Definitely the best bodybuilding youtube channel out there. Practical, concise, straight to the point, science, art, philosophy, all in one. A couple of months ago, I ordered my first sandbag inspired by your work. I asked for the 100 lbs one to start but got the 150 lbs instead! I was going to ask for an exchange but decided to challenge myself and give it a try. It was incredibly hard to lift it the first time, but after the first month, I could do the Bear Hug Carry for over 100 mts. I've noticed an incredible increase in my strength, and I've had to increase the weights I use at the gym because the bars and dumbbells I used before now feel light. The sandbag has become my absolute favorite! It's always challenging, it's tough, it's really fun, and it gives noticeable gains. Thank you so much for the progress you've brought to my training through sharing your experience and knowledge! I hope I can repay you somehow. Please never leave us without this beautiful channel!
Such a great comment thank you so much! Stories like this make every second put into making these videos worth it. Carrying 150 that far is a huge accomplishment keep it up!! I'll do my best to keep making videos worth your time 🙂
Of course they're worth it, brother. It's a huge achievement for you to bring such a unique and original concept that stands out among the thousands of fitness channels out there today. It's exactly what many of us needed to take the next step. Tired of seeing the same thing on almost every channel, just with a different face, your channel was like an oasis. I think a lot of people are missing out on the opportunity to see your content, so I've done my little part by sharing your channel with my family and friends at the gym. By the way, thanks for your supportive words! They are very motivating, I really appreciate it. The sandbag looks so simple and straightforward on video, but facing it in real life is like trying to tame a wild beast! Thanks again, and hey! I'm really looking forward to the book! Best of luck with that too 🪨💪🏼😎
@ivanvazquez7747 Again thank you! I really appreciate you sharing the channel around 🙂 It's been really great making these videos and realizing they're actually motivating some people, what a crazy thought!
I love how this is proof gym's are not necessary to get ripped in fact, this is a realistic and actually functional strong body, I devour your videos ever since I found your channel!
I got a 150 pound Cyclone bag from Rogue today and filled it with three fifty pound bags of sand. Man that is no joke. I tried it at first with 100 pounds of sand and thought, "Oh this isn't too bad. It's challenging, but not impossible." Then I dumped the last fifty pound bag in and holy krap. I did like two good walks with it, picked it up a few times and was done. My forearms, biceps, and lower back are toast, but in a good way. It was definitely a total body workout. I should have got the 100 pound bag, but thought it would have been too light. I might cut down on some of the sand and use some rubber mulch or something to lighten it. That bag sure did humble me. Mad respect to you and the work you can do with sandbags. It's no joke.
Ive been implementing sandbag training for a few years now and what I absolutely love is how it bulletproofs your lowerback. I'm in the military and while other people complain about their backs all the time, I'm always fresh after a ruck, training event, etc.
Chair force here. My job forces me to sit on my ass all day at an intel job. Turns backs into glass overtime. I've been doing rdls hyperextensions and stiff legged deadlifts to try to bulletproof but I'm noticing the functional bulletproofing simply isn't there with the standard barbell lifts. I'm gonna have to get into this sandbag thing.
@@stevendtillman6258 Bulletproofing still can be done with barbells if you start doing jefferson curls or zercher deadlifts, but I get what you are saying
I am about halfway through Rock Iron Steel thanks to you. I got my home gym pretty much ready to go and have been lifting about 2 weeks now and feel great. I'm trying really hard to get you on the Mark Bell Podcast!! I think you would be a great guest and you have a great mindset and experience!! Glad to see you've improved your video quality!! Your channel is going to keep growing!!
@tvz111284 heck yeah such a good book glad the training is going well!! Man that would be so surreal, Mark Bell is one of those true og fitness guys. I remember watching him back with Silent Mike haha. I appreciate you doing that man!
This is why your channel is no1 when it comes to sandbag training! Your videos have helped me out so much in my sandbag journey and like you I have become hooked on them! Can't wait for the book.... thank you again for all your motivation and knowledge Cody! 🙏
Man seriously I know I've said this before but without your encouragement I probably never would have written the book. Thank YOU for the motivation! Sorry it's taking so long to release, I'm just assuming there's stuff going on behind the scenes I don't understand, but I will admit waiting on others is not a strength of mine haha. Just a little longer 🙃
Hey so glad you're enjoying them, I hope the sandbag training is going well so far!! I cannot wait to share the book, every day it's not out is another day I wish I didn't have to make you guys wait. Usually if something needs done I just keep going nonstop until it's finished. This is a new thing, waiting on other people to finish on their end haha. I think it should be worth it, thanks so much for the support!
I just found your channel I’m 65 years old and want to start training with the sandbag and you have some very good information here for beginners that want to do sandbag training. Thank you for having a great channel and keep up the great work and I also subscribed to your channel too, thank you again.
Great channel. Sandbag training is somewhat addictive in my humble opinion. I have been training for 40+ years and novel techniques never cease to amaze me. I am always exploring and your channel has stimulated my desire to continue this journey even at 59. Thank you.
