My 14 year old just got the AF with GX build and DVO coil suspension. He is 5 7 and riding a large. It came with Magura MT5 brakes too and nice Ibis Alloy wheels. It was $3900 at Jensen USA and a exclusive build. No tax or shipping since we live in Nevada. He is loving riding DH tails with it and says it feels playful and fun. This is the best priced bike on the market right now,bike shop or consumer direct. He is doing his first enduro race this weekend at Sky Tavern bike park. Great bike. I want to get one now.
Just got a new Trek Fuel EX 9.8. Haven’t gotten many miles on it yet but the rides I have done I love it. It is smooth and easy for me to handle. I’m only 5’ 6” and i went with a small and it fits me perfect. Pedal safe

I am looking to purchase a new bike this year. I do like your new bike and it is a contender. I presently have a Spot Rollick 150, love it. I am also looking a the Spot Mayhem 29”, build 5 or 6. The spots have a very different feel especially on the climbs. They're more supportive on the climbs and then that carbon leaf spring really comes alive when you point down hill. If you like rear suspension that feels more involved on the climbs (bob's a little but rear tire stays glued to the ground,) ibis is the way to go. The mayhem was my personal bike 3 years ago and I loved the way it climbed.

You'll probably shake your head but I put the Assegais on my Mayhem 130 before riding a bike park and haven't switched them back and still really like them on my regular trails! TONS of great grip! Enjoy!! Oh, I'm the same size as you and just switched my cranks from 170 to 165; Holy cow ,what a game changer!!! I really love the shorter cranks!!
Nice, my husband is a big fan of shorter cranks too. I've tried them a bit on some of his bikes and it's a very interesting experience! I'm completely torn about what tires I want. I've been running specialized butcher and ground control and they're great on pedaly stuff but I want a little more grip on steep stuff. Those assagai are heavy but oh that grip! 🤩
Sweet ride. Your husband just helped me decide on a Marin Team 2. Loving it so far. My full suspension (Cannondale Habit) just got a wheel upgrade as well. Ready for 2022!
I went the opposite route. I went from a carbon bike (norco range C9.3 2017) to a aluminum bike (commencal meta am 29 '21)! Haven't been able to ride my new bike (due to snow here in Quebec), but I'm excited for spring/summer!

I am 5 08 coming off of a medium 27.5 giant trance to the medium ripmo and i could really feel the size difference of the wheels and the bike overall just feels bigger. It is substantially longer looking at them side by side
I've thought about replacing my Ripmo AF with a shorter travel bike, because I almost never need that much travel. But then I hop on my Ripmo and have so much fun, no matter the trail. I think I'll keep it for a while...
Nice review Tess. I’m getting the Transition Sentinel Carbon build frame. I toiled between the Ripmo v2 and the sentinel, but I’ve been extremely happy with my other transition so why not.
Look forward to seeing some more videos with it and see how you like it. Wish my AF didn't have the cable mess down by the water bottle mount.. First thing I did when I got my Ripmo was to switch out those Assegai tires with some Vittoria Mazza's, way easier to peddle, huge difference for me. 🙂
@@dustybettymtb Seems pretty great to me, but I have not ridden on a huge amount of different tires so I am no expert by any means... Maybe slightly less grippy than the Assegai, but for me well worth the trade of being able to peddle.. haha! From what I read some people keep the Assegai on the front and just replace the rear with something a little easier rolling. I changed both out and also went with 2.4 front and back vs the original 2.5(?) so that may have helped also. 🤷🏼♂️
That's the plan! I'm going to run the 38 for a little while till I get the review out (since this is how this bike comes from ibis.) Then the 38 is outta here for something probably a half pound lighter.
I want to see how you get along with the medium vs the small. My wife is the same height as you. I'm 5'10" and I just got a medium Ripmo AF, looking forward to riding it!
I'm excited to talk about it more in my next video. It really helps with some riding to size down, especially when learning certain skills, but I'm really happy with the medium so far and can't wait to talk about it more!
I kinda got a new bike, new frame because of a warranty claim (crack along the weld of the seat tube/ seat stay junction) and a new fork a month ago, before I found the crack. Trek was fast with approving the warranty, only 8 days to get my bike bike
@@dustybettymtb I was glad it didn't fail catastrophically the day before, because I was riding the complete Back 40 and the Ledges in Bentonville, AR. The crack was a quarter inch from being around the whole seat stay weld.
You're absolutely right! But it's an interesting design and I'm excited to experience the ride characteristics of this fork. I also want to ride the build pretty much as is and get a review of the bike out. But this will probably eventually be swapped out for a 36 which will shave a half pound off build.
Did the same as you, put 3k miles on my Ripley last year, fantastic bike btw, but wanted a little more. Really wanted to add a Ripmo to my Ripley, but since my work started selling Specialized e-bikes, I bought a Stumpjumper Evo Expert. Got an Xo1 build for almost half the price of a Rimpo of a similar build. No brainer. 300 mi now on the SJ and just love it....the Ripley is now being neglected collecting dust in the garage lol. Did you sell the Ripley?
I think my husband Steve has the same stump jumper and it's been great. I haven't sold my Ripley yet but I think once I lighten my Ripmo V2 a little with different tires and eventually a different fork, I'll sell the Ripley. I've loved the Ripley well but I've really struggled to get the shock just right. It's a bit prone to bottom out. I mentioned it briefly in my review of that bike thinking it was user error but now I think the rear linkage may just be prone to bottom out.
Just scratching my head wondering why at your weight would you even want or need a Fox 38 on that bike? I have to agree though, Ibis really makes some great durable bikes, I love my 2021 HD5! Have fun

