It's extremely rare to see a song that gets a remake where the song completely improves, THIS is a perfect example of a remake of a song, improved in every way
Overall, This song is mostly a complete upgrade to the original. However, the drowning segment feels like it's lost some effect with it being a bit more intense and less lo-fi. Just my opinion though. Still some absolutely exquisite work here, Case. Edit because I want to be honest: Something else about that drowning segment, while the new vocals are (ironically) a breath of fresh air, i feel like the old vocals pulled off that part a bit better, particularly at 1:13's held notes. However, this update more than makes up for it with that kickass bassline after that segment.

For me the old one was just...meh,Ben voice was hard to hear,the beginning of the song was boring and the only good thing it was the drowning part and the instrumental But this one it's just banger! Ben voice being fixed,the instrumental getting a upgrade and the drowning part giving a new voice to Ben. I loved it
The old drowning section is better, this one is good, don't get me wrong, but the other one just had a different more "accurate" voice than this one, since you can hear ben's voice clearly in this one it doesn't sound like he's actually underwater, but the other one did have a more "muffled" voice that made it sound like was actually underwater wich made it better and actually souded like he was drowning. This honestly feels more like a remix than an update, while the original song had a more menacing tone, this one is more "musical" and doesn't sound as scary as the other one. Btw this is just my opinion, im not trying to offend anyone.
I like both this and the og equally, each has its own uniqueness to them that tells why. The og has the muffled gargled voice that gave the impression that he was actually drowning, and the sudden switch from intense, to terrifyingly calm (as such drowning is) back to intense again, which I really liked. And although In this version ben doesn't sound gargled anymore, I can finally hear his voice. and It has an effect to where I can almost hear "drowned" Ben and "drownING" Ben singing together, if that makes sense. But drowned Ben's voice is In the background and is rather quiet, so its noticable, but creates a sort of echo effect making ben himself seem far from you. and the drum solo in the instrumental as the song is reaching it's end is now less noticable, but noticable enough to where it's perfect. I also like the sudden silence or quietness that separates the intense part from the drowning segment, its almost like at first all you hear is the rough waves, the next is silence as you dive straight into the water. Although I still miss the gargled drowning effect, I do think the vocals are very much improved. I really loved the vocals of the drowning segment. I'm also glad that the vocals pretty much stayed the same in it, though I think it would sound nice to hear pitch bends, it sounds great already.

If we were to hypothetically have the drowning segment not be about drowning, i do feel like these vocals would suit that area! To me it sounds like ben talking to boyfriend emotionally about his pain and really creates a sympathetic moment between the two. but because it is a segment about ben in the process of drowning, the drowning water-filled lungs effect is better suited but the vocals are still very nice and would fit very well for a non-drowning segment. and the quick transition mixed with laughter was great! a very great update to an already good song.

It's also like Endless in a different way, where it gets a good remake that a huge crowd of followers hate. Yes, I know people have different opinions. But this is too much hate for amazing song revamps that it's definitely a few real opinions followed by a huge chunk of people trying to fit it, make a "trend", or just love the old one so much they don't care if the new one's amazing.

This is 100x better than the og this is literally a banger! But like others have stated I do like the og part and I think it’s cause bens voice kinda had like a drowning effect in his voice. It sounded like his voice had water in it when he was singing which was a really good detail in the og. This version doesn’t really have that effect which is why it doesn’t sound as emotional as the og one. Not saying this version is bad because it’s far from that. I used to only listen to the frowning part but now I feel like the non drowning part IS the best part because it’s so good! Anyways I’m sure you get a lot of comments about the og drowing being better so sorry about that but I just wanted to share my opinion on the full song