@@thestonecircle it’s funny I’m sure like you, we love doing weird fitness stuff when no one is watching lol but what is awesome is having your RUclips channel allows you to share this passion. One of the things I’ve always wanted to do was inspire people young or old - I’m fully on board with the work you’re doing here so keep it up, and thank you for sharing your passion.
The exercise is wonderful, especially if we teach teenagers and young adults to do it as an alternative to carrying luggage at home. Thank you for this wonderful exercise.
I have a few 70lb sandbags laying around to keep my Ford Ranger weighed down during the winter! I started when I watched your video on weighted walking and I've definitely been feeling stronger already!
Just did my first heavy sandbag workout today. Starting with 100# with 3 exercises for max reps in 5 min each: bear hug carries, ground to shoulder, bear hug squats. Really challenged my conditioning, my heart was pounding and I was gasping for air. But I know I had a little more in my muscles. Can’t wait till the next session!
This string bean is ready to go! Got set up with your sandbag hypertrophy video the past couple weeks. Going for every day now this past week because this sandbag training is leaving me restless on my rest days. I'm now alternating your sandbag schedule (with a few ending sprints after seeing you talk about them before) with push ups+abs+jog between and a long run on Sunday (Bioneer's influence on the running). Got myself a 50lb Home Depot bag of sand to start with. Ordered an actual sandbag that'll be here in a few weeks. Till then I do have some rather large logs to use when I'm ready for them. This string bean is shooting to be quite the bean stalk! You've resonated with me. I'm grabbing that book when its out, full price if I can. No rush on a job well done.
Brilliant video everything you need to know to get going. I started my journey with sandbag training a few weeks back. Started with a 30kg Powerbag to slowly build confidence recently got a 75kg sandbag.Your content and channel have helped me understand and make improvements. I've gone from getting it to the shoulder by any means necessary to attempting to do it in clean movements, still taking baby steps, but loving the process.
Stumbled upon your channel randomly 2 weeks ago, never heard of sandbag lifting before. Binged all your videos to get up to date. Ordered 3 different size bags, getting them filled this week :) thanks and subbed 👍
Gotta say, this is the best breakdown of sandbag training so far. Love all the content, keep it coming, and can't wait for the book. Finally, got around to putting my 100# sandbag together this weekend and, it is by far my new favorite tool.
So first off, what youre doing for sandbags meeting bodybuilding is awesome. Huge inspiration for me to go this route as well. Ive completely replaced all other hinges and squats with sandbag relatives and using a modified 5/3/1 progress model. I dig the 1-2 all out sets method with sandbags in the mix, but they also allow for pretty safe variations. I.e. Top set of sanbag high pulls or pull to shoulder. Top set of sandbag squats or box squats. Top set of sandbag deads. Rest Fuckin chefs kiss
Hey thank you! I think the sandbag/bodybuilding combination is awesome and I'm glad others do too :) That sounds like a badass setup! Hard to beat 531 for long term progress, awesome idea combining it with sandbags
Keep it up, excited for the book! Happy to share advice about self publishing, printing, etc. - my wife has shipped thousands of books and has a lot of accumulated knowledge. Writing is the best way to make a business of sharing knowledge, even in the days of video. I’m really stoked you’ve chosen this route.
also obliged to say you’ve inspired me to find some joy in a replacement for oly. been moving a 100lb bag of gravel but unfortunately my skin is allergic to the burlap sack I used 🙃 need to get a proper bag, and soon!
Hey thank you! That's so cool I'm really completely new to the whole process. Main thing I've learned so far is actually writing the book seems to be a surprisingly small step towards actually releasing it haha. I'm being as patient as I can waiting on the company to finish on their end. What I've seen looks pretty cool though! That's awesome about the lifting too! A lot of oly lifters seem to feel right at home with sandbags, really lets you use all that power you built!
Haha yeah, all that back and forth takes its toll - just need patience and attention to detail! Good news is, once you’ve done it the first time, you know all the things you need to do for the next book ;) Cheering for ya!
@Y4r0k yes exactly! Definitely has to be another one eventually, just gotta keep trying to improve until then 🙂 and thank you I really appreciate that!
Hey mate just wanted to give you a shoutout for all your work and congratulations on the growth. I've been watching your vids since the early days and it's nice to see the improvements and acknowledgments. I've been primarily sandbag training for a couple months now as I was just bored of barbell work, I've been having a lot of fun and enjoying my workouts again. Thanks for the tips along the way and I wish you more success as you move forward with your goals and channel. I don't usually care or support "influencers" or RUclipsrs given a lot of their stuff is bs or there's an agenda behind it but I'm looking forward to your book and will likely grab myself a copy. You're not here for the bs just dedication, consistency and hard work which I respect. All the best 👍
Hey it's really great to hear from you! Thanks for all the encouragement, I really appreciate you being here even when my videos were much worse haha. And thank you about the book too, I cannot wait to share it! Really great to hear you've started working with sandbags too, good luck with the gains!!
