  • Thousands of scouts at an international event in South Korea are being evacuated from a campsite due to an incoming typhoon.
Several countries including the UK had already left the World Scout Jamboree, blaming high temperatures and poor sanitary conditions at the camp.
Hundreds had fallen ill amid 35C (95F) heat, with scouts from the UK among those affected by heat exhaustion.

The problem of this Jamboree 2023
    1. They used the rice paddy farming area, which is indispensable when water is full, as a camping site.
That place couldn't even be used as a camping site
    - According to the confirmation, the Minister of Gender Equality and Family of the Republic of Korea only said has completed the renovation,
but the water didn't drain at all.
    (So they escape for Typhoon...)
    2. Not even prepared for the heat wave
    - Under the sun without a shadow of a tree.
    - Humidity is extremely high and the number of tree shades was too low.
    3. It is a land built of farmland, so mosquitoes and other insects are swarming.
    4. Controversial for providing poor and moldy foods
    5. Unsanitary sink -> There was a trash can next to the sink.
    6. The bathroom was also unsanitary and dirty
    7. Making excuses for safety, and block media from Camping site away.
The reality was to prevent them from being exposed to their bare face.
    8. While Jamboree students suffer from the sun and get bitten by bugs
The organizing committee booked a pension with a lot of tree shade and air conditioning
They were having a pizza party
    - Therefore, this pathetic organizing committee did not know that American and British scouting members were leaving even at the moment they withdrew.
Only when the infiltrated journalists disclosed it they known they're leaving.
    9. As Korean student's participation in Jamboree was low, elementary school students who did not even complete the first-degree course were also invited to break regulations and fill their heads to fill their performance.
    - Obviously, there were elementary school participants, but the committee denies this.
    10. The meal was not properly prepared, the heat wave preparation, the insects were not prepared, and the typhoon was not prepared.
They withdrew their children from Saemangeum under the pretext of a typhoon coming on August 11th
    - Through nature's outdoor activities, children from all over the world get along and interact
Jamboree's identity and purpose are trampled on
    11. Later, it turned out that s.Korea government and politicians were spent about the Jamboree budget for trips to Europe, wine tasting, cruise trips, etc
    12. Seoul(The capital city on s.Korea) The mayor said that you were lucky because who arrived at the hotel.
(He said because Others found accommodation far away from Seoul....It's ridiculous remarks)
    13. The Minister of Gender Equality and Family, who came out to brief on the situation
We are not guilty, the range of Jamboree activities has only been expanded, the thermal disease was not serious, and the Ministry of Public Administration and Security came out next to us after repeatedly saying that everything is improving
The Secretary of State, who was sitting next to him, was all over the place
    He didn't say anything nutritious.
    ...
Do you think the Jamboree crew came to Korea spending $600-700 to see the K-pop concert?
I'm a Korean and I'm so deplorable that such pathetic politicians are the politicians of my country.
The main culprits of this incident are officials in Jeollabuk-do, South Korea who used the Jamboree camping site as their main budget in farmland, the Ministry of Gender Equality and Family, and the Ministry of Public Administration and Security, which were neglecting the safety of children.
It seems that the Korean media is not properly talking about the suffering of the children in Jamboree.

As a Korean, I feel sorry for the situation. Jeolla-do, the province where the scouts were camping in, is a region that is infamous for its cartelized and corrupt society. The cartel of the local government and interest groups took advantage of the Jamboree event by sucking up the national government budget. They received almost 250M USD from the national government but did nothing, as many people witness. It is so unfortunate that the scouts had horrendous experiences in Jeolla-do, a premodern and near-feudal region of South Korea. I apologize for the whole mess. Hope the scouts have a good time in other normal regions in South Korea during the remaining period.

Countries that sent members to the World Jamboree Scouts should sue the Korean government. It is also questionable why the construction of the Jamboree main building, which will be completed in a year, has been delayed so lukewarmly. A year ago, the host minister said the Jamboree event was perfect, but this time it wasn't. There are so many patients with heat symptoms such as sunstroke, heatstroke, dehydration, etc., but there is no shade properly, and I can't even sit and rest. Does this make sense at an international competition? It is true that the Jamboree event fosters the survival skills of the scout members. But I think it's a little too much this time.

