Solo 0:48
I eliminated the second verse and refrain. Harrison used his newly acquired Sonic Blue Strat - I used a 2006 Highway 1 Stratocaster played through a Vox AD15VT set to AC30TB w/ no effects. Min Bass, Min Mid, Max Treble with Fender .010-.046 Super Bullets. Lennon used his Rick 325, which I don’t have, I used a 1966 Gretsch Country with .010 -.046 nickel plated wire wound strings. The amp was close-mic recorded with a Tascam DR07 digital recorder and then mixed with the backing tracks created from the original recording. Compression and EQ were added during mixing. The volume pedal for the rising notes in the bridge was simulated using an automated fader during mixing. No tabs.
For the E chord during the verse, Lennon plays it up at the 7th fret O799XX and then momentarily hits the E7th with O797XX. You can hear him clearly practicing this between studio takes 1 and 2. • the Beatles - Day Trip... at 2:15.
Pan full left to hear the backing performances of Lennon and Harrison. Pan full right to hear the overdub performance of Harrison throughout the song and Lennon during the bridge only.
The electric guitars are played through a Vox AD15VT set to AC30TB with min bass, min mid and max treble and the amp is close mic recorded with a Tascam DR01 hand-held digital recorder. Acoustic guitars are recorded with the Tascam DR01 hand-held digital recorder about 12 inches away from the neck and midway between the 12th fret and the sound hole. Effects are added during mixing. My performance, with compression, is mixed with the backing tracks and the whole mix is limited. This is the way the Beatles recorded these early tunes. It is difficult to duplicate the sound with just the guitar and amp.
My videos are really intended for accomplished guitarists who want to polish up their Beatles repertoire and can benefit from "seeing" how a song is played - I am not a guitar teacher and do not provide tabs. I welcome specific questions. If the various chords that I am playing are not familiar to you then I would suggest that you visit some of the many free guitar chord sites. I had to learn these songs by listening to vinyl records and watching live performances on tv.

Thanx for viewing. PLEASE review the video description b4 posting new comments/questions. There's lots of info regarding guitars, strings, recording, etc.
I love your channel. It is so authentic but still very simplified so every video can be used as a lesson without the long and mostly unnecessary explanations. As I'm in a Beatles cover band, I use your channel to revise the songs before the rehearsals. You're very helpful. Keep up the good work and thank you very much.
what blows my mind is that all 3 are singing in harmony while playing those rhythms.
Not on the studio recording. The complete backing tracks were completed and then vocals were overdubbed twice.
@@BeatlesGuitarSecrets I I didn't know that.
@@BeatlesGuitarSecrets but they played the song live, so is amazing the skills they have
@@BeatlesGuitarSecrets exaclty like how were they playing four guitars at once with two guitarists
@@cedricst-germain5370 LOL! In the studio they use multitrack recorders. They play multiple parts at different times. Google 'multitrack recording' and 'overdubbing' for more information.
I had no idea both John AND George did overdubs on "Day Tripper".The things a Beatles fan can learn...Great job.
This guy is one of the great heroes of the Internet. I watch, listen, learn, and appreciate.
Hey, you're my kinda guy! Glad you're finding my videos useful! I appreciate the feedback! Good playing!
Man, these guys were masters of song construction. Each part alone (including voices, percussion and bass) was simple. But when blended together, sublime.
Open-minded Skeptic Simple but not simple!
I like Beatles since old years 70...whem I began to listened them and began top lay guitar, Now I m 54 and I m glad of see in ypur vídeo how They played guitar in a form so real, because, its was difficut in those years to see Harrison or Lennon playing with his hand so close. Thanks!!! Congratulations
Thanks for the posting. I like the way you presented the different guitar parts. Makes them easy to follow.
im always amazed at how your ear can pick out these guitar intricacies layered in these songs. your covers always sound so perfect
Beautiful! Never even thought about what George Harrison's backing track was doing during the solo, great to hear it up in the mix with everything else!
