Definitely the best bodybuilding youtube channel out there. Practical, concise, straight to the point, science, art, philosophy, all in one. A couple of months ago, I ordered my first sandbag inspired by your work. I asked for the 100 lbs one to start but got the 150 lbs instead! I was going to ask for an exchange but decided to challenge myself and give it a try. It was incredibly hard to lift it the first time, but after the first month, I could do the Bear Hug Carry for over 100 mts. I've noticed an incredible increase in my strength, and I've had to increase the weights I use at the gym because the bars and dumbbells I used before now feel light. The sandbag has become my absolute favorite! It's always challenging, it's tough, it's really fun, and it gives noticeable gains. Thank you so much for the progress you've brought to my training through sharing your experience and knowledge! I hope I can repay you somehow. Please never leave us without this beautiful channel!
Such a great comment thank you so much! Stories like this make every second put into making these videos worth it. Carrying 150 that far is a huge accomplishment keep it up!! I'll do my best to keep making videos worth your time 🙂
Of course they're worth it, brother. It's a huge achievement for you to bring such a unique and original concept that stands out among the thousands of fitness channels out there today. It's exactly what many of us needed to take the next step. Tired of seeing the same thing on almost every channel, just with a different face, your channel was like an oasis. I think a lot of people are missing out on the opportunity to see your content, so I've done my little part by sharing your channel with my family and friends at the gym. By the way, thanks for your supportive words! They are very motivating, I really appreciate it. The sandbag looks so simple and straightforward on video, but facing it in real life is like trying to tame a wild beast! Thanks again, and hey! I'm really looking forward to the book! Best of luck with that too 🪨💪🏼😎
@ivanvazquez7747 Again thank you! I really appreciate you sharing the channel around 🙂 It's been really great making these videos and realizing they're actually motivating some people, what a crazy thought!
we all have to make sure he's sold out of his book right out the gate!
@@basslinger Best Seller, baby!! 😎💪
Thats gonna be a first book that i will buy from a youtuber!
Dang I am so honored!
We're all gonna make it brahs

One of my favorite mantras. Fr.
💪💪
I got a 150 pound Cyclone bag from Rogue today and filled it with three fifty pound bags of sand. Man that is no joke. I tried it at first with 100 pounds of sand and thought, "Oh this isn't too bad. It's challenging, but not impossible." Then I dumped the last fifty pound bag in and holy krap. I did like two good walks with it, picked it up a few times and was done. My forearms, biceps, and lower back are toast, but in a good way. It was definitely a total body workout. I should have got the 100 pound bag, but thought it would have been too light. I might cut down on some of the sand and use some rubber mulch or something to lighten it. That bag sure did humble me. Mad respect to you and the work you can do with sandbags. It's no joke.
@Thedrizzle1000 I know that exact feeling haha, even an extra 20 lbs is so much heavier! Really impressive to manage 150 right from the start!!
I worked for 5 at a mill, the poses you are showing are exactly those we used. We tryd to lift 2x 50kg at the same time ore 3x 25kg just fore fun 😊. The owner was 72 back then this was at the turn of the millennium he out lifted us youngsters 😅.
That true 'old man' strength! 3 at once sounds so tough haha, we used to do this with bags of dog food that needed moved up to the second floor at one of my first jobs (I was tiny at that point and always lost haha)
You're on that NH, BaldOmniMan level. Keep the videos coming
Hey thanks a lot! I hope to one day be roasted by NH haha, one can dream :D
There needs to be a sandbag emoji.
Fr.
hahah I would use that so often :D
😂
We at least have this one 🪨🪨🪨
I love how this is proof gym's are not necessary to get ripped in fact, this is a realistic and actually functional strong body, I devour your videos ever since I found your channel!
Hey so glad you're liking the videos!! Sandbags and calisthenics, it's hard to beat that combo, no gym needed!
This is why your channel is no1 when it comes to sandbag training!
Your videos have helped me out so much in my sandbag journey and like you I have become hooked on them!
Can't wait for the book.... thank you again for all your motivation and knowledge Cody! 🙏
Man seriously I know I've said this before but without your encouragement I probably never would have written the book. Thank YOU for the motivation! Sorry it's taking so long to release, I'm just assuming there's stuff going on behind the scenes I don't understand, but I will admit waiting on others is not a strength of mine haha. Just a little longer 🙃
I will buy a 25 kg bag of dogfood to start
Really not a bad idea at all, they make those bags pretty tough! Should actually hold up a while if you don't drop it haha. Hope you enjoy it!