I stumbled across your page yesterday, Your goals are obviously targeting functional strength. I have never had a gym membership, growing up on the Navajo Nation there's plenty to do. Carrying buckets of water, stack hay bales, lots of digging, carrying loads of firewood, the list goes on. Not to different from farm/ranch lifestyle. Overnight hike/camp( rucking) just for recreation.
Im so excited to buy your book. I sincerely hope its a great success. Your raw, modest and pure approach to strength and training is inspirational. I look forward to getting back to room in camp to pick my bag up everyday now. Thanks Stone Circle. Best random find ive come across on youtube to date.
I'm just starting out, this is what I have been doing for the last month (daily or alternate days depending on my shifts) Set a timer for 1 min, get the bag to the bear hug position, and walk. (I use a LeBell grip) Once done set a new timer for 15 min. From floor to shoulder as many times as possible in 15 min.(I only have a 60kg bag I manage 10 rounds of 6 reps) Then push ups (I do 200 reps) Then set a timer for 1 min and prefore the bearhug carry again Done in 30 min and get on with your day
Thanks for all your videos, because of you I really got into sandbag training. last summer I first started with a 75 kg (165 lbs) sandbag, but that one was actually too heavy for me to learn the basics - bought a 50 kg (110 lbs) to get into proper technique and since then working with the 75 kg one felt way better; I'm managing shoulder carries with that one, something I couldn't imagine doing when i started out. I even bought a 100 kg (220 lbs) last month, bearhug carries are doable after a proper warm up and after getting into the right mind set, but shouldering it is not quite possible That's another great thing about working out in general: always something to look forward to! :D Just like your book, cant wait!
Hey that's so awesome!! Shoulder carries with 75kg are no joke, that weight feels heavy QUICK! Congrats on working with that 100kg too, that's definitely well into the territory of 'never stops being difficult' haha. Thanks for your support!!
My heavy sandbag journey started today, just filled my first sandbag (Cerberus tie-top 40-70kg) with my starting weight (40kg). I can confidently shoulder it with decent technique a couple of times, and it's heavy enough that I can feel bearhug carries are going to get really tough after much more than 60 seconds. With practicing technique alone I've moved up from being completely threatened by 30kg, to knowing 40kg is possible and damn that feels great. I literally does feel like I've just started a real life side quest! My plan is to essentially copy what Cody is doing, following the Stone Circle book and advice here on RUclips. I've become absolutely set on seeing exactly what heavy sandbags and bodyweight calisthenics alone can do, because it draws me in like standard weight training never did. I recorded my first proper sangbag shoulder attempt on video, so I'll carry on in that vein, partly for my records and partly because I'd like to do a video review of the book. I feel like if I could watch anything right now to motivate me, it would be someone giving thier take on beginning heavy sandbags and calisthenics from the perspective of an absolute beginner (who only really has any fitness experience with distance running, and 6 months of smashing farmer carries with a weight vest on to pass a fitness test). I'm not strong at all, and err towards being lean and putting on muscle (as well as body fat) a lot slower than most, so it will be really clear that all progress I make is down to the method in the book. I bring so little to the table that I hope basically anyone will be able to see themselves in my initial position and know that they probably have a better head start than me. Hopefully I can add something to the Stone Circle community that will help anyone on the fence about sandbags. I honestly don't know how I ended up here all buzzed about sandbabs, but I'm so glad I did. Also, now my ADHD ass now has to actually do this, because I've just said it out loud (virtually anyway)! EDIT: 2x 60 second bear hug carries and 2x 60 second shoulder carries with 40kg kicked my ass... my muscles aren't all that tired, and it wasn't remotely taxing on my cardiovascular system. Yet the overall level of fatigue I feel is quite literally on par with a 7+ mile run, which is completely insane considering I spent under 10 minutes actually working with a sandbag once I'd warmed up. It's really interesting hearing all of the things people say about sandbag training, and working out first hand that none of it it hyperbole... the nausea alone from bearhug carries was something else, which I quickly worked out was holding the sandbag in the wrong position.
This is so great!! I'm seriously so pumped for you right now, the gains are going to be incredible keep me updated!! I'll go sub just in case you decide to post something sometime :)
I worked for 5 at a mill, the poses you are showing are exactly those we used. We tryd to lift 2x 50kg at the same time ore 3x 25kg just fore fun 😊. The owner was 72 back then this was at the turn of the millennium he out lifted us youngsters 😅.
That true 'old man' strength! 3 at once sounds so tough haha, we used to do this with bags of dog food that needed moved up to the second floor at one of my first jobs (I was tiny at that point and always lost haha)
Damn, looking huge man! Looking forward to the day i can afford a sandbag haha, i started my first bulk yesterday. I recommended your channel to all my friends.