Everyone is different with want they want in a bike, we are all built differently too…but the 2 fastest EWS riders both sized down. Most people are on bikes too big. Don’t go by others do, go by what fits YOU.
Yeah, I agree people should go by what works for them. As someone who is almost always between sizes, I've learned a lot about the positives and negatives of both sizing up and down. They all have their perks. The thing I like about sizing up is that balance is less twitchy and movements smooth out because my center of mass is closer to the bikes center of mass. It's got a totally different feel but I'm really loving it on techy climbs because I can balance better. It's taking a little time to get used to the feel and timing of my wheel lifts, but I'm generally pleased. But it can also depend on the bike. There are some bikes I would never size up on. But I agree, sizing choice is very individual. We all ride different trails and in different ways and differing body proportions also factor in a ton.
@@dustybettymtb Maybe do a future video on the Small vs Medium ride? People go crazy with mtb fittings. It’s not like a road bike that requires precise fit. Enjoy the Ibis. 👍
But remember it totally depends on the trails and tracks. Jack Moir rides the bigger bike at home. The EWS tracks are super tight and twisty, which is why he sizes down for the season.
I'm splitting my time between flats and clips right now. I love clips, especially for climbing in Sedona. I wore clips almost exclusively for two years but I'm getting into coaching and it's recommended that you coach on flats (it's a little lame to teach someone in flats how to do a rear wheel lift, for example, if you're clipped in.) So I'm 50/50 these days.
Hi D.B, I would like to get a new Ibis this year, but I'm between choosing the Ripmo V2 and the Ripley V4. I currently ride the Ripley AF which I really like. I'm about an intermediate rider nothing too crazy. Any advice? Thank you
If a Ripley is what you want, then I think the aluminum one you have is the best Ripley out there. My Ripley is pretty prone to bottom out on the shock, even on moderate terrain. I mentioned it briefly in my review, I was really struggling to get the shock dialed on the Ripley and I thought it was user error for a long time. With more time I'm starting to think that it's not me and there's something about that rear linkage on the carbon Ripley that makes it prone to bottom out. I Hope that helps!

My Ripley did well in Sedona last year. I like Ibis bikes they climb very well and my Ripley AF is great but it's time to move up to carbon and stay with Ibis. Great video. I was between a medium and a large. I had to get a 35 mil stem from the 50 and that helped with my turning going down national.
