  • The world doesn’t lack for creative ideas-it lacks people to champion them. Once you have an idea, how do you communicate it? Adam Grant, Wharton’s top-rated professor and a New York Times bestselling author of Originals, will share insights on how to speak up without getting silenced, and how to find allies in unexpected places.

My next door neighbor plays the drums wearing headphones, we are constantly trying to guess the song. When we meet him we always ask him what's the music.
    Great talk.

Great talk. It gave me a lot to think about. The only exception I take is the notion that contriving a higher quantity of ideas can make one more successful. Successful inventors/composers/etc aren't geniuses because they had more ideas (thought they may have) but rather because they were willing to follow a 'bad' idea all the way to the point they realized either it really was bad or it was revolutionary.
Tenacity can cut both ways but if you can't follow a crazy idea (possibly for years) to its conclusion then you won't originate anything beyond minor incremental innovations. Truly disruptive ideas come from long painful periods of mostly confusion, discouragement, and tedium. The willingness and capacity to tolerate all that for an idea that stimulates no one but you is the mark of true genius. It won't happen because you threw more crap at a wall than you did before.

I think the point is that you follow up on your bad ideas, run them enough down the line so to speak, to find out what parts of it are possible to use for another idea. To make an example, you pick working parts from several broken cars to repair and optimize one supercool car.

Very interesting talk, I started to listen to more of Adam's work based off of a short Ted talk we did about Originals. This is a better long form of that topic.

It sounds cool to be a nonconformist, but in reality it usually isn't a great career move, especially in some big corporate companies. That why midwits thrive in these places.
