My son noticed this with his baby who has bilateral peri-sylvian polymicrogyria. He took a video right away. Because of the PMG, they were already scheduled for an appt with the pediatric neurologist a few days later for regular follow-up. Still, my son took him to the E.R. right away, even though the IS had stopped. The E.R. doc saw the video, but didn't recognize what it was, said it was probably not of concern. When they went to the pediatric neurologist a couple days later, the doc was able to immediately do the Dx, even though there were no signs at the time of the appt., so we are thankful our son took the video. ACTH, has shunt for hydrocephalus, IS not visible, but EEG showed presence, so on to Vigabatrin. We are hopeful. We know that our grandson's prognosis is not the best, but he is a delight to us and we will do whatever we can to make his life the best we can. He goes to Beaumont in Royal Oak, so you probably know his neurosurgeon. :)
Our youngest has epilepsy...after getting serious help we knew he has the West - syndrome because he has another sickness...so beside the west-syndrome he has neurofybromatose type 1 (nf1)... Thank you for saying this to the world
Are the two linked. I'm just looking today... my baby did these fuss startle moves repetedly and recently I was googling his pigment marks and nf1 came up...
I have epilepsy and my daughter had west syndrome, I thought nothing of it for 4 weeks and 1 day I realised it was serious, later that day she started having multiple spasms so luckily I was already at the hospital. Vigabatrin worked well but she now has a development delay and autism.
My daughter was diagnosed with IS at 9 months age. We don't really know when does it started but probably around 4-5 months age. It was rare as she would get this only after waking up from a deep sleep so we would just ignore it as if she is just getting out of deep sleep. We are still worried because we think we have delayed the treatment for 4-5 months. She has global developmental delays. We started with prednisolone for a month and then tapered off next month, the spasms were reduced in frequency and severity but didn't stop completely. Now we have started vigabatrin initially on 500mg but she was still getting episodes of spasms, now on 750mg and I still noticed it. Don't know what to do next.
Same, also tried keto diet and it didn't work for us. Lamotrigine has helped with development but not stopped the seizures. Now trying Clonazepam which seems to be helping how often the clusters appears and softening them
Can transcutaneous VNS be helpful for infants with infantile spasms? Not as an alternative to meds, but adjunctively if the meds are not fully-effective?
You are absolutely right doctor, my daughter was first diagonised with Infantile spasms and we avoided ACTH due to side effects and was not guided correctly in the earlier days, ( ACTH later didn't help) today she still suffers from epileptic seizures, however viganext is now given to her. Her Seizures were very severe due to hormonal changes, now in control as with age also seizure frequency reduces to a great extent. I must say now we are lucky to have you and many more sources for awareness which can help us to discuss it further with our neurologist. Thank you doctor

My baby is 3 months old and I have noticed her trying to sit up. She’ll arch her back and pick up her legs, with a little grunt sound, but I haven’t noticed her eyes or arms go up. I check her to make sure she doesn’t have any gases or needs to be burped. Im a first time mom and everything worries me 😅 I just do think it’s weird that it looks like she’s trying to sit up or is crunching up her body. Should I have her get checked? I’ve been reading so much about this and I’m worried 😢
