CAL you were the energy of Discharge, and for me this was the only lineup that mattered - I met em on tour and spent a few hours on the road with the band. Great guys.
best punkgig ever the energie is motorhead x 10. no one came near this NO ONE..ALL FROM HARDCORE TOO METALICA...ALL...LISTENED TO DISCHARGE NO BAND ON THE PLANET HAD THIS INTENSITY..
jesus christ thats taken me back 27 years,i saw them at Longton town hall along with a load of other punk groups, one was The Veins.Cheers for the blast i remember going home covered in gob what a pisser !!
Rainy used to move about more back then lol! Great clip,my top band, never gets old. Saw them last month and they were fucking good, as usual. Top blokes too.
1.this gig was filmed from 3 angles...this is the camera from the back of the venue and is not shown so often on youtube. 2. Discharge manage to keep it together for 1 minute and 42 seconds...then spectacularly fuck it all up....and so it went on throughout the whole gig...Cal even sings the wrong lyrics to some songs...must be because they are so complicated and hard to remember ! Even though this was still only 83 Bones had gone and the rot was on it's way.....and the Rat too !
no, discharge came out with 3 eps' in 1980. you listen to nervous breakdown record (1978), and all those songs are pretty simple and slow punk. jealous again came out in 1980.
I knew Rainy back in the late 70s, but not sure I remember seeing Discharge, even though I probably did...I think I saw contemporaries Dead Katz, certainly shared a few pints with 'em. down at El Syds in Newcastle u Lyme. Time someone wrote the definitive rock, pop and folk history of Stoke/North Staffordshire music scene.
i've seen bones were black flag shirts in old 80's shows maybe with tez was singing for the band they had that 77 influence sound but when they became hardcore they had a lot of US influence
The second wave of punk or 1982 movement, call it what you will, Discharge were part of a big scene in the early 80's. Have a look at the suggestions on songs from similar bands, some of these tracks are still fresh 30 years on. The Hear Nothing See Nothing Say Nothing album was intense and it is easy to see (hear?) the influence on early Metallica material and no wonder they name check and cover Discharge.
Whilst I doubt Black Flag influenced Discharge they were not from Birmingham, they were from Stoke-on-Trent, and Black Flag formed around 1977 and released their first EP in 1978, before Discharge.
They're all over the place after the solo, I can see why this was never released unlike the GBH set from the same gig....... Wish Discharge had rehearsed properly for this woulda been amazing........ Still ace to see I guess.
FUCK ME, I remember that, I used to be on the stage crew at the vicky hall in Hanley, we HATED punks and punk gigs, everyfucking thing was covered in GOB at the end of the show, used to have to wear gloves to handle their gear,
nah they weren't influenced by us hardcore at really. they were more 77 punk but came out with their own sound. like look at 80's uk bands that were influenced by us hc like the stupids, ripcord or ays do they sound like this no they dont
@BoycottStabb i just saw gbh at the fonda in hollywood in june sound was horrible jock and ross kept looking at eachother but yea well maybe its because this is the time bones left and pooch joined but they could be all druged up lol
@histatimaniples This aint a low budget gig... I hear what your saying tho man, sound on stage can be all over the place. But this was a big gig, the GBH set from the same night is perfect too.... I'm sorry but it either got to them, or they weren't rehearsed enough, just a shame, cus I love Discharge........... It's kinda like calling one of those Goldenvoice concerts from the 80's a backyard show, this stuff was huge in the cities, hundreds went to gigs like this regularly in the UK......
@BoycottStabb sometimes its hard for bands to hear eachother instruments one can only think a low buget punk show must have had some really shity equipment on stage if you haev ever been to alot of shows yo ucan see band members trying to hear eachother and getting thrown off
yes dischcarge did start in 77 but have you heard that stuff with tez as the singer? horrible! i've read somewhere stating that rainy said motorheard ripped them off idk if that was sarcasm. when i meant drunk with power sounded like fix me i meant the chorus riff of drunk with power sounded like black flags fix me riff plus how can you say there not when bones started broken bones trying to sound like american hardcore/thrash look around you'll find the video of bones wearing blackflag t shirt
im not really a fan of broken bones so i cant comment on that but they just dont sound influenced by black flag take a band that clearly is like bl'ast! and compare em to this different. discharge had other influences im afraid however if you said the germs or other 77 american bands.
not really you can hear the black flag influence on discharge i love them both but black flag had a ablum out in 1977 can you really say they didnt start? it first they were labeled hardcore before anyone
Purtill had more of a hard rock/heavy metal background. Although many people would not even know this, but this was around the time discharge slowly started morphing into just a stereo typical hard rock/metal band.
well in books an interviews they never cite black flag as an influence. i see more motorhead to be honest than black flag. there is a slight resemblense of the riff in religion instigates but bones said he doesn't listen to music. drunk with power does not sound at all like drunk with power!!! discharge formed in 77. i don't see it man sorry.
Discharge started punk all over again and so hardcore was born.
I`m old now, but when I listen to this, I feel young again.
possible the best punk band EVER..EVER .MINDBLOWING
CAL you were the energy of Discharge, and for me this was the only lineup that mattered - I met em on tour and spent a few hours on the road with the band. Great guys.