I recently started sandbag training by getting a 45kg punching bag that a family member wasn't using, something i like to do on top of the things you mentioned is to hold it with the bearhug and then toss it to the side by rotating my torso. Movements like this are kind of fun and it trains my obliques more in comparison to some of the other exercises.
Managed 200 ft with a 220 bag in Sunday, with probably one more lap in the tank. Two weeks out from strongman provincials, I'm gonna win that max distance carry or black out trying. 😅 💪
Would you ever try something like grappling and post it to see the kind of difference sandbag training offers. Great channel btw you’ve made me fall in love with sandbags
@@thestonecircletheyre actually really tough. It wasnt until this past weekend that i finally had to repackage mine cause it finally sprung a leak. And i drop that thing from shoulder height all the time.
This is perfect. I just got my first sandbag just a few days ago. It's only 50kgs (110lbs), and I'm kinda shocked at how weak I am. I thought my base level fitness was alright, considering I've got a physical job. Anyway, because of time, location, and money restraints, I'm doing all my exercise at home, and I hope to have sandbags as the core of my training.
They always feel heavier than it seems like they should haha. Hope you're liking it so far! You'll be throwing that 50kg bag around like nothing in no time :)
I started with a 100 lb bag april 2023. I bought a 150 at the same time...couldn't even lift it after i filled it...haha! Now am doing bearhug carries with the 150...to the shoulder with a 125 and floor to chest with 175. Hoping for 200 by December. Don't be shy about wearing a good lifting belt...have fun.
I found your channel a couple of weeks ago and it is top-notch! I do a lot of movement patterns with steel clubs. Your videos have been so inspiring I have ordered and received the 100lb Ironmind sandbag with the liners today. Any pointers on the best way to tie the bag off when I fill it up? Thanks for all of your instruction in the videos. I like thousands of others can't wait for your book to be released. Take care.
Hey thank you so much! The book is so close now I cannot wait to share it :) That's so awesome you're getting into sandbags too! My best tip is to use both liners, I didn't do that the first time and it didn't stay packed as well, using both helps a lot. Once you have the liners zip tied down, I've just been twisting the outer bag as much as I can and wrapping the strap around it a few times. Someone commented once that they got some bungee cord from the hardware store and added it to the top and it's held really well!
What a great tutorial! 👍💪 Also, I really like that you put time into checking the hardcopies of your book. Don't worry about the whole publishing process taking longer than expected! I believe most of your followers (or at least the hard core) are natural lifters like myself, and I also believe natural lifters don't tend to be particularly impatient. Rather, they are used to the fact that great results take time. If I had to contribute anything in terms of advice for beginners myself, it would be: Lift sandbags as often as you feel up to it, but once a week do one "round-up training". Flex all your muscles and check which ones don't feel significantly sore yet. This will vary from person to person depending on your style and specific techniques. Then train whichever muscles feel like they can do with some extra work and let all the others recover.
Thank you! I hope you're right, maybe I'm just not used to waiting on others, but it feels like every day it's not out yet is a day I'm letting people down. Hope to hear back from those guys today about some final revisions I sent back, fingers crossed! Also that's a really interesting idea about the 'round-up training' I like that! I bet that would make a cool video too if you ever wanted to, I'd definitely watch it :)
Doing sandbags for few months lately on and off due to exams. When I started couldn't even lift the 60kg sandbag now I can. Wil now start your program sandbags hypnotherapy and yes I just bought your book!!!!
Just got my first sand bag. I put 45kg in a 56kg bag, so it's a little floppy. It didn't feel too heavy to shoulder, but I'm taking it slow . I'm not a young man anymore and I'm out of shape. Looking forward to this though. Thanks for the inspiration from Denmark
Ive only done about 2 months of sandbag training so far and its crazy how fast my strength is increasing. Started with a 135lb, now at 200lb and my next goal is a 250lb bag that i still need to weigh. One of the craziest things is how good my lower back feels after doing all this, I used to have horrible lower back pain and now it feels so stable due to the extra muscle.
@Magic_Toaster that's so awesome!! You really do get so much stronger quick. My low back has felt great with the sandbags too, really glad it's been working for you!
Glad you recommended this, it reminded me of when i worked at a feed store ans every single freaking bag weighted 50 pounds and i had to do pretty much those same movements for those bags. Lol. It was a tough as shit job but i was definitely strong as an ox. Now i know what weight to use at least for now.
@christopherwhitley9923 hey glad you liked it!! I feel that haha, back when I was still only weighing like 120 max I would have to carry these bags of dog food up 2 flights of stairs, it absolutely owned me haha 😁
I feel ya man. Stairs plus weight is crazy on ya but thats also what prepared you for those heavy carry's! I got a 80 pounder because i used to enjoy moving quick crete at home depot. It always made me feel strong. We shall see!
Hey, man. Just wanted to let you know I bought the IrondMind sandbag that you have posted in the description. Planning on starting my routine sometime thise week. Thanks for the inspiration, bro!
Hey I hope you like it!! The ironmind is so great, very durable and the shape isn't quite as wide as some of the others which makes it more manageable to lift imo!