I tell you brother. My dad, brother and I had a Beatle band and we stuck faithfully to the records. I have never seen anybody do as good a job as you in showing exactly how they did it. I love your vids man. Please don't ever stop. You definitely have a lot of material to work with!
This is one of the best guitar covers I've seen! As always, keep up the great work!
Great to see you back. This is one of your best, I think. Thanks for the on-screen labels.
Thanks for showing that the music starts simple and gradually through adding the layers it becomes a wall of sound and soon we have a masterpiece on Vinyl..
I remember when I was first learning some of these songs. Long before there was anything like TAB's or video to learn from. We had to play the record over and over and over.
Wish I'd had something like this when I was trying to figure out And Your Bird Can Sing.
Excellent. Finally someone playing that Lennon chord on the fifth fret correctly
You have surpassed yourself. Great work here. The bridge is quality. Very accurate. Thanks.
Very good video. Even having "only" two eyes to watch four guitars the video is a must to see.
Congrats for your video.
One of the dirtiest and sweetest hooks/licks of all time.
Great stuff as usual, lots of things to work on. Thank you.
Great video, great playing! Thanks for the post.
Nice job the Gretsch sounds great.
This is so neat watching you play the guitars...and you are very good.
Fricken awesome! I must have been four or five in the late 1960s when I learned how to operate my sisters' dansette (record player) and was gobsmacked at the sound of this riff! Listening to your recreation here takes me over fifty years right back in time in a heartbeat!
Far out man! You are really good at this stuff.
Nice playing and research into this ...
The ultimate definition of team work 😎😎😎😎
Your video demonstrations and descriptions are fantastic tutorials, best I've seen on you tube for any music. And the verisimilitude to the studio songs is wonderful. Thanks for a cultural gift.
precise and accurate.
Great playing!!
I like how you play the guitar exactly how George plays it on live shows and videos
sourseal22
Wrong mate, actually, this is how George played at the studio
Always wondered what Lennon was hitting. Now I know!!!!!
SOMEONE HAS DONE IT a 4 neck guitar!
Damn...all this time I thought it was one guitar...so in sync...genius..

Truly great to see. Beatles guitar can be challenging for a beginner like myself :)
+Burco1 Thanx for your comment. Playing guitar is like discovering how a magic trick is done. Once you see it, it doesn't seem so magical [difficult]. Just keep practicing and building your muscle memory and inventory of skills.
Well put. I agree 100%. There will be a song I've always wanted to learn. It sounds hard. I learn it and it de-mystifies it. You can see a road map pattern that locks into your brain.
Danny Boy As requested, please read the video description.
The masters of 4 track.
You are simply amazing! Thanks for sharing!
Thanks for your videos They're very useful. :)
Nicely done. Many thanks.
I always wondered what guitar GH played on this one - knew it wasn't the Gretsch. Now I know. Thanks.
favorite beatles song
Thank's So Much :D
Daytripper what a song and thanks for the guitars too. I am going to get a tambourine to play.❤
Fantastic!! I never knew how J&G made that sound. There was so much more going on than I thought.
insane you play Exact like them I hope you can do all their songs and mabey pick up a epiphone Casino or a Gibson sg I Love these videos keep it going!
Beatles Guitar Secret; it is amazing what you do on your videos. Every time that I watch your videos more I want to watch other of your videos. You do a tremendous job. Please send me your web site to watch more of your recordings.

George Harrison ❤❤❤
Absolutely fantastic sir!! Well done!!:):)
Very, very nice. Thanks for posting.
I'm your biggest fans ever believe me
John said it was a heavy number 😁 This is brilliant
Nailed it!!! Great playing! Thank you very much!
very nice great
My congratulations...You do a really nice job on the videos I've seen. However, on every live and promo video I've watched of Day Tripper, George plays the signature lick in the instrumental lead in B starting on the seventh fret, not starting on the second fret as you do here. A minor point perhaps, but we Beatle lovers are always on the eternal quest for authenticity. Again, nice work! All the best.