Buy a couple rolls of duct tape too
I started out with a 50lb bag of cat litter. Then duct tapped a 2nd bag to it after a couple weeks. Now im working with 130lbs of cat litter lol
@@thestonecircletheyre actually really tough. It wasnt until this past weekend that i finally had to repackage mine cause it finally sprung a leak. And i drop that thing from shoulder height all the time.
i bought a 50 lb bag of corn. Going to start today. for 10 bucks I figured it was a good start
Ive been implementing sandbag training for a few years now and what I absolutely love is how it bulletproofs your lowerback. I'm in the military and while other people complain about their backs all the time, I'm always fresh after a ruck, training event, etc.
Good to hear, I'm just starting because I want to bulletproof my back as well.
That's so awesome man, this stuff really works!!
Chair force here. My job forces me to sit on my ass all day at an intel job. Turns backs into glass overtime. I've been doing rdls hyperextensions and stiff legged deadlifts to try to bulletproof but I'm noticing the functional bulletproofing simply isn't there with the standard barbell lifts. I'm gonna have to get into this sandbag thing.
Man thanks for making these videos, I got my first sand bag about 2 months ago because of your videos. Cant wait for the book. 💪
Hey so glad you're enjoying them, I hope the sandbag training is going well so far!! I cannot wait to share the book, every day it's not out is another day I wish I didn't have to make you guys wait. Usually if something needs done I just keep going nonstop until it's finished. This is a new thing, waiting on other people to finish on their end haha. I think it should be worth it, thanks so much for the support!
Ive only done about 2 months of sandbag training so far and its crazy how fast my strength is increasing. Started with a 135lb, now at 200lb and my next goal is a 250lb bag that i still need to weigh. One of the craziest things is how good my lower back feels after doing all this, I used to have horrible lower back pain and now it feels so stable due to the extra muscle.
@Magic_Toaster that's so awesome!! You really do get so much stronger quick. My low back has felt great with the sandbags too, really glad it's been working for you!
It’s seems so easy as just, pick it up, and set it down, rinse and repeat in a variety of ways. Genius
That's pretty much it! Crazy something so simple is so effective haha
I am about halfway through Rock Iron Steel thanks to you. I got my home gym pretty much ready to go and have been lifting about 2 weeks now and feel great. I'm trying really hard to get you on the Mark Bell Podcast!! I think you would be a great guest and you have a great mindset and experience!! Glad to see you've improved your video quality!! Your channel is going to keep growing!!
@tvz111284 heck yeah such a good book glad the training is going well!! Man that would be so surreal, Mark Bell is one of those true og fitness guys. I remember watching him back with Silent Mike haha. I appreciate you doing that man!
Bought a 45kg sandbag because of your channel. Love this stuff, excellent work my man 👍👍👍
Heck yeah hope it's going well!!
I stumbled across your channel recently by chance, which inspired me to buy a sandbag and cancel my gym membership! The few things the bag can't train will instead be covered by calisthenics, and I don't know that I would've made these decisions if I hadn't seen your videos. Thanks a lot for making these man, and I'll be happy to pick up your book when it is available. 👍
Hey that's so awesome!! Sandbags and calisthenics is such a perfect combo, I hope you're enjoying it! Thanks for the support!
Working as gardener is a good way to get bag training. We prefer to get a scoop of mulch, but need to get bagged sometimes and it can get soaked with water and become super heavy. Lots of functional training opportunities in gardening. Farmer's carry, wheel barrow, weeding can carry on shoulder, squatting to pull weeds, shoveling, lots of hand strength building. I tend to feel more loosened up and physically well at the end of a long hard day of gardening than at the beginning. I like thinking about the relationship between my microbiome and the macrobiome of the soil. Mulching soil and growing plants in it provides a long-term boost to soil fertility and microbial diversity, interacting with that ecosystem tunes mine up.
Yeah there's nothing like coming in direct contact with the earth, seriously missing from most peoples lives these days.
Hey man I'm a gardener too and this is exactly how I feel, I also view work as incidental training, like you say squatting to pull weeds, moving heavy stuff, etc.
I also agree with the microbiome bit, we are so separated from nature and live extraordinarily clean lives. It's good to get a bit dirty. (Obviously I shower everyday and wash my hands, etc)
I also love the mental aspect of it, seeing my work pay off, seeing the garden flourish, observing nature, the sound of the trees, etc. I also love just sticking my headphones in and just grinding away at a job. Nobody to bother me or tell me what to do.
@@feldgraufox4927 Ya dude, good stuff. Be well :)
Can’t wait for the book dude 💀
@TheDogman-k928 thank you I can't wait to share it!!
Just be careful, y'all. Sandbag training is so fun that you can definitely overtrain and wreck your immune system for a bit 😅. Just don't dive into multi-hour training sessions multiple times a week and you should be fine.
