Man, you teased me there about the infinitesimal time dt. Infinitesimal dt does not mean "very small" dt, right? You were the one who made me throw everything in my hand and start searching for the real true meaning of dx. It is used a lot in many physics courses, and I think many people take its meaning for granted. However, the way I think about how it is used now is that it is just a practical analogy in physics.
A differential is basically something that allows for linear approximation of a function. If we have a function f(t) and we know its value at some point t_0 and want to know its value at a point t_0 + dt very close to t_0, then if the function is continuous, it can be approximated to be linear around t_0 and therefore f(t_0 + dt) ≈ f(t_0) + f'(t_0)dt or f(t_0 + dt) - f(t_0) = df ≈ f'(t_0)dt which gives f'(t_0) = df/dt the derivative at t_0 and corresponds to the infinitesimal rate of change or slope of the function at t_0. For example, given a function like sin x, we know its value at zero to be zero and we want to approximate its value around zero. We are also given that it is continuous in the neighborhood of zero and has a slope of one at zero. Then, for infinitesimal increments dx, we have sin(0 + dx) ≈ 0 + dx or sin(dx) ≈ dx. More formally, a differential (also known as an infinitesimal) is something that can be integrated (summed continuously). An exact differential can be put in the form dx (an infinitesimal change in one quantity) and the result of its integration depends on the state of the system only (initial and final points), an inexact differential cannot be put in said form but depends on the history of the differential through the interval of integration. All integrable one-dimensional differentials f(x)dx are exact because there exist functions F known as the antiderivatives of f for which F'(x) = f(x) or dF = fdx. An example of inexact differentials that take the form δA(x,y) = B(x,y)dx + C(x,y)dy, where ∂B/∂y ≠ ∂C/∂x, is a line integral of a non-conservative force. This line integral computes the work done by the force along the path the object follows. Since the force is non-conservative, the integral value depends on the path taken and not only the endpoints/state of the system. In other words, the closed path integral is not zero. If the force is friction for example, the longer the path, the greater the value of the integral even if the path has the same endpoints, so if you go from one point to another and back, you might lose energy if the path going is longer than the path back. Therefore, the line integral of F_xdx + F_ydy can't be put into the form -dU for a potential energy function U that satisfies F_x = -∂U/∂x and F_y = -∂U/∂y and the system's mechanical energy K + U is not conserved i.e dK + dU = W_(non-conservative) ≠ 0 because some mechanical energy is dissipated to other forms of energy (the total energy is conserved though). The next differential to consider is called a 2-form. An example is A(x,y,z)dx∧dy + B(x,y,z)dy∧dz + C(x,y,z)dz∧dx where the wedge products are antisymmetric and correspond to oriented infinitesimal areas. This comes from imposing d(Adx) = dAdx which gives d^2x = 0 which in turn gives d^2(x^2/2) = d(xdx) = dxdx = 0 which finally gives d(A + B)d(A + B) = dAdA + dAdB + dBdA + dBdB = dAdB + dBdA = 0 or dAdB = -dBdA. This paves our way to the generalised Stokes' theorem. Hope this helps!

