In 1972, I had the chance to buy a ‘67 Mustang, that was built by the service manager at the Ford dealership in my hometown. He did a body off restoration wit.h beefed up 4 link suspension, roll cage, 9” rear end, and balanced and blueprinted 390c.i. with a nasty race cam. He was asking $4,200.00. And because my insurance would have been $2500.00 a year, I passed. I kick myself all the time for that dumb mistake. The guy who bought it was killed in it less than a week after his purchase. He wrapped it around a telephone pole and died instantly. He was an Ensign in the Navy and was training as a jet fighter pilot at the local Naval Base, and was 22 years old.
I believe the black panel was part of an exterior decour package. Might be factory as the interior has the decour package. The door tag will show if the Pony interior is factory.
That panel was factory. I had a set of these panels. They called it ribbed tail lights . If that had been a C6 automatic if would have been called a GT A on the side stripes. 67 was the only year for the GTA option. Some had tilt away wood grain steering wheel ,over head console plus bottom console too. Front disc brakes with the big block 390cu. 58 percent of the weight was over the front end of the car with the 390cu engine. The car was a sleeper at the red lights 😮.

The ribbed rear panel is absolutely a rare factory option, as well as the 4-light convenience panel on the dash.