Haha definitley been there :D
The exercise is wonderful, especially if we teach teenagers and young adults to do it as an alternative to carrying luggage at home. Thank you for this wonderful exercise.
Thank you!
Bro this video popped up right as I was finishing my sandbag workout. Impeccable timing.
Heck yes!! Hope it was a good workout
Heck yeah bro shouldering a sandbag goes hard every time
@@Th3Pr0tag0n1st It never stops being fun!!
Im so excited to buy your book. I sincerely hope its a great success. Your raw, modest and pure approach to strength and training is inspirational. I look forward to getting back to room in camp to pick my bag up everyday now. Thanks Stone Circle. Best random find ive come across on youtube to date.
Hey I appreciate it so much thank you! Good luck with your sandbag work!!
On my way back from Spain and I can't wait to be reunited with my Sand bags 😢😢😢
Heck yeah hope it was a good trip!
I recently started sandbag training by getting a 45kg punching bag that a family member wasn't using, something i like to do on top of the things you mentioned is to hold it with the bearhug and then toss it to the side by rotating my torso. Movements like this are kind of fun and it trains my obliques more in comparison to some of the other exercises.
Hey that's awesome! That exercise sounds really cool too
Managed 200 ft with a 220 bag in Sunday, with probably one more lap in the tank. Two weeks out from strongman provincials, I'm gonna win that max distance carry or black out trying. 😅 💪
Hell yes good luck with the comp!!
Good tutorial for any beginner to sandbags, cant wait to read your book !
Thank you!! Just went through the entire thing one last time and It's looking so good!
woohoo !!! 🥳🎉🎉🎉
Starting tomorrow! Just got my ironmind sandbag!
AWESOME!!
Oooh you’re good, the 100lbs bag came in today! Will probably get an opportunity to fill it sometime next week! Surprised by how small it is!
Heck yeah man can't wait to hear how you like it! Yeah the hundred pounders are almost like atlas stones!
Can’t wait for the book
Hey thanks I really appreciate it!!
Just got my first sand bag. I put 45kg in a 56kg bag, so it's a little floppy. It didn't feel too heavy to shoulder, but I'm taking it slow . I'm not a young man anymore and I'm out of shape. Looking forward to this though.
Thanks for the inspiration from Denmark
Hey that's so great! Glad you decided to give sandbag lifting a try, good luck with everything!
Another great video and look forward to your book.
Thank you!!
We'll patiently wait for the book. We know it'll be done right.
Great video. You fkin nailed it! Of course!
Thanks man!!
I just found your channel I’m 65 years old and want to start training with the sandbag and you have some very good information here for beginners that want to do sandbag training. Thank you for having a great channel and keep up the great work and I also subscribed to your channel too, thank you again.
Hey glad to have you here, good luck with the sandbag training!!
He said the video will be there and here it is. Thanks !
Hey hope it helped!
I'm in line for that book! Thanks for all of your time and work, really appreciate it, got my first sandbag in the mail, be here Friday, Thanks!
Hey seriously thank you for the support!! Can't wait for you to try the sandbag lifting!
If anyone is just starting out like he said, you can get a 50lb bag of sand at Home Depot easy. Throw a little duct tape on any spots that get a bit worn and you're good to go 👍
For sure! You could even try to wrap it with some kind of canvas material for some extra grip, but just the plain thing should be good!
Would you ever try something like grappling and post it to see the kind of difference sandbag training offers. Great channel btw you’ve made me fall in love with sandbags
Hey thank you I'm really glad you're enjoying training with sandbags!! I would very much like to do something like that!
This is perfect. I just got my first sandbag just a few days ago. It's only 50kgs (110lbs), and I'm kinda shocked at how weak I am. I thought my base level fitness was alright, considering I've got a physical job.
Anyway, because of time, location, and money restraints, I'm doing all my exercise at home, and I hope to have sandbags as the core of my training.
They always feel heavier than it seems like they should haha. Hope you're liking it so far! You'll be throwing that 50kg bag around like nothing in no time :)
I started with a 100 lb bag april 2023. I bought a 150 at the same time...couldn't even lift it after i filled it...haha! Now am doing bearhug carries with the 150...to the shoulder with a 125 and floor to chest with 175. Hoping for 200 by December. Don't be shy about wearing a good lifting belt...have fun.
@dalejansen127 such great progress seriously, rooting for you with the 200!
I have a few 70lb sandbags laying around to keep my Ford Ranger weighed down during the winter! I started when I watched your video on weighted walking and I've definitely been feeling stronger already!
Heck yeah! It's nice when you already have the thing haha. Glad to hear it's working for you!!
Looking forward to getting the book
Hey thank you so much I can't wait to share it!!