Thanx for your comment. I'm playing the studio version where both Lennon and Harrison played two parts each. During live performances they had to change the arrangements. The only clear video I'm aware of is a lip sync promo film where, at the point you are referring to, if you watch his strumming hand, you can see that he is not playing the lead riff.
Your work is very good. Congratulations! 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
First time running across your channel! You now have a new Subscriber! This is an awesome breakdown and very thorough! Thanks for posting! I play in a cover band and have always wanted to tighten up a few of the Beatles songs that we play! Much appreciated!!
This is great. I'm just learning lead and the B chord middle run with the lead is really hard for me to figure out, and my hand/fingers won't cooperate. I was trying it way up higher on the neck but will stay low now as shown and see it it's easier.
That was fun! Well done
the beatles across the world
This is Epic! Thanks man!
excellent! tremendous musician is this guy!
You lost me! But I love what you do! Great talent! I just started playing. I know 5 chords so far! :) God Bless
Nice. It's clearly not quite as easy and simple as I had initially thought. Off to work!
I love the lead guitar cord progression
The Sonic Blue Strat!!! Rocky Lives. Just saw a Lennon video of JL recording "How do you sleep" and GH is playing slide on John's matching blue 1961 Strat.... Love your stuff...
you are the best ! Beatles are not secret with you it's genius
Geezus it took a true genius to create an unknown simple riff and present it to the world !
Just great! Congrats!
Man, deez mop tops know how to CONSTRUCT A SONG!
amazing how good it is all these years later.
Love this...
That is terrific.
Fantastic!
"Wow, I always thought George played the lead break...but now that I think about it does sound like John's more 'raw' style."
Take another look, it's indicated on the screen - Harrison played the solo!
@@BeatlesGuitarSecrets Lennon played the solo, according to the guy who looked at their session records.
@@TTOF_JB According to Dave Rybaczewski's website - www.beatlesebooks.com/day-tripper - Lennon wrote the main riff and conceived of the bridge but that for the actual studio recordings it was Harrison playing the main riff and solo for the bridge.
Can you please do twist and shout
It's been posted for years. Click on my Channel and search videos.
Spettacolare! Poi dicono che i Beatles non erano dei grandi chitarristi.
Can you tell me what the pickup selector was set at? I'm guessing the strat would be at the neck pickup, what with the treble being turned right up, as you said in the description. I was so surprised when George said he used a strat on this song, I didn't think it sounded like it. But that's the Beatle magic, they were so creative with instruments.... and everything else.
Thanx for the comment. I can only remember that it was either all 3 pickups or bridge and middle. I apply EQ in the mix so it really doesn't matter that much.
complicated stuff, no wonder they are the best band of all time
Wish I could Play Like That
It's up to you! Like anything in life that's worth while, you have to put in the time and effort! As a young teen I practiced a couple of hours almost every day and played in a few casual bands in middle & high school and then in college for a few years - you learn a lot by observing other players. You have the advantage of tons of free online videos to help you learn from watching other's techniques. Good luck.
@@BeatlesGuitarSecrets that's very true! I always wanted to learn how to play the guitar, and to become at least a little bit good at it, and I'm 27yo now and I finally started to learn, and the most important thing that I discovered is: there's no shortcut. If you want to learn, you really have to practice, it'll be hard, it'll be frustrating sometimes, but I have to persevere if I want to improve, one step at a time. No shortcuts, and I'm not giving up, I practice from 2 to 4 hours a day and I'm improving very quickly, it's hard, but I won't give up, it's one of my biggest dreams!
thank you very much,, it's very usefull
cool
I think that harrison in the backing solo part is muting the microphone in each note.
Thanx for your comment. Please read the video decriptions b4 posting comments/questions. Actually, he used a volume pedal - I used an automated fader during mixing.
Classic....
Fantastic. I'm a folk guitarist but would love to learn some lead electric guitar. I bought an Ovation UK II many years ago but rarely played it and didn't learn lead (it was a total steal, it was in mint condition. it cost $100 and that including shipping and the case).
You can do it! Like anything worth while, you need to put in the time!
