I feel like MarkMcKz would do pretty well on this challenge, given how many obscure and forgotten cards he uses for his OTKs. Any chance we could see him one day?
Rarran, there is a old developers joke on the attack sound of Doomsayer. His entry line is "the end is coming", then he get killed, or destroyed he says "i knew it" but of you silence him, and after that give him attack somehow, you can actually hear his attackline which is: "did i missed it? " i found its super cool, and dont know how popular it is
@@nudnud9 That's the difference between the 3 lines HS card text vs College textbook Yugioh card text xD, Although idk cuz Players still don't get what Pot of Greed does so Yeah, fair point xD
Nice to see another one entry on this series! I will echo the sentiment of someone in the last video saying that maybe you should move the sound/art challenges around in the video so theres some build up to them rather than trumping the "contestants" at the very start.
These "special" videos give a great inside how these guys develope the game. Also it has so much potential for other special "do you know hearthstone" videos. If you get other develepors, you can do a video for artwork only, maybe effects (balancing) or even, if they have special sub teams for the heroes, for one specific hero. Keep up the great work.
12:28 if due to the card effect you draw several cards, there would be a difference between "After" and "Whenever". One short example for the following situation: Mage has a full hand. He then plays Archmage Arugal and Arcane Intellect to draw two cards from the deck (8 cards in hand at the moment spell is casted). Let's assume that the top card is a minion and the second card is a spell. 1. If wording is "Whenever" - player gets a minion, Arugal's effect triggers right away, which adds a second copy of the minion to Mage's hand. Arcane Intellect effect continues, which burns the spell drawn next. 2. If wording is "After" - player draws a minion and a spell from deck, Arugal's effect triggers after Arcane Intellect's effect, however, extra copy of the minion is not added to Mage's hand since the hand is too full.. Of course this situation is purely theoretical since no one ever played Arugal lol
Don't know what access you have to those people but would absolutely love a sounds-only episode with an audio engineer/designer and an art-only episode with an artist/art director. Thanks for the high quality, fun content, Rarran :)
I can't tell if the cards were easier to get this episode or Gallon was just that good and quick that it made it seem like "duh, no shit these aren't real"
@@qsns_ To be fair, I got that one too. Firstly because it seemed like a cool card at the time so I tried to make it work but also because it was +1/+2, which they never do, unless the original was +2/+2 and they nerfed it or it's a very recent card.
@@TheMasterpiecePD If it were +1/+2, it might actually have been playable. I had a deck with Arena Fanatic for a while, and it felt like with a few buffs it might have worked.
20:41 You can see Rarran deep in thought, thinking about how he's going to use developer insight to mess up other people on card descriptions in the future.
I look forward to these so much now, you're gonna be stuck with this series until youtube dies or you become a developer and one of us can put you on an episode of your own show. Keep up the great videos Rarran!
Hey, Unsettled Spirit. That's the card that I made on Hearthcards. I know the bottom line is clipping through the stats. At first I wanted to make it "revive this", but release just sounded better.
Next Dev you have on you should use spammy arcanist and defile next time and switch the period and comma which changes the interaction with the bubble elemental
It's great to see Gallon again. We don't get to see him much these days. Also has Ridiculous Hat been on yet? I bet he would be insanely good at this too!
Alpharad has conditioned me so hard to immediately expect an ad whenever Dating Start! Plays (like at 21:17) So much so that it shocks me when it isn’t an ad when I hear that song in the background lol
2:10 Fun fact, Okani is a Ankoan, which are a sub-species of the Jinyus (super evolved murlocs from Pandaria). So, if anything, he should have the murloc tag. In fact, they are mortal enemies to the naga, so saying he is one is kinda rude I guess.

Having the developers on has been a huge boon to me as I gain insight into how they think about the cards. Thanks for this fun series that has strayed into the informative
I remember playing Archmage Arugal, and when I drew a minion, the copy would appear before I drew the card. That's how I remembered it was "whenever", and not "after"
It's super fascinating to hear about how the wording is chosen for cards. I think it's really smart, hearing some of the explanations, that I wouldn't have thought about before.
I love these videos Rarran, they actually brought me back to HS after a LONG break! Though I do think you should explain the rules of each section when they are about to play or show a visual rule with words and icons (which you already half-doing it) for 5 seconds because your 1 minute introduction really bumpy and hard to understand clearly anyway (like Hacker told you in your other video.) Keep up with the good work!
I only played Hearthstone for a year or so after it was released but this is still fun and interesting. Even more so: THIS episode was VERY interesting. Getting into the mind of a developer and how they think about cards was just fascinating. While I no longer play Hearthstone, this is the kind of content that I would absolutely love to see for the games I currently play.
The dev episodes are awesome. Not to take anything away from the pros or other content creators. It's very interesting to see how they approach this differently. Maybe it also inspires the custom card community to get better too
That was a very good point about consistency. If they value consistency over everything, that means that some new cards will require prior game knowledge to fully understand. Prioritizing specific card clarity instead makes each card more readable. Wow, I won’t shit on them for consistency anymore I guess lol that was really eye opening
He definitely knows Hearthstone! I think nobody got so many correct answers and as quickly as him! Also, it was great hearing about the design philosophy
12:50 - So I guess if you drew Flame Leviathan and killed Arugal with its effect, you'd still get a second copy of Flame Leviathan in your hand? That's really cool.
With Arugal given the explanation Gallon gave if you had arugal in flame and drew Flame Leviathan then with whenever you'd get 2 flame leviathans but with your wording you only get 1 flame leviathan which would be tragic
Would love to see disguised toast guess the current meta similar to the video with Reynard. Bet it would be hard to get him but would be really great to see! Love the content
My guess for anyfin can happen is that maybe this was before they realized 'fill your board' was a more clear way to describe the effect, rather than thinking it was too vague.
Me: casually watching the video. Also Me: Jamming out to the "You are legally a bird" track from A Hat in Time playing in the background. Specifically I believe the version used is one played when you customize your Bird ID (your profile picture) and not the one used before you customize it, as I believe that one has a bit more percussion and is generally fuller. Near the end Rarran did play another A Hat in Time track, I don't know the name of it although I do know where you are in the game when it is played. It is played near the end of Dead Bird Studios (day) when you reach the last platform, and DJ Grooves comes and tears up your legal fines bill. It is also the track that plays before "You are now legally a bird". Also these Devs really know there stuff really entertaining and interesting to learn the thought process behind the text formatting and even learning a bit about what kinds of things can dictate rarity.
Very interesting to hear Gallons though process about how cards work. I think if you had a leaderboard Gallon would stand out far above the rest on first place.
14:53 now it matters has we had that card that "deathrattle summon 2/2's with rush for each unused mana crystals." or whatever that wording on the card is has it shows how bad that kind of effect is that they even let it not influence other cards even if it made it better (maybe if it saw more play they might have changed it?)
Also, the Mage Legendary probably says "whenever" instead of "after" so that it plays around Shenanigans, which no one ever plays anyway but is one solid reason it's got the "whenever" trigger, I would have to test it out but I think it probably triggers before the Bananaing
@@badwulff oops. I actually have no idea when Shenanigans came out because I've seen it exactly as many times as I've seen that Mage Legendary in play since I started playing Wild - exactly once