@@thestonecircle It's got a nice feel, so for. I filled half the bag with about 70-80 pounds of sand and the other half with a trash bag full of clothes I'm not using.
Smallest size i saw when i first heard about sandbags was 50kg, so as a complete newbie to any sort of exercise I went straight in. Was surprised I could get it so my shoulder within the first week. Its a glorious challenge every time.
Dude I keep loving the way you make your video’s men. Awesome. Would say that what helped me staying injury free (I guess) is also using kettlebell swings (or use your banded goodmorning) so you get conditioned in the lower back. And kettlebell windmill’s to strengthen the oblique and QL. Haven’t found a sandbag exercise to do that. Any thoughts?
Thank you!! Swings are so great, I haven't found any sandbag exercises to replicate those windmills they seem really unique to kbs, but there are a few Band exercises I really like. There's one called a 'band arm spin' that mimics the wrestling move its pretty awesome
Appreciate all you do 👍🏼 Looking forward to book release! I know it’ll be as worthy as Dinosaur Training and Rock, Iron and Steel of which I own. You could even offer signing as Brooks Kubik did🙏🏼
@@thestonecircle Yeah, just a little note inside the front cover gives a more personal feeling…something that’s missing in today’s society I’m afraid. And Brooks only did it if requested when a book was ordered 👍🏼
@carvinclark Yeah it really would add that personal touch! Think the problem is Amazon just prints most of the books in house now, so you don't end up with a spare room full of merch. Eventually I plan on setting up a website and I could probably order some books to sell that way!
Another great video. Your doing good, channel is growing. Hey you definitely putting in work. Your a solid dude. Are you still training back everyday? Crazy s,o,b
I'Im 70.3kg and work with a 100kg cerberus bag doing picks to the chest, then zercher style squats and bearhug walks. This was after starting with a challenging(for me) 70kg bag doing the same thing. At this rate, im hoping to get to a 150kg bag along with getting my BW up a few kg within the next couple years.
Working as gardener is a good way to get bag training. We prefer to get a scoop of mulch, but need to get bagged sometimes and it can get soaked with water and become super heavy. Lots of functional training opportunities in gardening. Farmer's carry, wheel barrow, weeding can carry on shoulder, squatting to pull weeds, shoveling, lots of hand strength building. I tend to feel more loosened up and physically well at the end of a long hard day of gardening than at the beginning. I like thinking about the relationship between my microbiome and the macrobiome of the soil. Mulching soil and growing plants in it provides a long-term boost to soil fertility and microbial diversity, interacting with that ecosystem tunes mine up.
Hey man I'm a gardener too and this is exactly how I feel, I also view work as incidental training, like you say squatting to pull weeds, moving heavy stuff, etc. I also agree with the microbiome bit, we are so separated from nature and live extraordinarily clean lives. It's good to get a bit dirty. (Obviously I shower everyday and wash my hands, etc) I also love the mental aspect of it, seeing my work pay off, seeing the garden flourish, observing nature, the sound of the trees, etc. I also love just sticking my headphones in and just grinding away at a job. Nobody to bother me or tell me what to do.
Another great video Cody! Can you share what weights you're throwing around now? Are you mainly using bodyweight or are you up/down 25% on that for mo' fun?! 😁
Thank you!! Before I cut down I was throwing 250 onto my shoulder like nothing and 275 was getting close. This last month or so at the very end of the cut I've been working mostly with 200 and the 150 (mostly because its been fun throwing it around haha). I think the strength is still there to shoulder 250 ive just been waiting to attempt it again until I'm back up a few pounds. I can still get it to chest height without too much trouble which is promising, considering it weighs 100lbs more than me haha
@@thestonecircle Daaaaamn that's outstanding!! OK you've set a new bar for me. It's just over 90 degrees here right now, I'm sure the heat adds another 25 pounds of stress! 🥵 Time to get the blue bag... 🤬😁
Just be careful, y'all. Sandbag training is so fun that you can definitely overtrain and wreck your immune system for a bit 😅. Just don't dive into multi-hour training sessions multiple times a week and you should be fine.
Perfect timing! Do you think a stone will work to start off with? as i don't have proper sandbag, just a boxing bag that is not very heavy, and also the shape of it is wrong, at least from looking at the sandbags you are using. And i don't really want to spend 80 bucks on a sandbag :p.