@DOTTYROSETORUNSKI No idea but it went bump years ago, sad times when that went.
i've seen bones were black flag shirts in old 80's shows maybe with tez was singing for the band they had that 77 influence sound but when they became hardcore they had a lot of US influence

THE punk band

@frontroomautos i meant 7inch
Roger Daltrey (The Who) was swinging the mic like a mad man in the 60s, and he probably wasn't the first either.
@ScottTaysom Scott, timing is not the only thing that got off. If you know what I mean. Best video.
No brasil. E no ceara presisa ter bandas rock de verdade

Metallica nicked some songs off Tez Bones, in the early 80's, he's looking into legalities about getting some royalties back off them

hold on guys we got a keyboard warrior here protecting his music
@tefanyenlaluna ehh i'd say they're more like thrashy punk, plus i dont think d beat was made back then, or was it?
discharge has a demo from 77',i have it,its not that great of recording, but its still badass if ur into discharge.
lo cual es raro porque normalmente no dejan hacerlo
@hellofuckitty "If you dont know what D-beat is" : What, is there an internet quiz now to get a Punk Rock membership card?
The bass player was seriously high
@BoycottStabb sometimes its hard for bands to hear eachother instruments one can only think a low buget punk show must have had some really shity equipment on stage if you haev ever been to alot of shows yo ucan see band members trying to hear eachother and getting thrown off
haha did anybody notice the fuck ups on the bass and guitar from 1:41 till the end they are not in sync haha funny shit, good fucking song though..
@tefanyenlaluna
u mean creators of discharge beat?
this is true thats just when black flag was starting. this is the first time i hear this band
sweet. do you remember what songs they played?
didnt they make the song?
yes dischcarge did start in 77 but have you heard that stuff with tez as the singer? horrible! i've read somewhere stating that rainy said motorheard ripped them off idk if that was sarcasm. when i meant drunk with power sounded like fix me i meant the chorus riff of drunk with power sounded like black flags fix me riff plus how can you say there not when bones started broken bones trying to sound like american hardcore/thrash
look around you'll find the video of bones wearing blackflag t shirt
My work is influenced by them.
lol
viva la rata!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This is when Discharge was good! They are still pretty cool with Rat on vocals though. When Bones left the band they really sucked!
im not really a fan of broken bones so i cant comment on that but they just dont sound influenced by black flag take a band that clearly is like bl'ast! and compare em to this different. discharge had other influences im afraid however if you said the germs or other 77 american bands.
this band is so underrated its not even funny.
not really you can hear the black flag influence on discharge i love them both but black flag had a ablum out in 1977 can you really say they didnt start? it first they were labeled hardcore before anyone
The band messed up towards the end they were way off beat!
hahaha they got so off time
one thing missing BONES. i hate pooche's guitar playin
Purtill had more of a hard rock/heavy metal background. Although many people would not even know this, but this was around the time discharge slowly started morphing into just a stereo typical hard rock/metal band.