My question would be: can sandbags replace the gym completely? Just invest in a sandbag, get a pullup bar and some weights for weighted Calisthenics and join amartial arts gym. That feels like a way to be the most physically complete human being there is.
Yeah definitely! Barbells and gym stuff is great too, and you can combine both if you want, but I've personally replaced all my heavy lifting with sandbags and it's been great
Great video , I'm loving the sandbag , I finally found a fun functional whole body exercise that I like and enjoy !
Thank you!! I feel the exact same way about it. Finally a fun way to train that also consistently makes you bigger and stronger
i will add this to my workout
Good luck!
Smallest size i saw when i first heard about sandbags was 50kg, so as a complete newbie to any sort of exercise I went straight in. Was surprised I could get it so my shoulder within the first week. Its a glorious challenge every time.
That's super impressive!! Keep it up 💪💪
Gotta say, this is the best breakdown of sandbag training so far. Love all the content, keep it coming, and can't wait for the book.
Finally, got around to putting my 100# sandbag together this weekend and, it is by far my new favorite tool.
Hey thanks so much! Really glad to hear you're liking the sandbag, it's hard to go back once you start haha
Stumbled upon your channel randomly 2 weeks ago, never heard of sandbag lifting before. Binged all your videos to get up to date. Ordered 3 different size bags, getting them filled this week :) thanks and subbed 👍
AWESOME good luck with the sandbags you're gonna love it!! Glad to have you here :)
Damn, looking huge man!
Looking forward to the day i can afford a sandbag haha, i started my first bulk yesterday.
I recommended your channel to all my friends.
Hey thanks so much, good luck on the bulk!!
Hey mate just wanted to give you a shoutout for all your work and congratulations on the growth. I've been watching your vids since the early days and it's nice to see the improvements and acknowledgments. I've been primarily sandbag training for a couple months now as I was just bored of barbell work, I've been having a lot of fun and enjoying my workouts again. Thanks for the tips along the way and I wish you more success as you move forward with your goals and channel.
I don't usually care or support "influencers" or RUclipsrs given a lot of their stuff is bs or there's an agenda behind it but I'm looking forward to your book and will likely grab myself a copy. You're not here for the bs just dedication, consistency and hard work which I respect.
All the best 👍
Hey it's really great to hear from you! Thanks for all the encouragement, I really appreciate you being here even when my videos were much worse haha. And thank you about the book too, I cannot wait to share it! Really great to hear you've started working with sandbags too, good luck with the gains!!
Thank you for this video, you answered almost every question I had! (after checking the description I have them all :) )
Hey really glad I could help!!
My friend and I are starting sandbag training after watching ur vids. Thanks for opening my eyes to this type of training :)
That's so awesome good luck!!
Lifting to my chest is “easy” but getting it to my shoulder is exhausting! I stand up and feel like I want to puke. I love it
Haha I definitely get that!
This string bean is ready to go! Got set up with your sandbag hypertrophy video the past couple weeks. Going for every day now this past week because this sandbag training is leaving me restless on my rest days. I'm now alternating your sandbag schedule (with a few ending sprints after seeing you talk about them before) with push ups+abs+jog between and a long run on Sunday (Bioneer's influence on the running).
Got myself a 50lb Home Depot bag of sand to start with. Ordered an actual sandbag that'll be here in a few weeks. Till then I do have some rather large logs to use when I'm ready for them. This string bean is shooting to be quite the bean stalk!
You've resonated with me. I'm grabbing that book when its out, full price if I can. No rush on a job well done.
Heck yeah!! That's one badass training program, good luck with it! And I really appreciate that with the book thank you :)
Perfect timing! I've been watchting your videos the last few days, eager to bring my sandbag lifting to a new level
Hey awesome I hope this helps!!
This video was amazing! 💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
Thank you!!
Thanks
Glad you liked it!
Keep it up, excited for the book!
Happy to share advice about self publishing, printing, etc. - my wife has shipped thousands of books and has a lot of accumulated knowledge.
Writing is the best way to make a business of sharing knowledge, even in the days of video. I’m really stoked you’ve chosen this route.
also obliged to say you’ve inspired me to find some joy in a replacement for oly.
been moving a 100lb bag of gravel but unfortunately my skin is allergic to the burlap sack I used 🙃 need to get a proper bag, and soon!
Hey thank you! That's so cool I'm really completely new to the whole process. Main thing I've learned so far is actually writing the book seems to be a surprisingly small step towards actually releasing it haha. I'm being as patient as I can waiting on the company to finish on their end. What I've seen looks pretty cool though!
That's awesome about the lifting too! A lot of oly lifters seem to feel right at home with sandbags, really lets you use all that power you built!
Haha yeah, all that back and forth takes its toll - just need patience and attention to detail!
