What really makes this film great, besides the "David Harbor as killer Santa Claus" premise, is that it's somehow kind of an earnest Christmas movie, too.

    • @snvhill
      @snvhill 11 месяцев назад +62

The way a little girl goes "Skullcrusher!" in the same way she'd go "Rudolph!" of "Santa!" in a normal Christmas movie just sums up how this movie works for me. Because somehow it makes sense in context and you believe it.

I saw Violent Night in theatres and that scene had the theatre cheer. True story: I was thinking that Santa was going to use his magic to go up the chimney and then jump down WWE style and use his sledgehammer to smash Scrooge's face like a watermelon. I didn't not expect Santa to take villain with him up the chimney. When that happen, I turned my head left and met the eyes of another guy in the theatre with a surprised look on both of our faces. This film certainly subverted our expectations.

It is a highly historical look at Santa Clause and his evolution over history.

Apparently Around Christmas or on Yule was a day when it’s said that Odin on his horse would travel across the sky visiting each household and the kids would leave their shoes next to the hearth and leave and a sugar for him. Also a man in the community would volunteer and dress like Odin or ‘old man winter’
Another Yule yarn is that Odins son Baldr was killed by an arrow made of mistletoe and was resurrected by his mother by turning the mistletoe berries red. Around Christmas for three days in the northern hemisphere many celebrations with mentions of resurrection is usually representative of the darkest day, when the sun aligns the southern cross and when the sun starts it journey back to the north bring life with.

I think you would like Santa's slay, It's a horror comedy from 2006 starring Bill Goldberg as santa, could be a fun reaction.

I'd actually JUST wached this for the first time last night and didn't notice it on the patreon posts the last few weeks. Makes sense because...well christmas, but still!

This movie was the greatest surprise one could ever get. 2022 was not the best year for me and this movie helped.

The henchman nicknamed Krampus was in Arrow season 7. He was the prisoner who was obsessed with Oliver and became his sidekick behind bars.

Great reaction to a great movie.
Btw, Grandma Gertrude is also the mom/wife from the NATIONAL LAMPOON VACATION movies, especially CHRISTMAS VACATION: Beverly D’Angelo

I don't mean to keep bringing Halo 4: Forward Unto Dawn up, but the leader of the rescue team played the General that. And I didn't know that until I watched this. His imdb is an interesting one.

I am sooo happy that a lot of commenters share my thoughts on this movie. It never forgets the Christmas Spirit and still manages to convey everything the movie wants to be.

I feel like this would be Grunkle Stan as Santa in an R rated setting

I remember watching this movie for the first time at a cinema staff party in 2022 and while the story wasn’t really anything interesting, it had so many of those moments that really sold and made this movie feel just a fun and brutal classic Christmas action comedy movie!!

My new favorite Christmas movie. I bought this before I saw any reactions, or anything. Never see Santa the same way again.

Boxing Day originated from the 1700s when people would receive a “Christmas box” of gifts or money from customers or employers.

I can just imagine when the soldiers get to the afterlife and the person at the gate is like “and how did you die” … “death by Santa Claus ok definitely to Satan you go”

This movie was so much better than it had any right to be. I really and truly enjoyed it when it came out.
