I had forgot about this scene, but seeing the thumbnail, the memories rushing back in… may very well be the best scene in all fiction I have ever seen. All of Utawarerumono is so underrated.
I'll never forget this scene no matter what. No other scene in any game hit harder than this. The change in the atmosphere, her expression in her voice, him as well...everything was so perfect about it. Godbless the people that made the series
Utawarerumono's character building might be some of the best I've seen in any form of media, the fact they were able to create such a strong scene with a side character that has appeared a total of 3 times (as far as I''m aware) shows how well built the character of Haku is, That a character just acknowledging what he's been through can be such a strong scene.
The fact that somebody acknowledges the *full weight* of what Haku had to give up, and praise him for it... Honestly, it's one of the reasons why Haku, as Oshtor, was such a compelling MC. And the fact that it was Rulutieh, of all the heroines, who found out... was quite touching... If it were anyone else... I doubt they'd have handled it like she did, and this is *ESPECIALLY* true of Nekone...
"i am sorry that we allowed your true self die" That line make me bawled my eyes out This man woke up to an unfamiliar world, weak and confuse and now has to carry such a big weight and letting himself die to carry on somebody will
Ah yes, the reason why i love utawarerumono, it isn't just "oh no character x died". It's something more, it tries to show characters like humans, not another hero of legends going from a to b without too much thought put into it. What hit me the most is that you knew Haku for entire game, ending of 2nd and entirety of 3rd game was showing his internal struggle and suffering(like go and tell you friends about "your" death and watch them mourn), and that Oshtor's mother understood that and let Haku cry it all out, something he was in desperate need, with all these emotions piling up in him.
I read the novel years ago. Now came here after this scene in the anime some hours ago, to cry once again. Rest in Peace Fujiwara, until today one of my most beloved characters. Oshtor's seiyuu on the anime did a good job on Keiji's shoes.
this part is the most make me sad and cry. there is no mother that didnt know her own son. yet she still acept haku just like his own son. telling haku that its must be hard discarding his own self to become someone else, the feels just keep going....
Only those who understand what Haku has sacrificed to come this far will understand how powerful this scenes is. And for now only Keiji Fujiwara's voice can bring Haku's feelings to life. Maybe he is irreplaceable but I still want to see S2 become reality and kinda excited to see who will become the next voice of Haku. Rest in peace, Keiji.
The weights of "I would like a chance to act as your mother, for once" and "I'll end up forgetting" only pounded the foreshadowing sadness of the whole event
In more ways than one, I understand what Haku is feeling in this scene. I understand that self-loathing very well. I am a shame to my parents. I am merely a burden to them. Many times I have lied to them, and I am also putting a mask on my face, to hide my feelings. That's why I was crying in this scene.
Oh man. Here’s to praying the recently announced season 3/finale adapts this scene well 😭Hoping they keep the emotional ost that played during the scene as well or something even more emotional
After watching Mask of Deception’s ending I was pretty sure it was the most touching scene in whole franchise. And then Mask of Truth delivered me this worthy rival.
Haven't reach the mask of truth, but I swear I still cry at this scene no matter how many time I watch. Haku had to sacrificed too many thing to reach this far. T_T And Keiji Fujiwara, thank you so much for voicing Haku
It will be seven years this year since I lost my mother. And I will always wish for a last moment like this with her for the rest of my life. If your mother is still in this world, no matter what the circumstance. If you can, please try to embrace her and tell her you love her. I will spend my days wishing I could do so.
After I watched this in the anime adaption I must say I enjoyed it more in Keiji Fujiwara's voice, Ukon's va got replaced for him in the anime. but I can say Keiji Fujiwara really puts so much personality in Haku. In season two every funny moment I found myself laughing extra because how the voice actor was a legend in every situation, Rip Keiji Fujiwara.
I have never played the game, but a friend sent me this video to show how rich and powerful the story is, and wow, it really is impressive. Might pick it up soon!
Yep. That had to have been overwhelming for her because she was one of the hardest hit by Haku "dying." At least the others who knew the truth had someone with whom they could talk about it; all the more to admire Rulutieh's strength.

What happened to him?
@@justdev8965 Cancer, he died at age 55.
R.I.P
Oh yeah, Sakurai Takahiro-san had closer personal relationship with late Funkwara Keiji-san.

it was portrayed really well :)
The tears sting. That's what mentioned in this scene, and who doesn't feel the same? It stings so much that it's just painful.

We all dreamed of Reinhardt from Fire Emblem Heroes, and so our prayers have been answered.
It's been over a year since I finished this game, and this scene still wrecks me every time I think about it.

This scene is actually a masterpiece, so peak 😭
This scene and Hakuowlo last moment with Aruruu in the 1st game are still moments I find it hard to hold back the feel, and it was decades ago
the man who voiced haku will always be the best voice actor I've ever had the privilege of listening to
Holy shit it's been a year since i played this game and i still cry every time i watch this scene
Rest in peace you absolute legend
