    Jeff you are correct on the pricing. Fortunately for me and my community the local garden club had a seed exchange today. Ten packs of seeds for the $10. entry fee. Went with a neighbor and we now have twenty varieties plus the seeds we saved from this last year. Also check with the local Dollar Stores for inexpensive "run of the mill" common seeds. I can't wait to begin this year. Our outdoor planting time here in the Mother Lode starts around Mothers Day. Thanks for your help

    I noticed the increased prices for seeds, so I try to keep last year's seeds in reserve when possible.
    The only seeds I bought this year that dropped in price, more seeds in package were Paprik peppers.
    UBC has an eco seed site for locally grown seeds, they're reasonably priced.
    I just got the Paprik seeds down, last frost is end of March. (Sorta)
    Lettuce is down, and I might get kohlrabi done this weekend. Sweet peas are going in on the weekend, protected from wind, close to a wall, full sun. They should be good.
    This stuff is addictive. 🤣

    I've sown about 500 starter pots so far and spent $6 on seeds, all for new varieties. The rest are from last year's harvest. Last year I spent $0 and gave away lots of seeds. Don't ya wish you could do that with microwave ovens, washing machines, and cars? Well, if you're handy with repairs you almost can.

    I bought some seeds this week, to start this weekend, here in Maastricht (Netherlands). I also encountered prices here that rose a lot. I was thinking I had some high premium seeds of exotic variants, but no. Unbelievable. It seems it is not only here, since you too noticed this. Therefor better to collect seeds from some plants, so you can use them next year.
    I now am battling my softnacks. They all are hanging, sopil is moist though. I took them inside, behind the glass. Hope they make it.

      @@TheRipeTomatoFarms Thanks for the suggestions. I have a cheap heat mat without a thermostat. I measured the temperature under the seed tray with a meat thermometer. If it was any where near correct, it was over 90 degrees. I turned the dial way down and it is now around 80 degrees. I'm going to keep checking, I might just order me a new one with a thermostat. Thanks again for your help.😊

    Yes the price of seeds are crazy. I have always kept my own as much as I could. But as a plant growing lover. Yes I love to grow, have done it from age 7 and we'll say I'm over 50. I have to grow something I've never grown before or in a long time since. And have to buy seeds. Wow it's crazy we have to start trading our seeds with other growers. That would improve the price if enough of us do it. Great video

    I'm converting the laundry room in my garage (no longer a laundry room) into a seed starting/grow room and I have a very small spare humidifier that I'm not doing anything with. If I put the little humidifier in there what is the best humidity percentage for the first 1 - 2 months of a tomato and pepper plant's life?

    • @TheRipeTomatoFarms
      @TheRipeTomatoFarms  8 месяцев назад

      Sounds promising! You don't really need a humidifier though. Tomatoes and peppers are tropical but they don't require any special humidity settings. Just temperature and light are important.

    I started several types of pepper seeds in one tray. One type of pepper seed germinated way before the others (sadly some haven't germinated). The ones that germinated first grew leggy while I was waiting for the others to germinate. Some of the others barely reached the surface when I removed them from the heat and put under grow lights. How do I save the leggy seedlings?

      @@shirleyk623 girl, I have 7000 sq ft of garden space to fill. That's a lot of seeds and with the prices of seeds that we're seeing now, that's a lot of money. You can fit 10 packets in a pocket easy so you have 20 packets in the front 20 packets in the back and that's about $200 saved right there. You have to have very good sleight of hand though so I wouldn't recommend it to beginners. You have to be a seasoned Thief to pull off a heist like that 😎
