After days of hard work and months of no logo histories on Finnish companies, I present to you, Yle TV1 Logo History, a television network from Finland (one of my favorite countries of all time). Special thanks to FinnTapes for the Yle TV1 playlist, in which most captures from that playlist are shown in this video! Thumbnail inspired by TR3X PR0DÚCTÍ0NS!

Yle TV1 is a Finnish television channel owned and operated by Finnish public broadcaster Yle. It is the first and oldest television channel in Finland and was founded on 1 January 1958 as Suomen Televisio. It changed its name to TV-ohjelma 1 in 1965 and then changed it again to what they are currently known as, YLE TV1, in 1972.
My next logo history will be on YLE TV2.

Excellent logo history of YLE TV1, Jonty! And this is the first time since Finnkino that you do an logo history of an Finnish company! Finland is such an interesting country! And their logos are interesting too, especially the 6th logo, even though it reminds me of the 1982 ident from Channel Four from the UK, the colours used in the 1 logo look stunning and the animation is beautiful, but simple. The 7th ident is also good, even though it looks very trippy, the animation is still quite good for 1990s standards, but my only criticism about the ident is the music. They could have made it peaceful just like the animation, not making it overdramatic. But anyway, great ident history.

Thanks, Man! I think the 6th logo has beautiful music with great CGI for 1987! The 7th logo is also brilliant. And yes, it is kinda trippy. In fact, I put the ident in a folder from the main page of "What Do You Mean, It Wasn't Made On Drugs?" on TV Tropes. The music is also dissonant. The 7th logo has also scared people when they were kids. Still, the animation is brilliant for 1992. Stay tuned for Yle TV2 Logo History!

Also, I really like the music for the 13th logo. Peaceful little guitar thing…

I haven't seen anyone explain the overlapping dates, so I'll try.
Until 2000, YLE (on both TV1 and later, since 1965, TV2) had two sets of idents: ones used for startups/closedowns (at the beginning and end of a day of broadcasting, respectively), and another set, used mainly at the beginning and end of MTV blocks (until 1993, MTV, despite being their own network, did not have their own channels and used the one/two YLE frequencies, broadcasting their programs as a block), but also occasionally between programs and to fill gaps in schedule. I'll just call them the "long" and "short" idents here respectively for brevity, but know that they had different purposes.
Starting in 1993 (after MTV got its own channel MTV3 and stopped broadcasting on TV1 and TV2), the "short" idents still stuck around and were used now more often between programs and the like. After 24-hour broadcasting became a thing in 2000, the idea of separate long idents was retired, and after that the short idents were used (for separating the programs from whatever was aired during the off hours, usually news or, later, a SMS-based quiz show), if the ident theme didn't come with its own startup or closedown idents, as later ones usually did (13:43 is an example for a closedown: "Hyvää yötä" = "Good night", 13:57 for a startup: "Huomenta" = "(Good) morning").
There are no ad bumpers, since YLE does not show ads (except for some rare instances such as for some sports broadcasts in the 90's; for those cases they used custom bumpers depending on what was being shown).
    Short idents until 2000: 5, 6
    Long idents until 2000: 1, 2, (3,) 4, 7
    Comments for those logos:
    (1) Long. Used 1.1.1958 - 28.2.1965. Used before YLE got a second channel. "Suomen Televisio" literally means "Finnish Television", which was the name used initially. i believe the final variation is a closedown version rather than a "short" ident.
    (2) Long. Used 1.3.1965 - 23.12.1965. A "temporary" card with a static image and a jingle after the rename to TV-ohjelma 1 ("program one"), since YLE merged Tesvisio into itself and renamed it TV-ohjelma 2 ("program two", launched on 7.3.1965). I don't know what the corresponding "short" idents would've been for the first two logos.
    (3) Long. These are all (never aired) prototypes of what would become (4).
    (4) Long. Used 24.12.1965 - 31.12.1991. A "long" ident that was in use for many years. In color since perhaps as early as 1969. The "Rundradion TV1" is the Swedish version, used when the day began or ended with a Swedish-language broadcast (rare on TV1, but more common on TV2). The first "short" idents used were random photos with the Yleisradio TV-ohjelma 1/2 (from (2)) overlaid on top of them (no audio). These would inspire...
    (5) Short. Used ?.?.1972 - 30?.8?.1987. Has a jingle taken from (4). A random photo (changing at least daily), usually of nature, with a TV1 logo overlaid somewhere on it. If used when stalling for time (i.e. to fill gaps in schedule), the jingle would only be played at the end (but the photo could have stayed on for longer). TV2 was the same but with a different logo and jingle.
    (6) Short. Used 31?.8?.1987 - 31.12.1992. Introduced at the same time as new branding on TV2. The 5:25 version is an early prototype used in 1987 which was replaced with the one in 5:36 by early 1988. 5:47 is a news intro (I don't think that version of the TV1 logo was used anywhere else). 5:59 is a rare TV1/MTV switchover ident - usually YLE/MTV switchovers happened by both idents ("short" for YLE) being played one after the other. 6:06 seems to be a production logo of some kind.
    (7) Long. Used 1.1.1992 - 15??.9??.2000 (retired since 24-hour broadcasting was introduced). Initially the YLE logo faded to the TV1 logo only in the startup, while in the closedown it would simply fade out; this was changed some time in (very) early 1993, but TV2 never made this change.

      4th, 6th, 9th, 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, 15th is what a Finnish ident to be that good like MTV3 and YLETV2 unlike other countries including Japan.
7th has sound that is very scary but in a decent way.

    So, what happened between 2002-2007?
I like all the logos just fine; they all seem to capture the times really well! But the 2001-2002 logo gets followed by a 2007 logo? So, what's the explanation? I'm only curious.

    • @JontyMaster
      @JontyMaster  11 месяцев назад +1

Most of the info I got from another logo history, who also had the 2001-02 idents followed by the 2007 ident. I'm not sure what happened between 2002-07.