Many Koreans are currently quite upset about how the government and local council poorly organised the event, facilities, and food, and overlooked the consequences of the hot weather. 😥We sincerely apologise for this. I think the British Jamboree made the right decision to prioritise the students' health and well-being. The Korean government is currently working diligently to rectify the situation and is offering free entry to cultural sites, events, museums, and site tour buses for the Jamborees. I hope our government can provide further assistance to the UK Jamborees while they are in Korea. I may be quite critical about how the Korean government and local council operated the camping site, but most people in Korea believe that it was due to mismanagement and poor organisation. Currently, the government is making efforts to support scouts as much as possible. While I think their support might not be perfect for serving more than 40,000 scouts, if you check RUclips or other social media platforms, you will see that all scouts have now been evacuated and are engaging in alternative activities supported by local councils and the South Korean government. The UK scouts ought to consider legal action against the Korean government's Yoon administration. They shouldn't bear the financial burden that they are clearly not accountable for. Beyond the unfortunate climate circumstances, the more significant issue is the complete lack of preparedness stemming from the government's unprofessionalism. This administration seems fixated on displaying condescension and is essentially holding scouts from around the world hostage for the sake of K-pop. There appears to be a misguided belief that concluding the event with K-pop performers will magically resolve all issues and bring about a sense of happiness. Shame on them.

All these 45,000 young people are leaving South Korea not with golden memories but only of hardship, lack of care, lack of cooling overarching architectural forward thinking huge shade covers, and alternatives for approaching typhoons. Yoon's government shows again as it did in the Itaewon Stampede tragedy, the failure to help college age students and the absurd Conscription of successful young internationally loved actors and musical groups like BTS, that it is living in a 1968 world not the third decade of the twenty-first century. On behalf of Korean, I really feel sorry to everyone who participated in Jamboree. In Korea, there is a maxim about this situation- I can't say any words even if I have 100 mouths. It is exactly what I think of now. And what I really sad is that this Jamboree's topic is "Draw a dream". I really hope that this situation wouldn't crash the cherishable dreams of our precious children in Jamboree. I'm also so shame to the students as an adult. Now, many students are moving toward other cities and experiencing other special activities due to Typoon, poor preparation of facilities and diseases,(unfortunately) etc. And according to Korean news paper, they seemed to have better time in other cities. What did cause this terrible situation? Well, I think the main problem is Korea society that passed over a rapid economic growth. In fact, even 70 years ago, Korea was poor and hungry country because of the war. However, over the industrilization, our country made rapid growth till now. So the politician's generation is that of poor and hungry country's Naturally, their moral notion is still living in 1960s~1970s, too poor and immoral, cruel era. After all, Korea is an odd country that its consciousness is undeveloped, while its economy and industry is developed. Finally, I think the sideeffect like this caused today's issue. By the same reason, capital of Korea(Seoul) is well-developed,but other regions didn't, especially Jeollado which contains Saemangem, the Jamboree host region.
I don't think this social problem can justify the Jamboree faults. But I just guessed which was the main problem. According to Korea news, Jeollado's public offifals took a trips using Korean's tax for Jamboree event. WHAT a suprise is that, they still plan the other trip with our tax even though they were criticized. Furthermore, they said that they are now preparing China and North Korea Jamboree. In fact, North Korea didn't join boy scouts. In other word, the goverment officials are just saying thoughtlessly. They mustn't have any guilty, I guess.
After all, I'm so sorry to everyone who believed my goverment and my country and us, Koreans. It's such a great shame to me. I wish every Jamboree students have great time after they went to other region.

4,500!! I had to rewind and listen to that several times.
A quick check on a carbon offset website shows that flying 4,500 people to South Korea from the UK and back would emit about 12,000 tonnes of carbon dioxide. I'm all up for Scouting and having a good time out of doors but these are young people whose world is being destroyed. The organisers are complicit in the climate change that leads to these extreme weather events. The decision to attend has giving these poor kids a terrible legacy. People's lives are not ruined by not flying halfway around the world for an event like this. They are ruined by loss of arable land, sea level rise and starvation and that is what this is contributing to. It is not the ethical behaviour I associated the scouting movement with.
A delegation of a dozen or so going to Korea and everyone else going to France of German for a big camp would have been a far better option for everyone and the planet.
The fact that the media (BBC in particular) still don't link up people flying great distances with the extreme weather they are experiencing at the destination is a major reason we are unable to act on climate change.
BTW: the carbon offset for that 12,000 tonnes of CO2 would cost £232,000 or more and would not have been very effective.
As Scouts we are guided by these values:
Integrity: We act with integrity; we are honest, trustworthy and loyal.
Respect: We have self-respect and respect for others.
Care: We support others and *take care of the world in which we live*.
Belief: We explore our faiths, beliefs and attitudes.
Cooperation: We make a positive difference; we co-operate with others and make friends.

It's concerning to note that the "Jeolla-do (전라도)" local government allegedly utilized over 90% of the $76 million USD for non-project related activities, including overseas amusement trips and questionable engagements with Jeolla-do-based construction companies. It's disheartening to see that a mere 10% appears to have been allocated to the actual camp development.
