This was super helpful! Glad I came across your post on IG pointing to this! One thing I remember a guy a REI telling me is he aligns the sternum strap with his armpits, so I set the strap so if it wrapped around my body, the top edge of the strap cuts right across the armpits.

I’m a newb with a larger pack like the. Bought this same Exo pack about a month ago and have had a hell of a time getting it to fit right. It doesn’t fit snug up against my back and I can seem to get the load lifters at the right angle. Every time I watch a video like this I see the front of the should straps coming down much further than mine
I finally set photos in to Exo and, while I consulted with then ahead of time about size, they are now saying I should have gotten the 26.5 inc frame instead of the 25 due to the size of my chest and shoulders. Does this sound right ?

Man, sorry you're going through that. Unfortunately, that does sound accurate though. The taller frame should raise up the torso length adjustments. Loosening everything first is crucial for getting th right fit as well. Not saying you're not doing that, but it's something to keep in mind that could 100% not allow the shoulder straps to wrap over enough on the shoulders, thus keeping the load lifter back.

Just bought your book.... Going on my first backpacking trip to hunt black bear in California. Should I be nervous and extremely careful field dressing bear? I hear all the scary worm stories and don't know how serious that issue is.

That's awesome man! Thanks for picking it up. For the bears, I'm assuming you're talking about trichinosis. This is more of a concern for eating. Just cook it well done and you'll be fine. If you're worried about anything with field dressing, just wear gloves. I do on a regular basis. Makes clean up much easier.

@@DialedinHunter No problem I'm looking forward to reading it. Thanks for the advice on the bears I appreciate it. We both carry a pair of gloves so I'll make sure to wear them.