Love the vid personally I’m not sure what weight to buy I was taking buy a 200lb one then fill it up to where I can handle it since the prices of individual bags are too much to buy multiple at least that’s my experience sandbags are great strength tools though
Hey that can be a great option! I personally really like the ironmind adjustable 300lb bags, gives you a lot of room to grow and with the top knot style you don't have to worry as much about the sand moving around on you compared with a fixed weight velcro bag. The sand will still shift a bit. Could also fill the 200 with a lower weight material like top soil :)
it's like you saw me struggling and knew I needed help lol. this video is very well thought out. I'm competing in a strongman comp in September and one of the events is a heavy sandbag carry. These tips will help a lot in my prep. I've been wondering, any sandbag lifting tips for those of us with little t rex arms? Right now I just try to crush it as hard as I can to hold it in place, since I can't really get my arms around it. (Also speaking of dinosaurs, I'm not sure how you knew I just started reading dinosaur training but good instincts)
Haha yes, sandbag lifting, strongman and dinosaur training?? This was definitely meant for you :D I've found that squeezing crush strength develops pretty quickly if you keep at it. I really had to start getting better at it when I started working with sandbags I also couldn't wrap my arms all the way around. It took a couple weeks but the strength caught up quick!
You can get by with a couple 50lb jumps at first once you've passed that inital stage, but once you hit 175-200 jumps of 20-25 seem to work a lot better!
I'm super interested in the uncoventinal weights such as sandbags, kettlebells, maces, hammers, etc... However, at the same time I don't want to let go of the dumbbells and barbells, so my question is this: how can I implement a sandbag routine into my BB and DB workout?
I think you'll like it! I go over that near the end of the video. I also made a video a while back on the topic that might help too! ruclips.net/video/3QqVJxX1shE/видео.html
Great video as always. But one thing that always impresses me in your sandbag lifts is your bulging eyes! xD what an effort.. but that made me search about the effects of heavy lifting in eye pressure and I discovered that it may carry a significant risk of glaucoma and eyesight lost, and the known studies are about regular lifting.. I really think that sandbag lifting is a near perfect exercise, but as its the advantages mainly come from the generated pressure in the body I´m a bit concerned about the medium/long term consequences of chronically high vascular pressure it induces on the body... again I think that balance and body sensitivity is the key to equilibrium and health.
Hey thank you! Yeah I definitely get the crazy eyes haha. That's an interesting point I hadn't thought of, I've never heard of long term powerlifters or other strength sport guys having trouble with eyesight but maybe they just don't talk about it
New subscriber here and loving the content . I am thinking of starting sand bag training. One question : what shape of sandbag is best? I have seen rounder sanbags or longer sandbags like the one you show in your video. Thanks and keep up the good content
Hey really glad to have you here! Most of them start out round and get longer as they get heavier, but the ironmind sandbag is a bit skinnier than the other brands. I like both but definitely prefer the slightly longer sandbag because I feel like I'm better able to wrap my arms around it
Was thinking to start with a 45 kg bag(the ones I am looking at start at 20, 30 and then 45 for some reason. But I probably best start with 30 so I don't wreck something. Got a 25 kg boxing bag that can help fill the gap if it's too heavy. 62 kg bodyweight
Hey awesome to hear you're planning on getting started with it! If you can get that 25kg down for some good volume and master the basic techniques I don't think 45kg should be too much! Another option could be to get an old canvas bag from a thrift store and line it with trash bags and fill it up to 30 or whatever it will fit, cheap way to make that jump from 25 to 45 less extreme
I found the 20 kg sand bags that the sand came in to be cumbersome enough. And they humbled me really well; remembered I have a big strength weakness in the lift off position 😂 So a low weight bag and valsalva maneuver is a perfect recommendation to start off with 💪😊
I have a full book on that coming out in the next month! :) I did talk a bit about it in my recent 2 year daily back training update vid, but it's def not a comprehensive list. I'll have a video coming out alongside that book too
I haven't gotten my hands on a sandbag yet. But I do have a 44lb medball. I also have three punching bags: a 40lb, 70lb, and 100lb. I'm wondering how applicable these would be for this kind of modality.
I think those things would be a great way to start! You could build up a lot of strength that way and learn the basics, then move onto a heavier sandbag when you're ready
@@thestonecirclejust finished the video. I paused because I was in the middle of a weighted calisthenics workout. 💪🏻😎 Thanks for the reply. My 100lb bag is pretty dang heavy, so it'll be some good work for me. 150's unfathomable (I'm only 135!). I've been devouring your content! Thanks, keep it up, and congrats on the book!

@@basslinger Best Seller, baby!! 😎💪
I love how this is proof gym's are not necessary to get ripped in fact, this is a realistic and actually functional strong body, I devour your videos ever since I found your channel!
Hey so glad you're liking the videos!! Sandbags and calisthenics, it's hard to beat that combo, no gym needed!
@Thedrizzle1000 I know that exact feeling haha, even an extra 20 lbs is so much heavier! Really impressive to manage 150 right from the start!!
Ive been implementing sandbag training for a few years now and what I absolutely love is how it bulletproofs your lowerback. I'm in the military and while other people complain about their backs all the time, I'm always fresh after a ruck, training event, etc.
Good to hear, I'm just starting because I want to bulletproof my back as well.
That's so awesome man, this stuff really works!!

Heck yeah! It's nice when you already have the thing haha. Glad to hear it's working for you!!