هو اول مثال بتاع ال ellipse فى ال degree of freedom لو هى فعلا ellipse مش المفروض يكون عندنا 2 degree of freedom عشان ال r هتتغير مع كل نقطه اما لو هى circle فساعتها فعلا degree واحده عشان الθ بس كفايه
The equation for a general conic section (ellipse, circle, hyperbola, parabola) in polar form is r(θ) = a(1-e^2)/(1+e cos(θ)). This means that having known the angle, the radial distance is also known. The parameters a and e are just parameters: values that distinguish between ellipses but are constant for a single ellipse. Had the dimensions of the ellipse been changing i.e the shape of the ellipse changes as the particle moves, a and e would be changing and there would be more degrees of freedom.
Your note at 9:00 is inaccurate, I think. Being able to tell the value of one coordinate via another's is not a requirement. At least not in the example you drew since at (y=0) for example, (x) can have two distinct values. So either that it is not a requirement, or the example is non-representative. Looking forward for a clarification. I appreciate your efforts.
The angle (theta) is different (and is representative of your note) since if you know its value you can always tell what (x, y)s values are. They are coupled indeed, but being able to tell the value of one based on anothers is not a hard rule, I suppose.
It's actually true because the path of the particle is Parametrized by theta, as shown in the illustration. the meaning of the dependence here is that you can Parametrized a path by less variables (notioned s degrees of freedom). you can write theta as (wt) where w is angular velocity, and t is time and the path is Parametrized (can tell them by another less [s=1] varibles ) by the equations: x=acos(theta=wt) , y=bsin(theta=wt). Actually, you're just arguing the definition which require that the reduced coordinates is sufficient to describe the mechanical system, if you can describe the mechanical system with some coordinates you can always define another coordinates by the general coordinates and transform from to another.
@@alrshdn I remembering reading somewhere (unfortunately I don't remember where) that the meaning of independent here is that, knowing one coordinate, will not give you extra information about other coordinates, if it does give you information, it means they are coupled. in this example, knowing the x gives you info about the y (it can be one of two values). although it doesn't specify what is the exact value of the other coordinates, because it gave you SOME information, they are NOT independent, because the value of one coordinate can affect (i.e. restrict) the other. again, take this with a grain of salt, because there's a possibility that I just made this thing up and it might be wrong.
@alrshdn @ahmedphys776 @mohad12211 You are all right on the fundamental level, but I think you all missed a critical point, and I think this is my fault because I didn't clarify that part deeply enough in the video, but hey, there is only so much one can say without turning it into a 3 hours video :) The part you have missed is that we are dealing with a mechanical system, not with an abstract math problem. So, what exactly did you miss? Well, it is the fact that in order to describe a mechanical system you MUST know the position and velocity of the particle at every single instant, that includes the initial position and velocity. In other words, I actually do know mathematically and physically how the particle moves in one coordinate if I know how it moves in the other, the reason is I know its current state (position and velocity), and based on that state, I can calculate where it is going next if I know the force. Another way to state it is that there is no sense "mechanically" to ask where the particle is moving and in which direction if you don't know the current position and velocity. From there, all you have to do is to find the mathematical expression that could be provide this coupling and that would be the angle.

My personal opinion is that yes, textbooks are awesome and all, but they will require a lot of effort and free time which I think we can agree is not available in your case unfortunately. My advice is to do like I did: search for playlists explaining the subjects you are interested in and get pen and paper and take notes so that you make sure you are benefiting and pondering the subject. There are also multiple websites on which you can ask about things you don't understand like stackexchange.

حابب اسألك بس المايك اللى بتستخدمه اسمه ايه

Your note at 9:00 is inaccurate, I think. Being able to tell the value of one coordinate via another's is not a requirement. At least not in the example you drew since at (y=0) for example, (x) can have two distinct values.
So either that it is not a requirement, or the example is non-representative.
Looking forward for a clarification. I appreciate your efforts.
The angle (theta) is different (and is representative of your note) since if you know its value you can always tell what (x, y)s values are.
They are coupled indeed, but being able to tell the value of one based on anothers is not a hard rule, I suppose.
It's actually true because the path of the particle is Parametrized by theta, as shown in the illustration. the meaning of the dependence here is that you can Parametrized a path by less variables (notioned s degrees of freedom).
you can write theta as (wt) where w is angular velocity, and t is time and the path is Parametrized (can tell them by another less [s=1] varibles )
by the equations: x=acos(theta=wt) , y=bsin(theta=wt).
Actually, you're just arguing the definition which require that the reduced coordinates is sufficient to describe the mechanical system, if you can describe the mechanical system with some coordinates you can always define another coordinates by the general coordinates and transform from to another.

I remembering reading somewhere (unfortunately I don't remember where) that the meaning of independent here is that, knowing one coordinate, will not give you extra information about other coordinates, if it does give you information, it means they are coupled. in this example, knowing the x gives you info about the y (it can be one of two values). although it doesn't specify what is the exact value of the other coordinates, because it gave you SOME information, they are NOT independent, because the value of one coordinate can affect (i.e. restrict) the other.
again, take this with a grain of salt, because there's a possibility that I just made this thing up and it might be wrong.

You are all right on the fundamental level, but I think you all missed a critical point, and I think this is my fault because I didn't clarify that part deeply enough in the video, but hey, there is only so much one can say without turning it into a 3 hours video :)
The part you have missed is that we are dealing with a mechanical system, not with an abstract math problem.
