Thanks so much for making this video and explaining everything in detail! Ever since Sonar came out and it drove me crazy because things stopped working, and when even the mixer knob stopped working last week it was really frustrating... but with your help I could fix it so thanks a lot!
Thank you so much. You're a savior. I've been dealing with this issue for months now and it has tilted me to high heavens and back. I even went out and bought a new headset because I was pissed and couldn't figure out why my headset wasn't working, but I just enjoy this headset way too much to change my ways so I went back and delt with the bs until once again it pissed me off for now the final time. Again.. thank you. I can rest easy now and turn my loud friends down with a simple scroll once again.
Yes! I love this headset too honestly. I think it was definitely an issue on discords end and not steelseries. Although forcing us to try and use their app was kind of dumb. I am glad it still works without their app.
I had (yes, had) a simpeler workaround that would work 99% of the time. If I entered a Discord Channel (or call): 1. Switch the Windows sound output to Chat; 2. Check if you hear the sound on that; 3. Switch the Windows sound output back to Game; 4. Tadaa, that should work again. if not: repeat a couple times. However, I'm here because that just didnt work anymore this evening and I was really really really really really sick of this bug. So thanks a lot!!! Now I understand why I got this bug after some time, because I haven't installed SteelseriesGG in the beginnen. Someone recommended it to me for the "Moments"-feature.
Switching USB ports did nothing for me (Feb 10, 2024). SteelSeries Software ruined everything, which I noticed right after their POS finished installing... Neither uninstalling Discord nor the SteelSeries crap fixed anything, the Headset simply shows as "CERTIFIED" (in Discord) instead of its formed "Chat", which made the Knob working on the SteelSeries Arctis 5. If I opt for the Certified OUTPUT method, the discord chat actually stops working and it stops YT videos from playing in the background... you have to set everything to Game to even have sounds, losing the knob function all together. If anyone finds the solution, I am furious right now....
FIX (for me) was this, since(Video did not do it for me... I got the same issue described in the video, but simple re-plug did not work... Issue: Discord can not split channels to Chat / Game anymore, can't use knob on the headset to adjust volumes, Discord VS rest of the apps (like YT or games) Headset: Steelseries Arctic 5 Windows 11 My finals settings to separate Chat / Game channels to be able to use the Steelseries Arctic 5 knob again... to adjust volume between Game / Chat Discord Voice settings: Input Device - Default (I am using a different microphone than on the headset) Output Device - SteelSeries Arctic 5 - Certified (also prior known as Chat) Windows 11 setting System > Sound > Volume mixer Output device: Steelseries Arctic 5 Game Input device: USB Mic (I am not using the steelseries mic, should not matter) Apps (in Volume Mixer... shows two Discord apps for me, either way, both are set like this) Discord -> Volume max, Output device: Default, Input device: USB Mic Google Chrome -> Output device: Steelseries Arctic 5 Game, Input device: Default (may not matter). If this helps anyone, I just didn't waste 12h fooling around with all kind of configs. What I also tried (and may fix your issue): Reinstalling Discord - did not work for me, but tried anyway Installing Steelseries software (that triggered the problem in the 1st place, I believe), then uninstalling it, reinstalling it, actually at one point it seemes like it worked with the SW installed. I also fooled around with Audio enhancements, in the end I ended up with Audio enhancements on "Device default effects" for both settings, Arctic Game and Chat. Arctic Game was set to Set as default sound device "Is default for audio" in its Properties options. Arctic Chat was set to Set as default sound device "Is default for communications" in its Properties options. Control Panel> Sound> Playback In BOTH - the Arctic Chat and Arctic Game > Properties > Advanced tab > Exclusive Mode (I have both options ON and it works as intended, thought I did mention this). If you want to compare more settings, feel free to comment here.
It makes no sense. I wanna blame steelseries for their stupidity but I think it's discord's issue. The new Arctis 7 headsets kind of suck as well can't even use the chat/game mixer wheel unless you have the app installed.
Dang! Dont know if SteelSeries or discord messed this stuff up further or not because I was having the exact issues you described with my new Arctis Pro Wireless headset and the fix did not work for me. Got rid of the certified channels, but even with the regular channels joining a discord call mutes everything thats supposed to be coming through the game channel. Tried some other recommended fixes with changing the bitrate and disabling windows enhancements but problem persists. If anyone has any leads please let me know
@@ChrisChevs yes and then when that didn't work I tried going to device manager and deleting the instance of the device on the original USB port to force my PC to resetup the device again but that didn't work either. Both ports are 3.0
I'm having the same problem and I've tried like 8 fixes so far and nothing is working. My headset will constantly randomly beep and stop working properly. I think it cuts out my mic in chats too. The fix in this video didn't fix it either, unfortunately. I'm going to keep trying things and maybe reach out to support.
For me in the future who forget how fix this crap/others that encounter the same problem with me Issues : knob/wheel in your right headphone, that function is to change sound priority to game or discord voice chat is broken/not working How it is supposed to work : when you scroll knob/wheel up : your discord voice chat sound is down - game sound is up, and when you scroll down : your chat sound is up - game sound is down Solution : 1. You can unistall steelseries GG just like in the video or just disable the sonar altogether in steelseries GG settings 2. PLUG YOUR DONGLE TO BLUE USB SLOT IN YOUR PC, THIS IS A MUST! since apparently your right knob/wheel only work properly if you plug the dongle into blue usb slot 3. Set your discord settings both input and output to STEELSERIES CERTIFIED 4. Hopefuly this solve the problem, try to invite music bot into your channel + play some game and see if your right wheel/knob work just like i say above
Go to windows sound settings and desable audio enhancements on your arctis 7 chat in the speakers tab. The chat channel definitely does sound more low quality than the game channel though for sure.
Unfortunately, none of this worked for me. My solution ended up being surprisingly simple: the Steel Series 7 is temperamental and *hates* being plugged into a USB hub of any kind. Removing it from my USB hub and going direct to my computer corrected the problem immediately.

Hiya I came across this video hoping you could help me with the Artic 7 mic. Since that's my only available mic and it keeps on making a static noise or not picking up audio. Any tips?
Mic could of gone bad from being bent too much. Discord has noise supression filters to get rid of the static. These mics are not great to begin with to be honest. Try download NVIDIA Broadcast if you have a 2000 series NVIDIA gpu or better, it will supress the background noise for you.