HECK YEAH!! So pumped for you to be getting into sandbags, the gains are about to begin :)
Heck yeah!! That's one badass training program, good luck with it! And I really appreciate that with the book thank you :)
He said the video will be there and here it is. Thanks !

75kg already that's awesome man!! Can't wait to hear about the gains, your back is already crazy enough!
My friend and I are starting sandbag training after watching ur vids. Thanks for opening my eyes to this type of training :)
That's so awesome good luck!!
Stumbled upon your channel randomly 2 weeks ago, never heard of sandbag lifting before. Binged all your videos to get up to date. Ordered 3 different size bags, getting them filled this week :) thanks and subbed 👍
AWESOME good luck with the sandbags you're gonna love it!! Glad to have you here :)
Gotta say, this is the best breakdown of sandbag training so far. Love all the content, keep it coming, and can't wait for the book.
Finally, got around to putting my 100# sandbag together this weekend and, it is by far my new favorite tool.
Hey thanks so much! Really glad to hear you're liking the sandbag, it's hard to go back once you start haha
Rest
Fuckin chefs kiss
Hey thank you! I think the sandbag/bodybuilding combination is awesome and I'm glad others do too :) That sounds like a badass setup! Hard to beat 531 for long term progress, awesome idea combining it with sandbags

Thank you!! Just went through the entire thing one last time and It's looking so good!
woohoo !!! 🥳🎉🎉🎉
Good news is, once you’ve done it the first time, you know all the things you need to do for the next book ;)
Cheering for ya!
Oh, and if you ever put up a patreon or ko-fi - you’ve got my pledge!
@Y4r0k yes exactly! Definitely has to be another one eventually, just gotta keep trying to improve until then 🙂 and thank you I really appreciate that!
Perfect timing! I've been watchting your videos the last few days, eager to bring my sandbag lifting to a new level
Hey awesome I hope this helps!!
Hey glad to have you here! Sounds like you probably have that farmer strength, that's awesome there's nothing like it!
Im so excited to buy your book. I sincerely hope its a great success. Your raw, modest and pure approach to strength and training is inspirational. I look forward to getting back to room in camp to pick my bag up everyday now. Thanks Stone Circle. Best random find ive come across on youtube to date.
Hey I appreciate it so much thank you! Good luck with your sandbag work!!
@@thestonecircleYou have a book? Is there a link?
@@dysonsphere hey its gonna be released by the end of the week! I'll have a big video release for it 🙂
I'm just starting out, this is what I have been doing for the last month (daily or alternate days depending on my shifts)
Set a timer for 1 min, get the bag to the bear hug position, and walk. (I use a LeBell grip)
Once done set a new timer for 15 min. From floor to shoulder as many times as possible in 15 min.(I only have a 60kg bag I manage 10 rounds of 6 reps)
Then push ups (I do 200 reps)
Then set a timer for 1 min and prefore the bearhug carry again
Done in 30 min and get on with your day
Sounds great!
I even bought a 100 kg (220 lbs) last month, bearhug carries are doable after a proper warm up and after getting into the right mind set, but shouldering it is not quite possible
That's another great thing about working out in general: always something to look forward to! :D Just like your book, cant wait!
Hey that's so awesome!! Shoulder carries with 75kg are no joke, that weight feels heavy QUICK! Congrats on working with that 100kg too, that's definitely well into the territory of 'never stops being difficult' haha. Thanks for your support!!
love the content man and I reference it all the time before workouts!
Hey thanks for being here I'm really glad you're finding these vids useful!
Bought a 45kg sandbag because of your channel. Love this stuff, excellent work my man 👍👍👍
Heck yeah hope it's going well!!
I'm in line for that book! Thanks for all of your time and work, really appreciate it, got my first sandbag in the mail, be here Friday, Thanks!
Hey seriously thank you for the support!! Can't wait for you to try the sandbag lifting!
Great video , I'm loving the sandbag , I finally found a fun functional whole body exercise that I like and enjoy !
Thank you!! I feel the exact same way about it. Finally a fun way to train that also consistently makes you bigger and stronger
Lifting to my chest is “easy” but getting it to my shoulder is exhausting! I stand up and feel like I want to puke. I love it

Damn, looking huge man!
Looking forward to the day i can afford a sandbag haha, i started my first bulk yesterday.
I recommended your channel to all my friends.
Hey thanks so much, good luck on the bulk!!
Hey that's awesome! That exercise sounds really cool too
Managed 200 ft with a 220 bag in Sunday, with probably one more lap in the tank. Two weeks out from strongman provincials, I'm gonna win that max distance carry or black out trying. 😅 💪
Hell yes good luck with the comp!!

The book is so close now I cannot wait to share it :)
That's so awesome you're getting into sandbags too!
@@thestonecircle Wow that's really helpful information thanks very much! I really appreciate your time. 🙏🏾

Thanks man!
What a great tutorial! 👍💪
Also, I really like that you put time into checking the hardcopies of your book.
Oooh you’re good, the 100lbs bag came in today! Will probably get an opportunity to fill it sometime next week! Surprised by how small it is!
