On 5th August I went to the Festival of Quilts at the NEC in Birmingham (UK) and there was a small display of red and white quilts from the International Quilt Museum. They were absolutely stunning and the highlight of my trip.
I was very fortunate to have seen the red & white exhibit in NYC and also Houston’s anniversary exhibit. Wow oh wow!!!! In the armory in NYC, walking from the darkened lobby and seeing red & white quilts over the tops of peoples’ heads, and then finally actually being in the vast space filled with them - it was as though angels were singing in my head. I was emotional because of the beauty of the quilts and the display. It’s wonderful that the collection has a home.
I went to the Red and White Quilt Show along with my guild, Staten Island Quilters Guild, and it was soooo amazing! The most beautiful quilts ever. And I remember there was one quilt that had a little piece of yellow, the only one in the show. The way they were exhibited was incredible! I treat for a lifetime!
Four1/2 years ago, I had my first mammogram. ( I was 65 with no family diagnosis of breast cancer.). I had a visible lump. Doctor said, “ Don’t think it is, but it is bothering you.” and made me an appointment. We went to the wrong facility and missed the appointment. Forget what happened, but something else kept me from the second appointment. Got in two days later. I had my mammogram. “Don’t think it’s anything to be concerned about, but I see some teensy, tiny dots. Let’s do a sonogram.” Still not sure what he saw, so he ordered a core needle biopsy. Two days later, after having had the biopsy, they decided it was negative. Ok, so huge sigh of relief. But the lump was slowly growing, and my bra was irritating it. I met with a surgeon, who agreed that everything appeared negative, but let’s get it out for you. After I had the surgery, she came back and told me it was cancerous, but so tiny that the 5 cells were easily hidden and undetectable. I believe God arranged it in such a way that when I missed those appointments, He was making His team available for me. (They weren’t the same team humans had set me up with originally.) God is sooo good. I am now 4 years cancer free, thanks to His team and lots of prayers and a little “negative cyst”. Please continue to advocate for mammograms. They aren’t always perfect, but they are the best we have to detect it early. May God continue to bless you, and may your recovery time be short. (My nurses told me about a year for recovery. They were right.). ♥️🙏Ruth in Illinois.
I saw the Red & White exhibit last August. We actually took our vacation to Lincoln, Nebraska so I could see these quilts. I was at the International Quilt Museum for every minute of their open hours that day. So impressive! I didn't go to NYC for the original exhibit and have kicked myself ever since! And Lincoln has wonderful restaurants, and we loved driving through Nebraska. People are floored when we say we spent our vacation in Nebraska, but I highly recommend Lincoln and North Platte, which has the Golden Spike Tower & Visitor Center, where trains are put together to travel to all parts of the country. We thought we'd stop in for 20 minutes and were there for 2-1/2 hours.
I was on a quilt bus tour to Paducah 2005 i think . A red and white show was hung at the museum in a kind of spiral, definitely from the ceiling. New quilts with the theme of Bourgogne surrounded. Your show is always interesting and im glad your healing and havent lost any of your joy of life! ❤
So glad to know you are doing well. Always good to see you. Give yourself a year to be 100%. Thank you for harping on getting a mammogram. My (necessary and critical to my mental health) HRT was dependent on getting a negative result, so I put mammograms off for 10 years. It was getting stressful after hearing your story, so I finally went. It was negative. The peace of mind I have now is worth $1 million dollars. Thank you.
That mushroom and gnome piece is really cute. Looks easy enough that I might be able to do it - if I wasn’t watching my energetic 7 year old grandson. LOL. Ruth.
The original book has a photo of every quilt. I borrowed it from a friend and took days to go through it, but I looked at every quilt and read every word.
I’m glad we’re waiting on the ties. My sewing room is almost ready and we’ve been forced to go through our clothing. I found some silk pants and tops and a silk aloha shirt that I can use. Finally admitting that the silk outfit will not fit anymore. Ties are not worn here- we have three and they just aren’t available. Glad you made it to my island. Hope you enjoyed it. Love the little mushroom and gnome wall hanging.
Aloha Jackie.I’ve been on ML for 18 years now but lived n shore and bought tons of ties for .$25 ea at Kilauea thrift shop. I think there were plenty cuz ML retirees moved to island and realized no need ties! Don’t know if helps but hope so. 😉
24:30 oh my. can anyone else spot the two blocks where the half square triangles are inserted the wrong way? hoping joanna saw them there and decided to leave both as is. 😆
I wonder if the quilt with the one block that was off was made by an Amish/Mennonite woman? I was told that they would have one block that is different because only God makes perfect things.

Looking GREAT Alex. Good to see you. 👍❤️
May God continue you to bless you...keeping smiling for the whole world smiles with you. This too shall pass and you will be back to 100%.

So wonderful to see you again Alex. Thanks for the live.

I saw that exhibit. It was stupendous. It was like being in a church... everyone was awestruck.
Hi Alex. I’ve been missing your vlogs. I’m so happy you are healing so well. My thoughts and prayers are with you as you continue your journey
I watched you years ago. I am so happy to have found you again
So good to see you Alex!
Glad you are doing good. Yeah for Hawaii Trip. Going myself in July for 40th Anniversary. Hope it doesn't rain too much.
Oh! I found you. I’ve been trying to get an update on how you’re doing. It’s so good to see you.
I took a picture of the mistake before you mentioned it. My friend just made a similar mistake and I can’t wait to send this to her.
Welcome back! You look great! Glad you’re feeling better!
So great to see you! Charae San Jose
I think a pattern of that would be great. I just love it it's so cute.

Super; super presentation. Love red n white😊
We got to see the drawers when we were there!
Good to see you. Show was terrific. Could you tell me who Joanna is? Thank you
The helix design/display is very similar to a display at Yad Vashem in Jerusalem which has been there for years.
Noticed the backward triangle about lower right 2/3 down. “Only God makes no mistakes”
Love red & white!
A bit disappointed that there weren't more pictures of the quilts. Are there more in the book?
The original book has a photo of every quilt. I borrowed it from a friend and took days to go through it, but I looked at every quilt and read every word.
Noticed the little girl was sketching designs with a red pen and the notebook had a red spiral bind..

Maybe done on purpose to show that life isn't perfect.
What about the ties?
You look different without wearing glasses.
Probably on purpose😊