Good news is, once you’ve done it the first time, you know all the things you need to do for the next book ;)
Cheering for ya!
Oh, and if you ever put up a patreon or ko-fi - you’ve got my pledge!
@Y4r0k yes exactly! Definitely has to be another one eventually, just gotta keep trying to improve until then 🙂 and thank you I really appreciate that!
Thanks for all your videos, because of you I really got into sandbag training.
last summer I first started with a 75 kg (165 lbs) sandbag, but that one was actually too heavy for me to learn the basics - bought a 50 kg (110 lbs) to get into proper technique and since then working with the 75 kg one felt way better; I'm managing shoulder carries with that one, something I couldn't imagine doing when i started out.
I even bought a 100 kg (220 lbs) last month, bearhug carries are doable after a proper warm up and after getting into the right mind set, but shouldering it is not quite possible
That's another great thing about working out in general: always something to look forward to! :D Just like your book, cant wait!
Hey that's so awesome!! Shoulder carries with 75kg are no joke, that weight feels heavy QUICK! Congrats on working with that 100kg too, that's definitely well into the territory of 'never stops being difficult' haha. Thanks for your support!!
Another perfect video.
Carry on brother
Thank you!!
Looking forward to the book.
Thanks so much for the support!!
Good luck with the book 👍
Hey thank you!
Got my first sandbag today, I'm 134lbs and it's 93lbs! 😅 Thanks for this excellent video (and the others!) 👍💪
Hey that's awesome good luck with it!!
What a great tutorial! 👍💪
Also, I really like that you put time into checking the hardcopies of your book. Don't worry about the whole publishing process taking longer than expected! I believe most of your followers (or at least the hard core) are natural lifters like myself, and I also believe natural lifters don't tend to be particularly impatient. Rather, they are used to the fact that great results take time.
If I had to contribute anything in terms of advice for beginners myself, it would be: Lift sandbags as often as you feel up to it, but once a week do one "round-up training". Flex all your muscles and check which ones don't feel significantly sore yet. This will vary from person to person depending on your style and specific techniques. Then train whichever muscles feel like they can do with some extra work and let all the others recover.
Thank you! I hope you're right, maybe I'm just not used to waiting on others, but it feels like every day it's not out yet is a day I'm letting people down. Hope to hear back from those guys today about some final revisions I sent back, fingers crossed!
Also that's a really interesting idea about the 'round-up training' I like that! I bet that would make a cool video too if you ever wanted to, I'd definitely watch it :)
Excellent video man, great information. Sandbag carry’s are awesome, they’re unique and just pulverise the whole body 🤘🤘🤘
Thanks man! They really are so brutal!
I don't wanna be a bodybuilder I just wanna have a muscular and strong body and sandbag training is the way to do it
Tough to beat sandbags for getting strong!
Just bought that sandbag on amazon, now where to get sand Lol.
Awesome!! Play sand from home depot or whatever hardware store is nearby is best unless you live near a beach! (The play sand is meant for sandboxes so it's sifted to remove anything sharp)
When you do get your sand from a home depot type of place try to get the driest sand if possible.
Another great video. Your doing good, channel is growing. Hey you definitely putting in work. Your a solid dude. Are you still training back everyday? Crazy s,o,b
Hey thanks man! Definitely been grinding away :) and yeah still doing back everyday haha
This chanel is brilliant!!
Thanks so much!!
Man have ever try sandbag get ups?If you don't give it a try and see how it feels 💪
I've tried a few times and I definitely have some work to do haha, so tough!
Was thinking to start with a 45 kg bag(the ones I am looking at start at 20, 30 and then 45 for some reason. But I probably best start with 30 so I don't wreck something. Got a 25 kg boxing bag that can help fill the gap if it's too heavy. 62 kg bodyweight
Hey awesome to hear you're planning on getting started with it! If you can get that 25kg down for some good volume and master the basic techniques I don't think 45kg should be too much! Another option could be to get an old canvas bag from a thrift store and line it with trash bags and fill it up to 30 or whatever it will fit, cheap way to make that jump from 25 to 45 less extreme
I found the 20 kg sand bags that the sand came in to be cumbersome enough. And they humbled me really well; remembered I have a big strength weakness in the lift off position 😂 So a low weight bag and valsalva maneuver is a perfect recommendation to start off with 💪😊
Good stuff!
Hey thank you!
I see this translating straight into wrestling or mma
More so than any other form of lifting. I wrestled in highschool and nothing has given me a similar sensation to throwing another person around as throwing a sandbag around.
It really seems to help a lot of people out!
Dude I keep loving the way you make your video’s men. Awesome.
Would say that what helped me staying injury free (I guess) is also using kettlebell swings (or use your banded goodmorning) so you get conditioned in the lower back. And kettlebell windmill’s to strengthen the oblique and QL.
