fine" written all over her.

I find it amazing how quickly Mrs Crocombe adapt with modern times
She is a timelord
"Reminds me a bit of weetabix". Peak British comment of the year.
Omg Mrs. Crocomb looks so beautiful in her Christmas decor!!! Lol
In Lithuania we also have a form of apple cheese which is basically a jam squeezed and into a cheese mold and dried to a point where you can eat as a sweet cheese. It's really lovely!
Was eyeing the cream cake on the right side during the entire video!! Lol
Love Annie.. almost like shes angry theres "No Plums"... its an affront.. Get this woman some plums stat!
There's no way I could resist not pouring the rest of that brandy in the mix! lol

I am living for that jadeite green cabinet behind Kathy Hipperson to the right.
It's really good to see the actresses being themselves on these shows, please continue the wonderful work!! 😊

The book is such a joy to read or even to just leave through. Beautifully made and with a wealth of information.
We're glad you're enjoying it, Christa.
I cannot take my eyes off that sparkly turkey sweater! I want one!
Kathy looks so great! Not a thing like Mrs Crocombe, which speaks volumes about makeup, wardrobe and her brilliant acting.

I'm picking mine up at Barnes and Noble tomorrow.
IT'S IN KINDLE?! *Runs off to my Kindle*

I got into these videos during quarantine and since then I can't stop!
YES! This duo is wonderful! LOVE LOVE LOVE Annie and Kathy together! PLEASE keep these videos coming!
I got mine shipped to me last week. I am in love with this book! Great recipes and history combined!
Great to hear you're enjoying it, Jess!
I love getting all the historical details!
My cheeks hurt from smiling through this video.
Awwww u made me 😊
😁😁😁
I’m joining in!
Absolutely! This was so much fun.
Watching her learn from someone else just feels like watching Mrs. Crocombe learning in her own kitchen maid days to me!!!
So I gather that "plum" is most likely candied peel and currants, after watching Mrs. Crocombe's videos.
What a great way to kick off the holiday season! and I’m always glad to see more of Annie 🥰
I miss Mrs Crocumbe!
YES!! MRS. CROCOMBE IS BACK! You ladies are THE BEST and I love watching your videos! Thank you sooo much for posting, I cannot wait to see more!
I just want to say the music choice in every English Heritage video is just 👌👌 sets the mood perfectly for the occasion

I have a friend who collects antique ice cream molds. I can only imagine what else they could be used for.
Jelly both sweet and savoury,
I love the "no plums" meme 🤣
I love the dynamic between Annie and Kathy, would love more casual vids like this discussing historic foods
Awww...Kathy loves her dog, and Dr. Annie is delightful...
Lovely to see behind the scenes. 🧡
Thank you for the charming video and historical lesson, ladies. Merry Christmas to you both (and the pupper)
I get a French and Saunders vibe watching these two lovely ladies.
They made all that just to show us and talk about it! ❤🥺😊
Happy for a new video. After cooking and cleaning all day for Thanksgiving I have decided I need a staff like Audley House and my very own Mrs Crocombe.