Hi nice video! I made a video playing the lead guitar to I'll get you and then the video got blocked from UMG_MK so I'm wondering how you did the no backing tracks on your covers. Can you tell me please? Thanks.
+Edgar Barrios Thanx for your comment. I use the stereo versions to create backing tracks. By eliminating the channel with the vocals and applying EQ to the right channel and rebalancing everything I am able to create an acceptable backing featuring bass and drums.
Do you do lessons? because I want to learn your version of I'llFollow The Sun.
+Andrea Barrios Thanx for your comment. I would suggest that you watch the video on a large screen device and slow it down to 0.5 speed (use Google Chrome or download to pc). You'll be able to see clearly which strings are being plucked and where the fingers of the left hand are placed. It may take you a while but you will learn a great deal more than just the one song.
Good video thanks🐸
treasure
Hola me llamo lucas. Tengo un pedal multi-efecto y quería saber q efecto lleva el solo de guitarra, de la parte de " HARRISON BACKING". Gracias
Thanx for your comment. Read the video description. No effects.
Words fail me!
I was listening to both lead guitar parts, and I’m wondering how you actually got the tone for the riff and the solo. What pickup did you have the Strat on? I usually have on the bridge pickup for the main riff, then when it comes to the first half of the guitar solo, I switch it to the second position, and then final part of the solo, I switch back to the bridge pickup. The guitar I play the riff and solo on is a Squier Affinity Series Stratocaster.
You must remember that what you are hearing in my video, as on the studio recording, is NOT what you hear out of the amp! The sound has been recorded through a mic, and then mixed and mastered. During that process, EQ, compression, and limiting were used! I used the bridge and neck pickup, I believe, but then while mixing EQ was applied in an attempt to match the studio recording.
since the Beatles did live concerts and did a lot of overdubbing how does a get the same effect that their concerts?
Thanx for your comment. They changed the arrangement for concerts. There was so much noise the audience probably didn't know the difference, but a critical ear listening to audio of the live performances can clearly detect the missing elements.
Haha your pinky finger won't go down that's amazing,
Cannot say how good your guitar vids are! - thanks so much- just discovered this channel!
What are you playing on the Harrison overdub guitar at 1:07-1:10?
Thanx for your comment. The video is 1080P HD and very clear. Watch it on a large screen device. Note which strings are vibrating for picking and where my left index finger is fretting.
is that bridge pickup a stock gretsch pickup?
+Један Човек Thanx for your comment. Google "Gretsch Supertron". It is stock on the 1967 Country Gentleman.
1966 Country Gentleman.
Спасибо❤

Which pickup you use on the main riff?!
Thanx for you comment. It was either bridge or bridge and center. Trust me, it really doesn't matter. Pls read the video description for the setup. The Vox amp, compressor, limiter and EQ give it the sound. The Stratocaster is a very bright guitar and needs the higher frequencies lowered in the mix or it will shred your ears - regardless of which pickups are selected.
¡Great song!
Here's a very nit picky observation since we are going for accuaracy in these videos (which are very good, by the way). At 0:38 on the "Harrison Backing" guitar you play that little fill with the C# and A notes on the A string that comes up a few times in the track. You are playing the C# on beat 3 and the A on the 1/8th note immediately following (counted as "three and"). It should actually be on the "four and" of the bar, in other words, one beat later. I have to admit though that I wasn't even aware of that lick before I saw your video. I'm going to check out your other vids, maybe I'll check back in with more anal retentive criticisms :-)
Thanx for your comment. It was intentional on my part. Harrison was not a machine, and sometimes he played "in the holes" as the Beatles referred to it - meaning off beat. My backing track is an edit of the original track and at that point Harrison actually played it the way you hear/see me play it. I (and Harrison) played it as you noted in the third verse, after the solo. I create a special version of the track using EQ, etc to make whatever part I'm recording prominent so that I can clearly hear what's going on.
I can barely play one guitar at a time...
What key do you use in the 00:56 minute and the what strings of do you press? ps: sorry for bad english
for lennon overdub
Thanx for your comment. It's A [X4222X]