Haven’t found a sandbag exercise to do that. Any thoughts?
Thank you!! Swings are so great, I haven't found any sandbag exercises to replicate those windmills they seem really unique to kbs, but there are a few Band exercises I really like. There's one called a 'band arm spin' that mimics the wrestling move its pretty awesome
Bro… your upper body reminds me of John Haack! Awesome shit!
Hell yeah thank you he is such a strong dude!!
Superb.
Thank you!
Let's say we outgrow the initial sandbag, how much more will the new sandbag weigh? I'm guessing it's like 50 lbs
You can get by with a couple 50lb jumps at first once you've passed that inital stage, but once you hit 175-200 jumps of 20-25 seem to work a lot better!
🤘 algorithm… I’ll watch later once I’m home
@@StopTheDamnTape thanks man! 🤘🤘
I haven't gotten my hands on a sandbag yet. But I do have a 44lb medball. I also have three punching bags: a 40lb, 70lb, and 100lb.
I'm wondering how applicable these would be for this kind of modality.
I think those things would be a great way to start! You could build up a lot of strength that way and learn the basics, then move onto a heavier sandbag when you're ready
@@thestonecirclejust finished the video. I paused because I was in the middle of a weighted calisthenics workout. 💪🏻😎
Thanks for the reply. My 100lb bag is pretty dang heavy, so it'll be some good work for me. 150's unfathomable (I'm only 135!).
I've been devouring your content! Thanks, keep it up, and congrats on the book!
@@stormrhode2330heck yeah hope the calisthenics workout went well!! Yeah 100 really does feel so much heavier than it should haha. Thank you! 🙂
it's like you saw me struggling and knew I needed help lol. this video is very well thought out.
I'm competing in a strongman comp in September and one of the events is a heavy sandbag carry. These tips will help a lot in my prep.
I've been wondering, any sandbag lifting tips for those of us with little t rex arms? Right now I just try to crush it as hard as I can to hold it in place, since I can't really get my arms around it.
(Also speaking of dinosaurs, I'm not sure how you knew I just started reading dinosaur training but good instincts)
Haha yes, sandbag lifting, strongman and dinosaur training?? This was definitely meant for you :D I've found that squeezing crush strength develops pretty quickly if you keep at it. I really had to start getting better at it when I started working with sandbags I also couldn't wrap my arms all the way around. It took a couple weeks but the strength caught up quick!
Hey, man. Just wanted to let you know I bought the IrondMind sandbag that you have posted in the description. Planning on starting my routine sometime thise week. Thanks for the inspiration, bro!
Hey I hope you like it!! The ironmind is so great, very durable and the shape isn't quite as wide as some of the others which makes it more manageable to lift imo!
@@thestonecircle It's got a nice feel, so for. I filled half the bag with about 70-80 pounds of sand and the other half with a trash bag full of clothes I'm not using.
@@RandomGuythe1st that's awesome time to make some gains!
Appreciate all you do 👍🏼 Looking forward to book release! I know it’ll be as worthy as Dinosaur Training and Rock, Iron and Steel of which I own. You could even offer signing as Brooks Kubik did🙏🏼
Hey thank you!! I can only hope it will live up to those legendary books :) and that's not a bad idea at all I'll have to look into it!
@@thestonecircle Yeah, just a little note inside the front cover gives a more personal feeling…something that’s missing in today’s society I’m afraid. And Brooks only did it if requested when a book was ordered 👍🏼
@carvinclark Yeah it really would add that personal touch! Think the problem is Amazon just prints most of the books in house now, so you don't end up with a spare room full of merch. Eventually I plan on setting up a website and I could probably order some books to sell that way!
@@thestonecircle Gotcha…makes sense 👍🏼
Great video as always. But one thing that always impresses me in your sandbag lifts is your bulging eyes! xD what an effort.. but that made me search about the effects of heavy lifting in eye pressure and I discovered that it may carry a significant risk of glaucoma and eyesight lost, and the known studies are about regular lifting.. I really think that sandbag lifting is a near perfect exercise, but as its the advantages mainly come from the generated pressure in the body I´m a bit concerned about the medium/long term consequences of chronically high vascular pressure it induces on the body... again I think that balance and body sensitivity is the key to equilibrium and health.
Hey thank you! Yeah I definitely get the crazy eyes haha. That's an interesting point I hadn't thought of, I've never heard of long term powerlifters or other strength sport guys having trouble with eyesight but maybe they just don't talk about it
I'm super interested in the uncoventinal weights such as sandbags, kettlebells, maces, hammers, etc... However, at the same time I don't want to let go of the dumbbells and barbells, so my question is this: how can I implement a sandbag routine into my BB and DB workout?
