I have been following Colin since his early days on his channel. It's thanks to him I learned the ins and outs of the recording process. One of the nicest and most helpful person. It is so pleasing to see this collaboration between you two...
Nice video! Love the concise yet complete discussion. People are often shy about mixing different mics, but I find a ribbon mic plus a small diaphragm condenser adds enormously to both the sense of presence and stereo. The Voodoo VR2 is a gorgeous yet affordable ribbon.
Thanks for this informative lesson 🧐! I'll check out your channel! I likewise recently discovered that placing the mic about a foot higher than the sound hole eliminated that "bassy" boom sound. I still preferred the "raw" sound example; I've never been a fan of reverb or overly resonant recording locations (cathedrals, etc.). Frederich Gulda's recording of Bach's "Well-Tempered..." is likely my favorite example of a pure analog sound. 👏
This may be off topic, but do you recommend a good tuner/metronome combo? If you are not aware of one, then which tuner and metronome do you recommend?
Excellent video. I have had all the early major players on LPs and no matter what the sound, I still like it if the playing is good. But one of my favorites is the Christopher Parkening recordings. Especially the later one with the French music of Satie and Ravel. I think the Handel Sarabande is on there too (lovely). I have to say though, all the major players from Segovia to Bream were frustrating trying to hear them in big Halls. IMHO Classical guitar sans a mike does not belong in huge venues. I have many old Segovia LPs, ones I've never seen elsewhere in person. They vary a lot. His early Spanish takes are magic. For Bream, I greatly favor his first edition of the Walton Bagatelles. John Williams old Spanish collection LP with De Falla, etc. is extraordinary, and his Aranjuez with Ormandy remains my favorite of that piece by far. I found it too hard to amplify nylon LIVE for gigs so I went with Steel string and also tend to improvise a lot now and play some Jazz ballads and Beatle arrangements. Also better for alt tunings. ruclips.net/video/Pw0NrwobAiU/видео.html

Tascam dr 100 mk3 with build in stereo mics😉 very good preamp for quite guitar sound. I have only good experience with it. Zoom h6 has not so good preamp for guitar. I dont use any post production ads or improve. Only little volume up. My video editor cant make effects and more. On Siccasguitar there is for me sometimes too much improvements in post, too much gain ad etc...

Ya, ribbon mics can be excellent for classical guitar.
Right on time ! I wanted to start recording myself :D Now time to invest money on some hardware. Thanks for the video !
Hi Colin, what wonderful guitar you play in this video?
What is the name of the piece at the end?
Excellent video, I already subscribed
Great, he deserves many more subs!
Great video! Curious the name of the piece you played as an example? Hoping it wasn’t a improvisation!
Thanks for the tips
I record my playing by cell phone and I got some another sounds from the outside. Thanks for the tips.

I recommend the tuner and metronome listed here: www.thisisclassicalguitar.com/classical-guitar-store-reviews/
Great but... if I want an stereo recording where put the mics?
AB Stereo Mic Technique as he shows in the video is also called a “spaced pair”.
