A classic. Had the same one in a Golf Mk1 and later a Opel Kadett GSI. Fond memories

Wow this is a similar unit that was in my Mum's New Zealand assembled 1993 Toyota Corolla Hatchback! Hers had radio as well. I thought we were rich because it had an Alpine head unit

You get a tuner thet plugs into the line in and uses the amplifier of the cassette player.

    Loved the video!
There are a few nuances there. At 16 minutes on the lid of the inner part you can see two microswitches. One of them, which is responsible for automatically recognizing the type of tape Metal is just at the end and prevents the lid from closing. It is bent with a metal tab, these mechanisms are assembled in boot mode.
And these gears should never be touched with a screwdriver, as the soft plastic and teeth will suffer. Alpine has a special tool, a pinion, for a small rotation to put everything back in its place. Of course, users don't have it, so you should think of something soft to turn the mechanism.

@@ANTandTEC This is what makes them convenient - they adjust themselves when switching on from any position.
Unlike them, the Clarions have several marks, including on the program gear.

@@ANTandTEC If the belt is a little stretched, I try to keep the original one.
I soak it in a can of acetone for a day or two in the sun. The oils come out. The liquid is often colored.
After the belt I boil it for 5-10 minutes. And I soak it a little with Liqui-Moly restorer.
Rubber becomes completely different to the touch, diameter decreases, works perfectly afterwards.

Lovely unit. Makes me want to buy a period correct car to go around it.
I wonder if the line-in is for a separate radio or CD player.
    Great video.

Yes maybe. Perhaps if the 'pre-in' is switched to on, the unit will be powered up (even without a tape inserted) and the built in power amp can be used for the pre-in.