I think you'll like it! I go over that near the end of the video. I also made a video a while back on the topic that might help too! ruclips.net/video/3QqVJxX1shE/видео.html
Another great video Cody! Can you share what weights you're throwing around now? Are you mainly using bodyweight or are you up/down 25% on that for mo' fun?! 😁
Thank you!! Before I cut down I was throwing 250 onto my shoulder like nothing and 275 was getting close. This last month or so at the very end of the cut I've been working mostly with 200 and the 150 (mostly because its been fun throwing it around haha). I think the strength is still there to shoulder 250 ive just been waiting to attempt it again until I'm back up a few pounds. I can still get it to chest height without too much trouble which is promising, considering it weighs 100lbs more than me haha
@@thestonecircle Daaaaamn that's outstanding!! OK you've set a new bar for me. It's just over 90 degrees here right now, I'm sure the heat adds another 25 pounds of stress! 🥵 Time to get the blue bag... 🤬😁
sorry for the desturb, but i would like to ask you an advice. I just have a dip station/pull up bar and sone db. my goal is not to have big muscle, but just to be toned. I have created this routine for the upper . Day 1 150 Push ups in less time as possibile (I’going to have difficult variation, more reps in less time/ Abs 5 minutes AMRAP/ reverse flyes 3x10. DAY 2: 3 set of Wall handstand push ups/ 3 set of weighted pull ups/ 4 set of australian pull ups to failure + pull ups drop set. Some abs at the and. 1 rest day beetween day 1 and day 2. Thanks in advice
Hey I think that looks pretty good. I like your focus on counterbalancing all the pushups with the rear delt work.
@@thestonecircle yeah, i noticed that skipping the rear delt my posture was getting worst. Still thanks a lot
what is that longsleeve white shirt you wear in your videos and where did you get it? looks awesome, like a medieval tunic
This is the one! www.medievalcollectibles.com/product/jonathan-shirt/
@@thestonecircle thanks bro! you've inspired me to work harder, especially on my back training, keep up the good work!
@user-mq1mu2wl1x heck yeah thank you good luck with the training!
First off, just wanna say I’m a huge fan of the videos. I recently started doing sandbag bear hug carries and I love them. However, after one particular session I had some pretty bad back pain in my lumbar region. Any tips to avoid straining the lower back?
@haydensandberg5490 hey glad to hear you're enjoying the videos! Sorry about the back pain that sucks, my best advice is to focus all your attention on bracing the core above everything else. Also lots of direct low back and ab work seems to help. I always end my sandbag workouts with 100 reps on the 45 hyper + ab work
@@thestonecircle I figured there must be a weak link in the chain. I also probably rushed the weight a bit too fast I’ll make sure to dial it back and focus on bracing. Thanks for the advice!
Great channel, ive just bought the cerberus 45kg bag to start the journey. cheers. is your book out yet? Should of watched the full video before commenting🤣, feel free to send me a copy to proof read if you like😉. cheers
Hey thank you! I just finished proofreading it for the final time the other day :D Things seem to be moving fairly quickly now! That's awesome about the new sandbag too good luck!!
I got into sandbags via Brian Alsruhe and his sandbag program. Really good stuff. How do you feel about his suggestion to have two or three different sizes? I just have a 45 kg and shoulder carries/over the shoulder throws is pretty tough with it, but could definitely do more with bear hug carries and squats. Can do 200 steps, should I try a size that gives me closer to 50 steps maybe?
I would say that a cary you can only get 50 steps with is a completely different workout to a carry you can get 200 steps with. If youre able to have multiple weights of sandbags, you definitely should. But its not completely necessary. You can still do a lot with just 1.
I was able to make progress for a long time with just one, but once I got a few different weights I got significantly stronger pretty quick! I think it's worth it if you can but one definitely works too
Do you have a workout program to buy anywhere? Or a comprehensive list of what you do every week for training?
I have a full book on that coming out in the next month! :) I did talk a bit about it in my recent 2 year daily back training update vid, but it's def not a comprehensive list. I'll have a video coming out alongside that book too
Perfect timing! Do you think a stone will work to start off with? as i don't have proper sandbag, just a boxing bag that is not very heavy, and also the shape of it is wrong, at least from looking at the sandbags you are using. And i don't really want to spend 80 bucks on a sandbag :p.
For sure stones work perfect!
How would you suggest managing SI joint fatigue when adding sandbag work to my current bodybuilding program? I want those spinal erector gains but I'm concerned that with basically no eccentric phases the sandbag lifts ,though they're undeniably fun, take a lot from you while not giving you the best returns in hypertrophy.