Heck yeah man can't wait to hear how you like it! Yeah the hundred pounders are almost like atlas stones!

@@RandomGuythe1st that's awesome time to make some gains!
Smallest size i saw when i first heard about sandbags was 50kg, so as a complete newbie to any sort of exercise I went straight in. Was surprised I could get it so my shoulder within the first week. Its a glorious challenge every time.
That's super impressive!! Keep it up 💪💪
Dude I keep loving the way you make your video’s men.
I like to walk in a deep squat, like a deep crouch walk, to get used to balancing weight in that position... Fixed some knee pain I used to have
while holding the sandbag? That sounds tough!
On my way back from Spain and I can't wait to be reunited with my Sand bags 😢😢😢
Heck yeah hope it was a good trip!
Can’t wait for the book dude 💀
@TheDogman-k928 thank you I can't wait to share it!!
Appreciate all you do 👍🏼 Looking forward to book release! I know it’ll be as worthy as Dinosaur Training and Rock, Iron and Steel of which I own. You could even offer signing as Brooks Kubik did🙏🏼
Hey thank you!! I can only hope it will live up to those legendary books :) and that's not a bad idea at all I'll have to look into it!
@@thestonecircle Gotcha…makes sense 👍🏼
Another great video. Your doing good, channel is growing. Hey you definitely putting in work. Your a solid dude. Are you still training back everyday? Crazy s,o,b
Hey thanks man! Definitely been grinding away :) and yeah still doing back everyday haha
Hey that's what's up hell yeah!!
what is that longsleeve white shirt you wear in your videos and where did you get it? looks awesome, like a medieval tunic
This is the one! www.medievalcollectibles.com/product/jonathan-shirt/
@@thestonecircle thanks bro! you've inspired me to work harder, especially on my back training, keep up the good work!
@user-mq1mu2wl1x heck yeah thank you good luck with the training!
Good stuff!
Hey thank you!
Yeah there's nothing like coming in direct contact with the earth, seriously missing from most peoples lives these days.
(Obviously I shower everyday and wash my hands, etc)
I also love the mental aspect of it, seeing my work pay off, seeing the garden flourish, observing nature, the sound of the trees, etc. I also love just sticking my headphones in and just grinding away at a job. Nobody to bother me or tell me what to do.
@@feldgraufox4927 Ya dude, good stuff. Be well :)
Superb.
Thank you!
Guess I am starting with a 150lb sandbag because I can deadlift over 4 plates 💪🏻
I can't wait til I can open it on Christmas.
HECK YEAH can't wait for you to try this stuff!!
@thestonecircle I'm going to wear my linen tunic and pants that I wear to renfaire when I use it haha
@noway5266 Man it's the freakin best! Haha. I'm a huge fan of these 'rus' style pants with leg wraps, so easy to move!
Haha definitley been there :D
Perfect timing! Do you think a stone will work to start off with? as i don't have proper sandbag, just a boxing bag that is not very heavy, and also the shape of it is wrong, at least from looking at the sandbags you are using. And i don't really want to spend 80 bucks on a sandbag :p.
For sure stones work perfect!
Let's say we outgrow the initial sandbag, how much more will the new sandbag weigh? I'm guessing it's like 50 lbs
And they humbled me really well; remembered I have a big strength weakness in the lift off position 😂 So a low weight bag and valsalva maneuver is a perfect recommendation to start off with 💪😊
Do you have a workout program to buy anywhere? Or a comprehensive list of what you do every week for training?
I have a full book on that coming out in the next month! :) I did talk a bit about it in my recent 2 year daily back training update vid, but it's def not a comprehensive list. I'll have a video coming out alongside that book too
Man have ever try sandbag get ups?If you don't give it a try and see how it feels 💪
I've tried a few times and I definitely have some work to do haha, so tough!
Thanks for the reply. My 100lb bag is pretty dang heavy, so it'll be some good work for me. 150's unfathomable (I'm only 135!).
I've been devouring your content! Thanks, keep it up, and congrats on the book!
@@stormrhode2330heck yeah hope the calisthenics workout went well!! Yeah 100 really does feel so much heavier than it should haha. Thank you! 🙂
sorry for the desturb, but i would like to ask you an advice. I just have a dip station/pull up bar and sone db. my goal is not to have big muscle, but just to be toned. I have created this routine for the upper . Day 1 150 Push ups in less time as possibile (I’going to have difficult variation, more reps in less time/ Abs 5 minutes AMRAP/ reverse flyes 3x10. DAY 2: 3 set of Wall handstand push ups/ 3 set of weighted pull ups/ 4 set of australian pull ups to failure + pull ups drop set. Some abs at the and. 1 rest day beetween day 1 and day 2. Thanks in advice
Hey I think that looks pretty good. I like your focus on counterbalancing all the pushups with the rear delt work.
@@thestonecircle yeah, i noticed that skipping the rear delt my posture was getting worst. Still thanks a lot
