I think the idea of treating Fortnite as a platform, is similar with what they wanted with Infinity. Difference here is they are utilizing Epic to develop and with the 1.5B investment, I think Disney will have a huge part of that development here. It makes a lot of sense. Disney is great at many things, but their history with videogames is not one of them.

as a person who loves fortnite and disney infinity growing up. my first instinctive thought was omg disney infinity all over again. and fortnite never fails to meet beyond our expectations. so trust this will be amazing.
Fortnite is, in and of itself, already a spiritual Disney Infinity successor even without this announcement. The cartoon character style, collab characters, a Creative mode that allows players to make their own games & maps (like the Toy Box), & game modes (i.e. Battle Royale, Save the World, LEGO, Rocket Racing & Festival) that are basically Fortnite's own versions of Play Sets. The Disney deal was just the cherry on top
Fortnite is not at all a DI successor, sorry but saying it won't make it true. It didn't start like a crossover thing (remember they literally made a fake John Wick skin) they just started doing collabs out of a whim because it makes shit tons of money, the Creative only recently got beyond just maps to shoot people in, playsets and game modes have NO correlation Also you're forgetting the MOST crucial part: you can't play as anyone in Fortnite. You can only LOOK like Darth Vader, or Peter Griffin, or Raphael, or Ant-Man, etc. Disney Infinity let you play as highly detailed and true-to-source characters, Fortnite just lets you look like them while you jump around with a shotgun and hit the griddy. Is that bad? No. I personally get ticked off when people talk about how Fortnite lets you play as other characters, because it factually does not. But don't think I am saying Fortnite is bad. If you want a true spiritual successor to Infinity, keep a lookout for any MultiVersus news. That game really captured the same essence Infinity once did. It’s only Disney Infinity if the toy figures are involved. That’s what made the game interesting, you put a figure on the portal and they come to life. That’s what I love about the game, and I was really looking forward for the other characters coming but got canceled. I’m glad they are bringing the concept back, but it won’t be the same for me.

Well, it certainly sounds ambitious, but I'm having a hard time understanding what this project will actually be. I have to imagine it's going to be more than just a Disney re-skin of Fortnite. At the very least, I'm excited that there seems to be an area dedicated entirely to Wreck-it Ralph.
It was what made Infinity feel special. That said, that business model wasn't sustainable. It will be interesting to see what this is as we continue to learn more about it.

I do not think the deal between disney and epic would be a disney infinity per se. However, since unreal engine can be use to create a level similar to toy box mode, we would have to create a model of character and program them.
I think this will be an awesome and ultimate Disney crossover! I played Fortnite once but it was too difficult for me. Hopefully this will be more than just Fortnite gameplay and more like Disney Infinity. I was so disappointed when TT games canceled that Lego Disney game they announced. It would've been an awesome new Disney game. But looking at this, this will be a new experience for amazing Disney possibilities to make and share with the community. Now this is what I'm talking about! This would be way more fun and exciting than Speedstorm and Dreamlight valley. I love Disney Infinity, and I hope this new game will be like it but better, bigger, and more exciting.

It isn't gonna catch Infinity's essence, truly. Fortnite can't really do that. Not with its universal playable mechanics, where different skins are limited to that: being skins. Without the careful detail and love breathed into unique playable characters, only the worlds are left to impress us, and we have absolutely no idea what they're going to be, we don't know how they're gonna work, we are unaware of what the thing will bring to the table. Knowing how Fortnite works, and even considering some degree of reworking and redesigning, it will be more close to, like Chomp said, the Metaverse, or if we want a more uplifting example, I think a sort of integral Roblox-like experience is to be expected. It's under Epic's Unreal engine and a part of Fortnite. But recently, with how they have their own seperate Lego mode, I think this Disney Universe will be the biggest collab yet.
Less costs, no figure production and partnering with Epic who has the biggest player base out of nearly any game. I just hope this Disney mode will truly rival everything we had with Infinity.
It'll be interesting to see how it turns out. I have a feeling it will be very different than Fornite's BR mode - and have a magical Disney touch. The storytelling part is what excites me the most. Fortnite's creative mode is very good so I can't wait.

Since they shut down Infinity and their studios, everything has been outsourced. Fortnite has proven itself as a platform which will take away their risk but I do think this "Game mode Universe" will be different than what Fort has to offer.

Seems like it might be a new gamemode similar to the Lego, racing, and Rock Band gamemodes. And I doubt Disney will allow characters like Mickey Mouse run around with a machine gun; if you are able to play as characters in the gamemode it will probably be locked to that gamemode only like they've done in the past.
I agree with you on this. They ALREADY have Disney IP's in their BR modes. This will be something separate, and BIG, under the Fortnite umbrella of being a platform.
The idea of a Disney platform, encompassing all of their IP's is what I mean. We''ll have to wait and see but the "sharing stories and experiences" part has me the most excited. I really hope they draw inspiration from what people loved so much about Infinity.

This is a Disney venture so it will remain Disney (where as the other modes by Epic will and have featured DC).

It's under Epic's Unreal engine and a part of Fortnite. But recently, with how they have their own seperate Lego mode, I think this Disney Universe will be the biggest collab yet.

Ah, so they wanted Disney Infinity but they wanted someone else to manage it.
Less costs, no figure production and partnering with Epic who has the biggest player base out of nearly any game. I just hope this Disney mode will truly rival everything we had with Infinity.

It'll be interesting to see how it turns out. I have a feeling it will be very different than Fornite's BR mode - and have a magical Disney touch. The storytelling part is what excites me the most. Fortnite's creative mode is very good so I can't wait.

Since they shut down Infinity and their studios, everything has been outsourced. Fortnite has proven itself as a platform which will take away their risk but I do think this "Game mode Universe" will be different than what Fort has to offer.

Its literally fortnite...if its just disney people running around with machine guns im not interested...if the disney characters in this thing actulaly PLAY like their characters LIKE Disney Infinity...im interested.
Seems like it might be a new gamemode similar to the Lego, racing, and Rock Band gamemodes. And I doubt Disney will allow characters like Mickey Mouse run around with a machine gun; if you are able to play as characters in the gamemode it will probably be locked to that gamemode only like they've done in the past.
I agree with you on this. They ALREADY have Disney IP's in their BR modes. This will be something separate, and BIG, under the Fortnite umbrella of being a platform.

The idea of a Disney platform, encompassing all of their IP's is what I mean. We''ll have to wait and see but the "sharing stories and experiences" part has me the most excited. I really hope they draw inspiration from what people loved so much about Infinity.

@@Kuzkruz I think this deal, specifically, ensures Infinity won't return unfortunately. Now we have to be vocal about what we want in it so ensure it has the Infinity DNA in it.