I see what you're saying exactly, but if you look at the spinal erectors they rarely do eccentrics anyway. Deadlifts are seen as one of the best spinal erector builders ever, but the erector muscles act as stabilizers rather than movers during the entire thing, lifting or lowering. My experience has been that they really add a lot of muscle, even though on paper it seems like they shouldn't
Any advice on training sandbags in an apartment? Do you think some kind of mat would help the noise of dropping the bag?
@TonyTorEBC a mat will probably help! my best advice would be to use a loosely packed sandbag. The sand moves when it hits the ground and the force is more evenly dispersed. I'd also say try to only drop it from waist height or lower
@@thestonecircle thank you brother, I appreciate the help…your channel has definitely helped me level up in my calisthenics, now on to sandbags🫡
sir, any idea for pre-strengthening your lower back for lifting sandbags? I recently injured my disc whe lifting a sandbag.
It's an old injury reappearing. Now I'm on my way back, been doing a lot of core work, isometrics, high rep BW reverse hypers, hip flexor wrok, and walking. Any other ideas from you?
It sounds like you've about got it covered, but I'd add in very light sandbags. Do the lifts you want to do to properly work the movement pattern, just make sure it's with a completely safe weight.
Dang I'm really sorry to hear that :/ Assuming you aren't feeling any pain and have the okay to keep lifting, doing what you have been sounds like it will help, and for sandbags focusing more on the basic bear hug carry might be a good way to go. That exercise can really strengthen the core muscles without putting you into a vulnerable position. Also really focusing on breathing and bracing, hoping for a speedy recovery for you!
@@thestonecircle thank you!
what do you think about using a powerlifting belt when training with sandbags? I think about using it so it prevents me from overextending the spine, which is most often the trigger for my injury.
Does the sandbag recommended in the description come filled with sand already? It says 300 lbs is it's full capacity but some parts make me assume it's filled
Nah just the bag and a couple liners for the inside, you can get play sand pretty cheap at the hardware store though!
Anyone have recommendations for a first sandbag? So many seem to sell a bag with no sand...
It doesn’t make sense to sell them with sand because the shipping costs of something that heavy would be so much more expensive. Sand is easy to find at hardware stores. You can also use wood pellets which are lighter but take up more volume.
I got a 50-125lb sandbag from a brand called Yes4All. I cut all the handles off and it’s been pretty robust a couple of months in.
Yeah play sand from the hardware store is the way to go! I've seen the yes4all one it's good to hear it's holding up. rogue cerberus and ironmind have all been great, but if you don't want to invest much money up front you can always buy a cheap canvas bag from a thrift store and line it with trash bags too!
@@thestonecircle @saba2655 Thank you both for the advice!
Can you buy a 100lb bag and just partially fill it instead of buying a 75lb bag?
Yeah definitely! A partly filled sandbag feels a bit different than a fully packed bag, but it should get you ready for that 100
I realise how ludicrous this question may sound but stick with it, I have a sandbag that can take upto 100kg of sand, currently filled with 55kg (or there about) I'm not a fan of the extra...sag (if that makes sense?)
Any recommendations on a filling that will give weight and dimension to the bag to fill it out?
Wood pellets. A 50lb bag of wood pellets (like for a meat smoker) is around twice the size of a 50lb bag of sand.
Haha not ludicrous at all! They actually sell crumb rubber you can get for that exact purpose, I'm sure the wood pellet recommendation would work great as well. In the thumbnail picture for this video I actually brought that sandbag up to the mountains empty and filled it with soil so I could get pictures for the book, that worked really great too! Definitely takes up a lot more space than straight sand
What are the sandbag weights you use?
@Cmc.1984. 150, 200, 220, 250, 275, and 300 though I haven't worked much with the 300 yet 😁
So, if I’m a taller skinny guy, with little muscle so far. Should I bulk up considerably before starting this kind of training?
What is your height/weight and how many years experience do you have training? Sandbag training is much different than gym training because it's an asymmetrical object. Usually a good place to start is around 20-30% bodyweight. From there you can increase load in 5-10% increments(or however you deem fit). So start at 20% and then move up to 25 or 30% bodyweight over time. There is a ton of information available on this topic so let me know what your baseline is and I will help as best as I can. Cheers 🤙
Having some extra fat around your stomach will make things easier, especially if you want to get really advanced with the sandbag to shoulder, but you can still get really far without the extra fat! For example I was pretty lean at 160 and shouldered 250. You could definitely start now if you want to, I'd just definitely make sure you feel confident with the valsalva maneuver before getting into it. Eating in a surplus while lifting sandbags is sure to add a lot of muscle too!
@@Travishibachi87 6 foot 2. And about 155 lbs. I appreciate your insight, those are great places to start.
@@thestonecircle awesome! Thank you!
