Hey, this was wonderful to see Tom Synder, back in time. Tom was a great person on TV, in all his formats. A wonderful conversationalist. He had a great sense of curiosity, and had a wonderful manner with his guests. Thank you for this episode.
This was a great episode. I am glad you were able to incorporate video clips and stills into this. I saw Tom as having some similarities to Dick Cavett, both of them being masters of the long form interview. The Late Late Show with Tom also had some things in common with Later with Bob Costas. Both had no sidekick, studio audience or band. The only response to the show that was audible was from the crew. I appreciate that The Letterman Podcast looks at the whole spectrum of the Worldwide Pants history, and The Late Late Show was an important part of that. Thanks for including that clip of Tom "flipping the bird" as news anchor, never saw that. One thing that Snyder fans may enjoy was his combative interview with Howard Stern when Tom filled in for Bob Costas.
You know, we wanted to ask Annie about the Stern stuff, but intentionally saved things that might be featured in some of the future projects she spoke of. It will be a lot of fun to have her back and dive into that stuff when the time is right.
If you saw the Julia Child movie then you know that she viewed her being parodied by SNL (Dan Akroyd played the role of Julia) as a sign that she was a success.
@@marksobolik8943 Great point. Cavet was in many respects, perfect counter programming for Carson because while there was still comedy and ‘variety’ his show featured more intellectual conversation as well. We had him on our show and hope to do something with him in the future as well.
I was in my teens when Snyder was on (after Dave), but I really liked Tom's style even back then. There was something calm, cool and collected about Tom in contrast to the zaniness of Conan and Dave and phoniness of Jay.
TS is such a legend / genius (esp. in context w / longform podcasts so pervasive / popular today)... So many legendary interviews - what a catalogue.
Yes! How great was it when Annie dropped the bombshell that these episodes will be put out in podcast form? Cannot wait to subscribe to that!
I loved Tom. This was great.
Cannot thank you enough for watching and are delighted you enjoyed it.

It was an absolute pleasure. Thank you for letting us know :)

44:28 Well, as Tom Snyder would say, "We're number 1!"
lol. Exactly.

Absolutely.
Bob Dole loved Norm Macdonald’s impression as well.
It was also fun to see Norm attempt to parody Dave.
@@thelettermanpodcast I recall how animated Bob Dole could be about Norm. Senator Dole was a great one for not taking himself seriously.
Tom created the long-form conversation format? What about Cavett?

We could not agree more. But imagine if we could….woah…
